Hey y'all! Duck is my Uncle and I am so greatful that this was posted. I haven't seen him in a long time. Every comment I read touches me. I never knew just how influencial he was. I know he's getting a kick out of all the attention right now. So, thanks to all. The funeral will be in Memphis. His hometown. I'm gonna make sure everyone sees this video. Peace!!
When I first started out playing bass guitar I really was inspired by Donald's playing and his style. I wanted to play just like him! R.I.P. Donald Duck Dunn.
Greet me at the gates Duck if I ever get there. You have blown speakers in every car I have ever owned for 47 years.....Duck, Steve, Booker T you make me smile every time. You are the definition of soul. We know who you are.
Just re-discovered this. Has it really been 10 Years already? Not quite, but almost. Bon voyage, bravo Zulu and thank you kindly duck. A real treat to see you carefree with the Colonel here.
A beautiful tribute to the friendship between two giant musicians - Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn. Love how Steve makes sure his buddy - who is likely not up to par - is ok every step of the way. Extremely moving without any theatrics, just pure love.
Hey Steve we will Miss Duck, I remember those nights in Memphis watching Duck play with that pipe hanging out of his mouth, he smoked it through a whole song without even adjusting it. He was such a great man and musician, those were priceless times I have tears in my eyes just writing this, we will never have that music and those times again. His music will live forever. Thanks Duck
You can see by Steve Cropper's body language the love, care and support that these men had for each other over more than 40 years. Donald "Duck" Dunn went out like a rocket!
+Dyann Espinosa Yeah, Dyann, but actually more like 60 years. Those two were riding bikes and playing ball in their neighborhood in elementary school before either got bit by the music bug. Soul men & Blues brothers!
Duck Dunn & Colonel Cropper must have played that song a million times over and even at the end, still enjoyed the hell out of it- and us too. Duck was a truly remarkable master of his craft. His pairing with Cropper was in perfect sync both rhythmically and in pure, cool soul. He's on a cloud plucking away tunes, no doubt about it.
One of the finest musicians this world has ever had. This man played with so many music legends,in my personal opinion one of the best ever Bass players in history.
This is fabulous. As tight as a gnats arse. you can hear the experience and the bond that Duck and Steve Cropper have and also the rest of the band is killer. So Great. Thank you for posting
I was a Bass player during the Flea and Claypool era and yet none of them had as big an influence on me as Duck did . Unique player and always looked like he loved it so much . Im just sorry i got to see this so late . RIP fella , loved ya work .
Music is the mother tongue of the soul......regardless of age, color, size, gender or faith. All musicians are special creatures...avatars of bliss, and inspiration....thanks to Booker T and the M G's. We miss you Donald....it seems the good ones pass on too early.!!!Your music lives on and on....(Had to go watch the Blues Bros today just to get a nice dose of love)....Thanks!
My biggest influence as a bass player had all the blue Stax stuff and loved every bottom bass note he played.Rest in piece good bass buddy.Remember you guys at The Free Trade hall in Manchester about 19 70 will never forget it.....Superb...
I used to work for Duck and Steve in the early 90's and this video was very sad to watch. He had aged so much since I knew him :( God bless June who was his rock for so long and thanks for the share.
When ever I play along to a new song, I always think in the back of my head, "Now How Would Duck Play It"? Channeling his style does seem to help my playing. Thanks Duck, RIP.
Gotta be one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen/heard and it’s mostly just hanging out on one note. That feeling is so good 🙂 seems there’s a lotta love in the building that night
Duck doesn't look too well here - if only we knew - but what a blast - he played to the last note - he was one dedicated and talented man that gave the world much pleasure - we'll miss ya Duck. The Blues will live for ever because of you Duck !
In my veins and across the winds. The creation of such inspired music continues to be enjoyed as well as inspiring more music. Longstanding showmanship!
so smooth, the flow is undeniable. These are two heavyweights past the peak of their youth. Just proves how you're born with time. You either have it or you don't.
I was thinking the same thing. I think Steve noticed it or already knew something wasn't quite up to par. A life well lived, playing music with his friends all those years, and then he slipped away in his sleep. Couldn't ask for more from him. Thanks, Cansons, for uploading this. You have shared a treasure.
My Sincerest Condolences to you, it saddens me to know that he passed away... I have always loved this song. Listening to all the stories on the net about Booker T and the MGS is amazing!!! Steve Cropper and your Uncle is truly awesome. I hope you heal your heart from his loss...
RIP Donald Duck Dunn was one of the great bass guitar players of southern soul music!! He anchored the Staxx and Atlantic Record bands. Incredible talent and I would be remiss if I didn't mention human being. True Blues Man
Always loved this arrangement. Bought a tear to my eye the way Cropper was acting toward Duck, just loving being up there with his mate. If only they knew...
I learned only today of DUCK's passing. My condolences to his beautiful wife, JUNE, his family & his lifelong friend STEVE CROPPER. He was not only a legendary and inspirational artist , he was just as importantly a MENSCH, who treated even an insignificant fan like myself graciously. CROPPER said it best when he said ..."THE WORLD LOST THE BEST GUY AND BASS PLAYER WHO EVER LIVED" R.I.P. Your legacy lives on
This is fantastic. To see two musicians with a life long connection, playing a fantastic piece of music. Would love to play like Mr Dunn and will continue practicing in that direction. Legend.
Duck and Jamerson wrote the book on 60s R&B, soul, the Fender bass, the Ampeg tubed amps, and how to hold it all down...Haa'Mercy! My two greatest influences for wanting to be a bassman, ala Memphis and Motown. Steve of course paved the road to Memphis Funk, ala Rufus for several generations of guitarists. Thank you both for all the music, the inspiration, and most of all showing the world that soul has no color, music no race, and that groove is a frame of mind to be appreciated by everyone... regardless of everything!👑🎸🎷🎺🎹🎧🎶🎤
I remember the great good old days at Audubon Golf Course with Curtis Welch and these guys. Great People an Great Players. In their heyday nobody could touch them.
James Jamerson --Funk Bros,-- and Duck Dunn were greatest bass players of all time !! Duck and Steve Cropped took "Time is Tight" to a new place there. Fantastic, thanks for fabulous upload Nancy . Rest in peace ,Duck .
Best guitar/bass duo ever! Cropper & Dunn grew up riding bikes & playing ball in their neighborhood before they got bit by the music bug, and it showed till the end. What interplay! And kudos to Lester Snell playing so much like Booker!
I love the moment around 5:40 or so. Cropper & Dunn are so tight. Like Duck said, they're like a married couple. Best friends for 60 years and the best guitar/bass combo in Soul/Blues/Rock history.
Somehow, it has taken me seven-plus years to stumble into this clip. Just. Wow. A little over 20 years ago, my first career out of college was in radio. I had the privilege of working at an awesome Oldies station and this song was one of my absolute favorites to spin, especially on a gorgeous summer Saturday night. I always envisioned someone on the other end blasting this while cruising in a mid-'60s Pontiac convertible. Thank you for posting this. Long Live the MG's!!!
I LOVE the Duck !!! I am 44 and grew up with RUSH, etc. Now, I am starting to see the beauty of Donald Duck Dunn. I guess his unflashy, solid deep grooves are more appreciated with age. As a bass player, I now study a "bass player for the month" and Duck is next month's player. I can't wait !!!! - Mike
Amazing video. I watch it over and over. The band has a great feel on this. The drummer really drives the tune well. RIP Duck Dunn. This video is a great memorial to this pioneer of the electric bass guitar!! Thank you Nancy.
This is a deadly performance! Makes you think...Play each show and live each moment as if it could be your last, because you never when the end may come for each of us. Peace.
Saw Booker T and the MG's with Eddie Floyd in Charleston WV in 2009 (coincidentally the day Michael Jackson died), and WOW they still had it. Incredible performance.
Glad Duck died with his boots on. I'm a bass player, and one of the hardest thing is to put maximum intensity into just holding it down. Providing a solid "base" for the rest of the band to build on. That was Duck Dunn. But I also have to say, based on playing guitar in a band where we covered "Sitting on the Dock of Bay". Cropper is a certified genius. A wonderful songwriter and one of the most tastefully creative guitarists who has ever lived. And you can see it here.
the bass and the percussionist flowing with the rhythm guitar feeding off each other is something to behold with keyboards adding style...those kind of progressions and what ends up on recordings is the whole deal.
Watching this video Man just makes me smile. These guys have been playing to gether 30 years plus and still going at it. And to see the 1970's footage of booker t and the Mg's playing at the Creed Water concert and how they were so intune to the music and how you could tell that the music is what moved them. For the guys to continue doing something they loved to do until the end of there time. Is a true Blessing. R.I.P DONALD DUCK DUNN. YOU ARE A LEGEND AND MY FAVORITE BASS PLAYER BROTHER.
Just got back from Memphis and a tour of the Stax Museum. Duck & Steve were the backbone for all the music I hold dear. Seeing that place, and pictures of Duck when he was this baby-face white boy and imagining what it must have been like in the day gave me goosebumps. No black & white, just players getting it done. RIP Duck
Duck Dunn played a groove that was masterful. A true innovator.. Played the bass like a rhythm guitar , & so melifluous ! The music was everything to these gentleman . All were virtuoso musicians . R.I.P. Duck Dunn

I have met Steve and Duck... and they're both great guys. Thanks, Memphis; thanks, STAX Community.
Never met Duck but he was my influence/mentor going back to 1966. Thanks, man.
Duck Dunn and Steve Cropper are icons! They did more for the music industry in more ways than just about anybody. I Can honestly say I love them both.
The world is a better place for Duck Dun and his music. His was a life well lived. Rest In Peace Duck Dunn.
Pure legends!! Forever grateful for what they brought and stood for in this music industry!!!! They broke color barriers!!!!!!
Greet me at the gates Duck if I ever get there. You have blown speakers in every car I have ever owned for 47 years.....Duck, Steve, Booker T you make me smile every time. You are the definition of soul. We know who you are.
As a bass player I miss Duck Dunn immensely. He still is a big influence in the world of bass.
Duck Dunn was one of the great rhymic bass players of all time - simple yet brilliant.
In my top 5 fav bass players.
The Duck and the Colonel are getting down! one of my favs!

What an awesome group that I have followed since thanksgiving night 1962! Love that Hammond Organ!
Duck and his guitar playing is woven into the musical fiber of so much great American music, especially the
Stax sound. R.I.P. Duck

As a bass player and a drummer who has covered this song many times I just love the groove these two lay down with it. Two masters in their craft
Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn, of the most epic duos of all time.
I was a Bass player during the Flea and Claypool era and yet none of them had as big an influence on me as Duck did . Unique player and always looked like he loved it so much . Im just sorry i got to see this so late . RIP fella , loved ya work .
