You are forgotten - Super 8 film

  • I shot this film in early 2021, just as Britain was emerging from lockdown after a huge peak in infection and death from the Covid Delta variant. It seemed to me to be a dark start to the year, so I shot and developed the film as dark and dense, without using a daylight filter and utilising a first developer composed of double-strength Orwo A71 giving the film dominant blue-green hues. It was filmed largely in and near Nunhead Cemetery and Camberwell Old Cemetery, both a short distance from my home. I held off publishing the film for quite a while as I thought it would be a little dark, but it turns out early 2022 is even more dominated by death than early 2021 - although it's a little further away geographically.
Thanks to Leaaves for extended version of the track 'You are forgotten', created specially for this film.

It sounds to me as Lonelyness... which is Covid taste. But Nature shots give it hope and sunny days coming up soon. Nice as usual!

Wonderful how real film can transport you with its soft hues and blurry edges and hand held wobbles. Love it!

Beautiful Nostalgia.. amazing work as always. I love watching these at night when everyone else in the house are asleep, it makes me feel like time is'nt existing at the moment.. just observing life.

I couldn't find myself to do anything today but watching this and other videos of yours I can, it's comforting and it doesn't feel like wasting time. Beautiful admiring shots even in this dark theme. Really beautiful.

Beautiful film and the Tungsten film shot without filter was a perfect choice for the mood of the film. Your developing techniques give a professional lab quality look to your films, even when using expired film. Truly amazing! Thanks for sharing your talent with us. I’ve been developing B&W only with mixed results, but am interested in what your modified E-6 process entails.

Thanks Dave. Basically I used a different first developer, instead of the regular Tetenal I used Orwo A71, and instead of using the pack to make 5Litres I used it to make 3Litres, so there was about 80-90g per litre sulphite in the first dev and 20g per litre of bromide, I also had about 60ml of benzotriazole 1%, 5-6g potassium thiocyanate and about 50mg of potassium iodide. I processed the first dev at 20C, for about 23-24mins if I recall correctly

@@adycousins Thanks for all the information. I used to do a lot of E-6 and E-4 still film many years ago. The E-6 was done with a Jobo processor which made it a snap as it handled precise temperature control and agitation, but that’s not an option for Super 8. Actually, you can purchase a Jobo super 8 tank that fits my old processor but it costs about $8000, so that’s not gonna happen 🙂. The Lomo would be a totally different experience with color processing.

Wow what a fantastic meditation of film. I felt almost in a constant state of forgetting while watching. A similar feeling to watching the railcar scene in Stalker by Tarkovsky. Almost like the film stretched, squished and twisted time itself.
    Well done as always Adrian.

Beautiful and inspiring work Adrian. Almost convinces me that S8 has to be hand held. “There are no tripods in the unconscious.” Discuss. Was this edited or as shot? Looks like you’re using different stock. Full of admiration. It is very like Tarkovsky. Perfectly done.

Thanks Del, I added a bit of image stabilisation and dropped some shots mainly to reduce the length, and because it was a log scan I did some basic colour correction. I never use tripods because most of my shots are just moments, they'd be long gone before I got my tripod set up
