This information reinforces the importance of well-mated queens and suggests that drone-culling as an element of integrated pest management, if performed aggressively, may be short-sighted. Drones mate nearby; queens mate at a distance. Your drones, if disease-free, improve the mating quality of your neighbor’s queens. Hopefully your neighbor’s drones are allowed to return the favor.

I think it’s amazing that insects can decipher waggle dances in the dark with no instruction especially when she says how it took her, a brilliant scientist, 6 months to decipher all those waggle dances

@@gordonspond and your point is? My point is that the bees are not only in the dark but they also don’t go to school to be taught what the dances mean, they just know. As humans only know how to eat and use the bathroom when we are born I find it amazing.

If been told that with the type of eyes bee,s have they will lose there way back to the hive in a controlled environment can you provided any information about ? I'm in Alaska and they tend to die out at the 5th month of winter confinement. Is it possible to greenhouse them ?
Brad K Kimberlin Brad, take a look at the TH-cam channel “a Canadian Beekeeper’s blog”. He overwinters his hives indoors, and he has videos that review the process thoroughly. Not a simple matter; he has control over heat, light, humidity, etc. You may get some ideas that you can implement. Good luck!
