@@WanderingMunchers actually there is another nasi kandar pushcart opposite this coffeeshop which opens in the afternoon, very good and reasonable price too! And the roti canai at the shop between Maybank and the roundabout also not bad. Apart from that, there is Nasi Kandar Kg Melayu, and the very good goreng pisang opposite Chung Ling school. :)
@@pishedbloke nasi kandar kg melayu although a lot penang folks especially from air itam rooted for them, but personally the nasi kandar doesn't go well with my taste bud la bro. Been there three times, each time I tried different lauk just to see if there's something that I might like about their nasi kandar but each time I wasn't impressed. I've passed by roy nasi kandar near air itam market but couldn't get parking. Also I've eaten at ali haniffa nasi kandar (ali air itam) inside wah meng cafe just short walk from air itam market, taste wise it was okay but portion was small and price wasn't that cheap. You can try the nasi kandar there but timing is a little tricky. They open 5:30 pm until 11am. Also you cannot see the stall from the road, you have to go inside wah meng. Usually people come for dinner and late² supper. I came at 6:30am but most lauk already finished. I think the one you refer to, across the shop is abbas nasi kandar. Haven't tried that one but already on my radar. Just a matter of getting a parking. 😁 The pisang goreng near chung Ling, I already buat video last year. My wife likes the pisang goreng but always jam la to go there in the afternoon.
I had the most delicious char koay teow opposite the Kuan Yin Temple in Penang in the 90s. It was fried by an old uncle with charcoal stove. I preferred it to be fried with charcoal stove coz it's more aromatic & flavourful compared to LPG stove.
oh I love charcoal cooked noodles! There are still CKT stalls using charcoal, I believe the Siam Road famous CKT uncle is still using charcoal and a fan!

The hawkers around the wet markets are usually a little cheaper than coffeeshops in town. And some of those stalls which won Michelin stars recently also increased their prices.
What are you doing in Glasgow bro? I went to uni there! 🤪 There was a good roast duck and Hong Kong noodle shop just outside the Garage nightclub on Sauchiehall Street, wonder if it is still there...
The spelling quite different. Instead of hitam, it's itam. I think there is good reason for that spelling. Penang char Kueh Teow really special and unique. I still prefer the siham and prawn. Fish cake is a processing food, not quite my taste for health reason.
Ya true, maybe the spelling is because they follow the Hokkien pronunciation. Also, some places use "Ayer" instead of "Air"... a bit confusing! Siham now more expensive than prawns (because of the weight of the shells), unbelievable. Sigh. But to maintain RM6 CKT I guess there are some things need to save.
What's your favourite makan place in Air Itam? Let me know! 😋😋😋
Good food at air itam area mostly not for Muslim 😭. Anyway I usually go to air itam for halal duck rice at 99 itik pipa.

For ckt with Si ham, I think the Lao Jia premium version one probably tops it haha..... Sin Ka Oon's cream puffs are really good. Nice fresh cream
love your char kway teow
Some stalls are still very affordable, with good quality

Bro, you may want to check out "Sin Ka Oon" bakery just opposite the CKT stall. Old school type. :)
I actually walked right past it, my father-in-law also told me the same thing. 😁
It is a morning market in a city.
Yes! And Air Itam itself is like a small town on Penang Island!
Damn bro...looks better than the overpriced best ckt in JB

Yes, the first plate of fried Kueh teow is not as good ☝️, btw the curry mee in front outside is anytime better than the sisters’ one 💪

my secret place of CKT
Too bad the one at the roundabout closed already

No Seeham, Kway Teow is not original one.
Many places stopped giving cockles due to the rising cost. Now cockles cost around RM20/kg in the wet market
@@pishedbloke Hawkers should at least give the option to have Seeham at an additional cost.
