I'm a 67 year old woman who never did anything like this before. I normally would have just brought it into the shop, but found your video so I decided I might as well try it on my own. Yay! I just replaced my 2003 Sienna rear door handle, thanks to this great video! Whoot whoo! Thank you!!!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I've never done anything with a car except drive it, fill it with gas, and check the oil basically, but thanks to you I replaced the handle myself and can open my trunk again! I was so bummed when the back handle broke. This mom of four greatly appreciates the use of the back door! I'm so happy! Thank you for this tutorial!
This is such a great instructional video. You explained it all so well, that it makes me wish you had someone to help you with the camera. Great job! Thank you.
I have watched many how-to videos on TH-cam for fixing all sorts of things and this one is the best! Great camera work and you explain in detail how to deal with some of the problems we might run into. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us!
My tailgate handles arrived today and I have already installed it. Had to take one more look at the video but this video made it easy. It was spot on. I don't think it took more than 10 minutes with me taking my time and stopping to play with my dog. Great video.
Thanks so much! Had a mechanic replace it a year ago ... but the plastic handle broke. I ordered a metal one this time, and your video showed how easy it was to do. Had it done in 25 minutes and I'm not mechanical at all.
Thank you so much for this video!! We just paid $1000 in vet bills this month- saw your vid and ordered the part. You kept our family out of the red this month. Appreciate it very much!
I've now had this break twice on my Sienna. The first time, the mechanic charged me for 4 hours of work because they claimed they couldn't open the gate to get at the mechanism. They told me this story where they had to fish a line in to get at the latch release. On this second time, I think I fixed it in about 40 minutes, and with a $12 part. Thanks.
Hi my hero! Just replaced my back hatch handle of my 2001 Toyota. next project are both rear sliding doors - one broken handle and the other just won't open except for the initial click. I watched your video a couple of times and went and did it! Thank you so much!
Thank you! I was going to take it to a shop but I used your video instead and finished it in about an hour and a half (including going to the auto parts store)
Thank you - - worked just fine on my 2000 Sienna. I had to whittle away a bit of the white plastic notch that's on the little metal ball, since it was too tight to clip onto the new handle, but other than that, perfect!
Excellent video. 2nd time replacing the latch. First OEM one was plastic and broke, second one lasted about a year and the pressed pin holding the spring seemed to slip loosing tension.
Thanks , Got to fix it fast. We carry my handicapped son in our van often. What a mess if had he been on board when our latch had failed. Thinking I'll address the problem with Toyota. Loved your helpful advice. Thanks
Thanks for the video. I also replaced my rear handle, my problem is when I reinstall the cable with the ball on the end I put it in correctly and the snap in the cable where it has that small groumnet to hold it in place I test it several times and then after a day or so I can't open it again. I have had to pull the panel off three times and each time the cable keeps popping off the handle. Any suggestions?
Thanks. I ordered my handle and it will be here tomorrow which is cool. I will have it installed before Monday. I already got the back panel off and everything ready to go. All I have to do is pop the new on in.
I watched your video after I installed a new all-metal handle from eBay. I found that after I closed the tailgate for a test, I couldn't get it to open again. I tried moving the lock mechanism from the inside but it still won't budge. I see you are monitoring this comment thread. Do you have any ideas? The battery drained during the time I was working on the car (I also replaced the driver's door handle and had my grandson in the van during the work. He turned on the headlights!...) Would the battery drain have anything to do with the locking mechanism? I tried to manually open the lock with my key and felt resistance when trying to do it. Thanks for your video! It is clear and helpful with good closeups!
High Desert Tennis Association if the door lock doesn't work with the Remote button the actuator itself could be bad or unplugged. But if it doesn't open with the handle and the key then there's something is misadjusted or something is causing it to bind and stick. So you're going to need to pull that back panel back off and try to get in there with a flashlight and look around to see what's causing it. It could be the part itself. But like I said if it doesn't unlock with the remote key button then then check the servo motor. The servomotor maybe build into the latch itself not the handle. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.
Hey man great job. Thanks for your time in making this video. You save me over 300 bucks at my dealership. I had no idea how this whole thing had to work. Any chance of you doing one for a sunroof that doesn't completely close? LOL 1999 Sienna moon/sunroof Thanks again

In my opinion, that is the nicest color (sailfin blue pearl) on a 1998-03 Sienna. Excluding black and white.
