Yes. Almost certainly. Rescues usually don’t go on at night. But I understand that Brendan was worried about Sailor and was just in a total panic flight state. It is very sad. RIP Brendan.
I hunted in some woods for 20 years and knew them well. One evening I bagged a deer had to track and clean it. Head lamp dies, phone died and I got disoriented. Walked 45 min the wrong direction packing a deer in 40 deg, windy weather. Finally found a creek I knew the location of and realized I was 2 hr walk to my atv. You're lucky other wild animals didn't attack you for that deer. The first thing I would have done is drop the deer. But if you had been attacked people would have figured out you held on to a deer in the dead of night with no light in the woods. Having a weapon isn't much help in the dark.

No disrespect, but crystal did add risk by using the dang camera. It makes more sense to wear a camera harness and add your face when in solid position. Not film self while walking.
That first couple should have hunkered down and *waited* for dawn. Stumbling around in the dark was a terrible choice 🤦♀️ Conserving energy and the batteries on their phones and reassessing the terrain when they could actually SEE 😪
I was disappointed in the first story in how it was presented and that there was no 'lessons learned' as usual at the end. Yes, we want to be respectful of those in the situation, especially since one of them died, but despite repeated protestations in the narration otherwise, these two did 'have a choice'. They 'had a choice' at every juncture, including the moment they realized they were stuck in the forest without proper light, to shelter in place. At worst, they could instead have used their phone lights to gather and pile up branches to keep themselves off the ground overnight and waited until they had enough light to see again to try and get back to their cars. Yes, it would have been a miserable night, but it still would have been less miserable than what happened while they wandered around in the dark trying to find a trail they couldn't see. The lessons learned: i) always tell a responsible person who is not on the hike where you are going and when you'll be home, yes even for a day hike. If you don't return on time that person can call for help. Since no search parties were sent in this case, I'm guessing this pair didn't do that. ii) always have the 10 essentials with you, yes even for a day hike. iii) if you are lost or caught in the dark like that (especially if you are without lights/headlamps) then shelter in place. Either wait until it grows light enough to see the trail or until rescuers come and find you, depending on the situation, and depending on whether you let anyone know about your plans before heading out...
Always packed for 3 days.. if anything happens you have 3 days of water if anything happens you have 3 days of food and batteries etc this is the difference between life and death 3 days you will be hopefully reported missing by your loved ones and have a better chance of being found alive not dead
Brendan was a son to make his parents proud! He gave his life for his friend, Saylor. She, in a similar vein, was as brave as they come, to persevere in the face of terrible pain. What a courageous young woman she is!
Them finding Sailor didn't turn their hike in to a nightmare, but if they hadn't seen her until the guy saw her in the photo that night, or even the next day, THAT would have. Because by then it would have been too late.
Like others are saying, if you get lost and / or injured, STAY PUT, TOGETHER. Next 1, she probably fell because she was looking at the camera, and not the terrain. Very sad. So glad for a happy ending though. That was a relief!!!
My question for the first story is always been the same whenever I've heard it before. Why did she not call out to the hikers who were so close to her? Was she unconscious?
Was lead astray by a gps in Saginaw mi while trying to find the hospital; taken to a dead end street and pretty sure I witnessed an illicit deal involving a small paper bag hand off… I have had serious mistrust for all gps since then.
A lot of people were killed on Mt Baldy and/or missing that season, when Crystal died. I remember it well. Julian Sands, the actor was one of them. There was one man whose disappearance was completely overshadowed by those two incidents and another immediately following Sands’ disappearance. Sands was since found deceased. There have been over a hundred missing or needed rescues and at least seven fatalities since 2020. That’s a lot. I’m not even sure if that number has increased since I last checked.
Crazy! Yeah, you can’t go walking around when you can’t see with all those steep drops. I used to hike in the Santa Monica Mountains in the morning. There’s no way it was gonna be dark, but we did go hiking one time at night. It was moonlight. We didn’t. Well, I think we brought flashlights, but this makes me think we were a couple of idiots, even though we most likely did have flashlights, at least one. But I just remember feeling oblivious, that’s why I say we’re both still idiots. Because I was oblivious to any safety concerns whatsoever. That was a long time ago.
Hello Kyle from your subscriber from India.!! Love the videos you make. Praying you get a million subcribe soon, you certainly deserve it 🙏 good luck to you.
I once purposely took a late afternoon hike up to a mountain lake thinking that because there would be a full moon I would easily see the trail on my return. I didn’t realize that in a forest the moonlight is blocked by tree branches.
Well that's terrifying that the GPS failed. Once I was in iceland and the GPS literally told me to "go off the road". So I guess i shouldn't be surprised.
Its interesting that people think that Mother Nature is impressed by their "experience" or their fancy and proper survival gear, their Garmins or anything else. In fact, it almost seems like Mother Nature focuses on the people who crave risk, excitement, thrills and danger....and then delivers to them exactly what they sought. 😳😧

That being said, Kyle is so bad with pronunciation and so aware of it that I can't even bring myself to correct him! The self-awareness as he stumbles through tough words and names is just too amusing and honestly pretty cute.
Recently I heard a story about someone camping in Montana. The guy was unfortunate enough to cross paths with a guy who looked just like Captain Spaulding. Not only did this guy look like Captain Spaulding, he was insane like him too.
Hiking friends went on a day hike after a hurricane in upstate NY which I luckily couldn’t make it to. Turns out the hurricane wiped out the trails and they got lost and wound up in the woods at night and made it out around midnight only because there was a full moon that night. After that my friend said he always carries a night light on hikes. I would have freaked out so really glad I wasn’t there. Good advise to always carry one because you never know.
No light: Stay put
That's what I was thinking too!!
Stay put and ways carry matches.

Definitely! To help other people avoid this situation happening to them... emphasizing >>shelter in place
Always packed for 3 days.. if anything happens you have 3 days of water if anything happens you have 3 days of food and batteries etc this is the difference between life and death 3 days you will be hopefully reported missing by your loved ones and have a better chance of being found alive not dead
The commercials are rediculous
Brendan was a son to make his parents proud! He gave his life for his friend, Saylor.
She, in a similar vein, was as brave as they come, to persevere in the face of terrible pain. What a courageous young woman she is!
I would think night hiking on uneven ground is definitely Not a good idea!
I send love and light to Crystal's family. Im at least glad that she passed doing something that made her so happy. ❤
Them finding Sailor didn't turn their hike in to a nightmare, but if they hadn't seen her until the guy saw her in the photo that night, or even the next day, THAT would have. Because by then it would have been too late.
kyle you are an amazing story teller
There was several "death by GPS" in the same place here in nsw Australia
Like others are saying, if you get lost and / or injured, STAY PUT, TOGETHER. Next 1, she probably fell because she was looking at the camera, and not the terrain. Very sad.
So glad for a happy ending though. That was a relief!!!
30:30 as a GenX I grew up drinking hot dirty hose water. I’m well-trained for survival.
I won’t even drive up Azusa canyon.
My question for the first story is always been the same whenever I've heard it before. Why did she not call out to the hikers who were so close to her? Was she unconscious?
Hiking in the dark while making a video? That is just a little too dangerous for me!
Been to death valley.... It was 128 degrees.... Hot doesn't describe it.
Ignorance can be deadly ❤😮💨
You deserve 1 mil so bad man! You are one of my favorite listens and its so easy for me to follow allong with your storytelling 😁
Was lead astray by a gps in Saginaw mi while trying to find the hospital; taken to a dead end street and pretty sure I witnessed an illicit deal involving a small paper bag hand off… I have had serious mistrust for all gps since then.
Those women going further and further into the desert... I can remember the last time I've been almost sick with dread listening to a story.
Maybe not a good idea to be hiking in the dark while taking a video using a selfie stick. Pay attention to what you're doing, folks!
What, and not have something to stream on Tic Tac or whatever platform they use. They got to have that hey look what I'm doing attention you know.
its nice to hear a happy ending
👍 and thank you
Woah I’ve never been this early, 53 sec! Thanks for the vids Kyle.
53 seconds and there was already 3 or 4 comments before you. Wild.
If Kyle Hates Hiking then I hate watching Kyle Hates Hiking channel!!
Thanks, Kyle.
Hello Kyle from your subscriber from India.!!
Love the videos you make. Praying you get a million subcribe soon, you certainly deserve it 🙏 good luck to you.
Hi!!!!
Omg. Ty for these interesting stories.
Hi Kyle & 🥾🌄Gang
LOVE UR STORYS BRO !!! I even rewatch the 3+ hour ones :) have blessed day
I once purposely took a late afternoon hike up to a mountain lake thinking that because there would be a full moon I would easily see the trail on my return. I didn’t realize that in a forest the moonlight is blocked by tree branches.
Well that's terrifying that the GPS failed. Once I was in iceland and the GPS literally told me to "go off the road". So I guess i shouldn't be surprised.
Kyle you and Mr Ballen tell the best stories .
cant even trust gps now? dammn
I love the gruns, just wish they didn’t give me mouth sores. So glad you’ve partnered with them.
Thank goodness for that trailor. I wonder who was there before??
Sad for Crystal. I go to Covina, where she is from according to her fb, regularly. I used to work out in Covina. Sad for herself and her fam. Whoa.
I went hiking i check 4 times on everything. My friends im overreacting guess who only one that emergency phone when. One hikers broken there leg.
Be that over preparing person in group. When if things turn south. You bet your bottom dollar they will thank you so much owe you a fancy dinner
I couldn't have said it better
Crystal probably fell bc she was too busy mugging for the camera and not paying attention to her footing.
I have an English degree, so I'm typically a stickler for correct grammar and pronunciation, truly one of "those people" that everyone wants to punch. That being said, Kyle is so bad with pronunciation and so aware of it that I can't even bring myself to correct him! The self-awareness as he stumbles through tough words and names is just too amusing and honestly pretty cute.
Kyle, you share a birthday with my father, my niece and Elvis Presley!!!
And David Bowie, and me, and my cousin, and one of my best friends.
Recently I heard a story about someone camping in Montana. The guy was unfortunate enough to cross paths with a guy who looked just like Captain Spaulding. Not only did this guy look like Captain Spaulding, he was insane like him too.
oh?? whered you here this at would love more info
