  • In this video I talk a little about the benefits of adding pond lights and how to set them up. This pond is my native fish pond. I have both solar and low volt dc pond lights in this pond.
Here is the link to the $23 solar lights: ebay.us/IsFPXb
Here is a link to the easy connectors for low volt cable: ebay.us/PSI4DP

I love how the Crickets seem to be an integral part of the music around 10 minutes in. 😁

Great information. You could also set up a motion sensor for the low voltage lights.

Thanks Kev for a great channel. Where did you get your 12v lights?

Thanks, great timing. I ordered the one in the description a few minutes ago.
The Southern Pygmy Perch in this video look quite big. I've found a supplier of Perch but not Southern Pygmy Perch - now I'm wondering whether Perch may be too big. I'm starting digging tomorrow and think I'll have about 3m x 2m of pond, so smaller than yours.

G’day Dave. My southern Pygmy perch are about 5-7cm long I guess, that’s the big ones there’s heaps of smaller ones. The rainbows are bigger at about 10cm. I have 2 silver perch in a 4ft tank at the moment they will grow to around 30cm, eventually they will live in the big pond I’m building. Would love to see pics of your pond when your done 👍

Hi Kevin, I found that the linked lights don’t have a white light, only red, green or blue, despite some of their eBay listing images showing a white light. I’ve advised them that their listing isn’t accurate. I’ll probably use the lights somewhere else in the garden - definitely don’t want a red, green or blue pond!

Thanks for letting everyone know 👍 are they adjustable? I’ve just bought 9 colour changing for my big pond build. I got those from Bunnings though.

@@Ozponds They have three "fixed colour" modes and a colour change mode that constantly changes through the spectrum, including white! But they can't be fixed on white. I asked the vendor if they could but apparently they can't, and they don't have lights that are constantly white in stock now.

    Huh. I've got a tiny 27 gallon
That solar light might be great for me. Now I'm wondering about solar powering my filtration.

If that’s the route you want to go, you’ll need a battery. The problem with solar pumps is obviously night time. The major issue being at night plants will consume oxygen in the water rather than produce it. In a small confined area with many fish this can become a major issue. If you can I always recommend using a low volt pump as an alternative to solar. You’ll be able to easily extend it to almost anywhere in the average sized backyard.
