  • A comparison video of Qeynos before GU 64 - Qeynos Rises, and after the update.
    Some areas have changed radically, especially the castle and the suburbs, while others only have a few objects and NPCs added, moved or removed.

    When they killed the suburbs is when they killed the game, I think. No, they weren't much in terms of content, but they were immersive and a real part of the vibe of the game. Baubleshire and Temple Street felt like 'home" in a way that some acorn or apartment in a communal quest hub town just doesn't. Like you had a place to go to just sit and relax, enjoy the ambiance, without being surrounded by the hustle of a busy city.
    In terms of art design, I dislike how "polished" everything is. Upgrading to higher resolution textures and denser frames is fine, but it really looks like Queen Antonia just took a pressure washer to every surface in hte city. No moss, no stains, all the bricks are perfectly even. Old Qeynos (and freeport for that matter) looked like a place where people lived, with little abandoned corners, grime between the bricks, vines on the walls. This new stuff just looks antiseptic.

      I agree. I lost interest in the game a while after this video. That they repaired Luclin didn't help. Seeing that foreboding destroyed moon hovering above you was epic. Now it's just a moon.

      @@TommyDaGreatest They weren't useless originally. They had a ridiculous number of quests in them up until LU19 did the first major content revamp.

    I know some of it did but many of the changes like Qeynos walls etc. were those changes simply cosmetic or did they actually have anything to do with lore??

    • @TommyDaGreatest
      @TommyDaGreatest  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cosmetic. Unless it counts that "they spent more money to make citizens feel better" ish... Or "make Freeport look more powerful" like they said in that revamp. To me, it was just unneccessary to change those suburbs. But the suburbs did get some racial quests so I guess that's to be considered lore :P

      In the City of Qeynos Timeline there's a half-elf who kvetches about how more was done to the Castle than to repairing the walls and homes. When you look at how ridiculous that castle became and what happened to the suburbs, it's hard to not agree with the half-elf that the Queen did more for herself and neglected the suburbs.

      ^^^really ? I played only habbits in eq 1 & 2. I was shocked to see how terrible rivervale got attacked & turned into a warzone in eq2. I think its time they told us about whats really going on in rivervale..now i WANT to hop back on eq2 lol

      I was ironic. There is no such expansion :P
      If you did some questing in Rivervale you would know what happened there already. But basically, it's plagued by The Void...

    Hit me right in the feels. I’ve been playing on and off for the past 10 years. The Varsoon server made me relapse and now I’m making more alts to bring up through the old content to relive some of what the glory days had to offer. Some of the challenges have returned yes, but I was really hoping to be able to do the class progression quest I.e. priest to Druid then to warden or fury. Thank you for keeping this video up. Tunares blessing upon you.

      Thank you. I actually didn't play during that time. I tried the demo of Echos of Faydwer and bought the game in Sentinel's Return. So to me it was always available from the start.

      Keep an eye on the EQ2 emulator project. We've completely resurrected classic Qeynos and are beginning to do the same for Freeport.

  • @angelicartwork
    @angelicartwork 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I still don't think that Qeynos got the same attention in their revamp as Freeport, and as it stands the story has been left open with no proper ending as to what the heck is going on in Qeynos. Not entirely.

    • @TommyDaGreatest
      @TommyDaGreatest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was based on high CPU frequency, but only Single Core, so when processors started using multicore processing, the game didn't keep up with the tech. A single CPU of like 6 Ghz would probably have ran it fine if the technology took that route instead.

      @@TommyDaGreatest the game came out in 2004 and it ran like crap on my system. I got a new PC in 2008 and it still ran like crap on that system. Then I got a new PC in 2012, and it still ran like crap on that system. I got a new PC again in 2017 but I didn't bother re-testing the game. Much better looking games than it ran a lot smoother on the same machine. There's no excuse for a 2004 game running like crap on a 2012 PC.
      Is it still like that?
