  • In a conversation at Harvard Medical School, with Emery Brown, Professor of Anaesthesia, Harvard Medical School and Nicholas Schiff, Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience, Cornell Medical College, Sadhguru looks at pain and the neurological system, and speaks about how the science of anesthesia can be raised to a different level by looking into these aspects. #Sadhguru #HarvardMedicalSchool #Neuroscience

Yogi, mystic and visionary, Sadhguru is a spiritual master with a difference. An arresting blend of profundity and pragmatism, his life and work serves as a reminder that yoga is a contemporary science, vitally relevant to our times.

isn't chronic pain self induced? Psychologically or by Life style .. Just curious

      Esh Sundar
      Esh Sundar
. It’s extremely complicated. Mind and body are united. It’s a problem in the human condition. Self-induced? If somebody broke their leg in pieces in a hurricane, or any one of an infinite number of ills, is it self-induced? If a child gets ill and has chronic pain, is it self-induced?
Life is full of pain, and until we are all living in a paradisiacal state I think we will be learning, hopefully, better and better ways to address and understand it. But theres not a simplistic solution that simply blames the sufferer, in my view.

Whenever I would work to hard, or run too much and be sore, or have a headache, or have herniated disks in my back, or after the reconstruction of my right-hand tendons, or sciatic nerve pain, or just to go to sleep quickly, I have been unconsciously hitting dozens of different pressure points on my entire body for pain-relief since I was around 5-6 years old. I actually did not know anything about pressure points for about 32 years of my life (not enough understanding to take it seriously), and only in the past 2 months or so have I actually gone forward with memorizing the areas and connections to the different parts of the body. Honestly, it helps tremendously, especially if one becomes cognizant where the different points are, and what they are known to be linked to.

Sadhguru had severe pain in his head but he ignored it . He suffered a stroke as a result. But I do understand what Sadhguru is trying to tell us . I suffered from eczema and used Vaseline for it on my skin, although I was aware that the cause had to come from within. I then started using fish oil and certain vitamins while also omitting dairy milk products . I'm now recovered from within. Cause and effect . (Fish oil and omega or seaweed is also good for Sadhguru)

The heart is the first neurologic system created in the body. It is funny that this man at the end said that we are starting to see parallels in response between the heart and the brain neurologically. Have you ever heard the phrase, "my heart just dropped." or "I am heartbroken." It is true that the heart feels pain because it is a neurologic entity and a core part of the entire system. This is a next step for science. The heart, it is a brain of sorts, we just don't know how or why yet. Perhaps that knowledge is only for our creator to fully understand because our hearts are so sacred. We shall see...

Chan Davy , depends on what type of pain. I think if its physical you can manage it with medications , but if emotional then it is difficult. One have to have support from loved ones. Believe me , having a pet helps much.

Why didn't you try that very same technique over your own headache. Why did you have to get yourself operated by neurosurgeons at Apollo hospital.

You are a person with dwarfism and your growth discs are completely closed. This causes a constant chronic pain in the body. You can't sleep, you can't live without a constant sense of pain. What advice do you have for such a person? How can this pain be released? Using this as an example but there are many more examples of people in constant physical pain which doesn't get fully explained in many spiritual teaching. Thanks you for responding!

Sadly 1 year has passed and no one can still give you a real answer. But manually breathing can really help take your mind off it.

Just thought of polyvagal exercises too to release trauma from your nervous system. Plus Biofeedback or even Neurofeedback (check to see if people do this in your area) . You can also try Apps like Curable for pain management and others for depression such as Youper, Sanvello; anxiety and depression or SuperBetter.

      Here is one answer:
Embrace the greater knowledge of the pain.
The reason for it. The lessons it brings you constantly.
