All very good tips! Testing an knowing your gear before you go is very important. You made a great point about small things being bigger issues after hiking a long day. When you are tired this small thing do seem bigger. Great video Derek! 👍
Having a list. Oh hell yeah. Imagine taking off on your own, getting to camp, setting up and getting ready to prepare your meal. You pull out your food bag, select your ingredients, assemble your stove and then discover your cook kit is still at home in your gear tote. Been there. Done that. I lived the night on snacks and went home humiliated the next morning. Now I have a checklist saved on my phone. I lay every item out on the bed, verify and then pack my pack.
#2 might be the best one on here! No one talks about this. I can definitely tell you I have left home without significant pieces of gear to the point I have had to leave a trip on the first night because of forgetting something. Excellent video and even better advice!

Yeah a combination of fatique and inexperience can lead to some challenging situations haha. We all go through it.
