Honestly speaking, my personal feeling about the boy who drank too much, I pity him....cos his case was mishandled by the school teacher....back then when the Mum told the teacher that they are getting a divorce....is not for the teacher to discriminate and label the boy that he’s from a broken family....very unprofessional of the teacher to do that....because of that the boy just spiral out of control....so sad....😢but so glad that we are able to pick him back up🥲
Lack of EQ is a growing issue in SG. I don’t know how this can be improved. Should we have more education and ads about how we should strengthen ourselves in EQ and critical thinking?
i don't think teacher is to blame, the records were disclosed by parents, how is the teacher to know the child didn't know his own parents separated... i think parents these days lack the grit and responsibility of their own child's upbringing, everything also throw back to teachers and social services...

The teacher is sooooo immoral. Teachers aren't allow to degrade kids in your care in school.. that's terrible... Some teachers has no empathy.... Is like nurses had no empathy for sick people..
@@fattiez We don't have the full information but from the way the boy explained, seems like the teacher handled it unprofessionally. Prolly something triggered the teacher to react that way.
Idk my question is why would the teacher tell a teenager that his parents are separated and argue with him about it? I mean... if the kid was already confused, I think the teacher should have taken it as a sign to just step back and check with the parents if the boy knows instead of being all “HERE YOUR PARENTS ARE SEPARATED.”

There is a bias but it would be bad BM on the The Probation Services. I am not against it but there are cases where the youngsters don't deserve a second chance. Besides it is kinda funny as its like the ranch from Doc Phil

For the show they give off that persona. But from what I've heard many actually get off on breaking apart families, and many of these ladies make decisions based on the gender/race of the offender.

Those kids from lower income and broken family need better guardian/mentor in their life. In this video, can see most of their parents/grandparents are not suitable to guide them properly.
The probation officer is only a short-term solution, when their probation period ends, these kids would find themselves lost and might commit crimes again.
a longer term mentorship program for these group of youths, maybe manned by trained volunteers is more sustainable.
True , they need more of this. But sadly , i feel like not enough emphasis being put to Low income family kids that is prone to violence and poverty. Not enough resources are also being provided to Low income families to get out of poverty.
Nah, it’s for them to actually become aware and mature to stop their behaviour. If they can’t realise what they are doing is wrong then they shouldn’t be in this society. So it all depends on yourself to wake up, if you don’t want wake up people help u also no use
Not about Low income or broken. Low and high income also same when they drift apart when it can happen during school, home and outside. Very normal. Until you get older and wiser and suddenly you will say past is really funny and lame when we were very naive and sensitive back young age.
I guess school can help play a part in guiding such kids

45:48 I find what the director said really interesting : "almost every aspect of your living, your progress, your thinking, your behaviour, *get* to be monitored. It *gets* to be supported. It *gets* to be challenged." It really is a privilege to have a fixed routine without any consequences (as in no criminal record etc) as punishment. (However counterintuitive or dictator-sounding it seems) You have a support to lean on, u have a mentor to push you in the right directions, and you have people that are willing to correct your thinking when needed.
Too often I feel people will not care about those who commit crimes, simply calling them "lazy, disappointment, it's just like that lor etc". What they don't realise is that you do need a mentor in your life, especially those without model parents or parents even (that orphan kid). I think the probation program is wonderful for that. Don't get me wrong: I've never been in such a program, and I'm sure that there are a lot of issues with it (Maybe a transition week initially, kinda like in NS?). But the concept is one that I think is extremely useful for young offenders. And the POs are really gentle and kind even to those that break the rules, they have my respect for choosing such a job.

So emotional watching this towards the end. If at least one person is reformed, everyone involved (the parent, the caregiver, the probation officer, the society) did a part in changing a youth or adolescent who strayed a little too far during their confusing state of directions. It's true what they say that it takes a village to raise a child.

These youths need to find something form of activity that they are passionate about to stay away from trouble. I would hope that the probation officers assist them in finding out what their passions could be. It is possible that some of these youths feel because they are not as educated as other students that they are not "good enough" when it is more of it being due to them having a talent in other areas.

hate to say but for the sexual offenders i wonder if they ever considered how their victims feel and reflected and feel remorse towards the victim(s) and not just themselves and the ppl ard them. like for the case of guy that they interviewed its mostly about himself and nth about the victim(s). sexual offences are not like theft or break-in cases, victims often carry the trauma for life. i do hope that they do touch on that in further episodes that they do drill in on these sexual offenders the amount of hurt and trauma they caused to their victims aside from helping these offenders control their sexual urges.
Yeah I totally agree on what you said. It’s not the responsibility of females that they “arouse them”. They need to learn to develop respect for females and their victims.

i feel like the genuine and personal anecdotes by the youths first hand rlly reinforced a different perspective on people who just seem to be actively perpetuating a lifestyle of being a social liability.... the implications of someone with 20, 16 years of living suddenly become polarised as i now understand age is not a good indicator of one's maturity . twenty years of life in a neglected, indifferent and seemingly stagnant household with few opportunities to gain interaction with positively influencing communities since young can breed an exceptionally jaded, bitter and pessimistic individual with not much room to run, simply trying to navigate 'life' and society through with a malfunctioning subconscious.
I think the sexual offender is being taught the wrong thing by being asked to suppress his sexual thoughts. Instead, he should be taught things like how to ask for consent and what is considered consensual sex. What he’s going through seems quite sex-negative and prudish.
i agree. they should also be taught about how their actions affect their victims. many victims have to live with this sort of trauma forever....
I think these youth need... someone. To talk. Sighhh. Where can we have a platform for these youth to talk to someone! I am sure they are warned of the laws. But think is just the spurge of loneliness? That cause them. :( sigh... is just sad to see these... anyone knows where to volunteer?
They did. They seek out to their “friends”, people in the same circle, do bad things together, and thought they had found someone who “understand” them. They never knew these “friends” are “wrong” and it just spiral from there.

I cannot help but give this comment .. there are TWO favourite characters that i like in this video .. 1) is the malay mother that just wants the very best for his boy, the way she talk you know she CONSTANTLY always coax her child to STOP doing bad thing. 2) 31:32 THIS probation officer is VERY GOOD .. she is very professional to know how to ask thinking question. I really say very cheers to her. Sometimes you really MUST ask the person thinking question "Why you think you must do this, is it to help you or to make your life difficult. When offenders realize this they tend to wake up and understand what they do is wrong.

most of those young offenders have a very troubled household and their behaviour are a reflection of that. Probation is a good chance for them to reflect and change instead of throwing them into jail where their mindset might get worse
When they are alone. They are usually good people.
Bruh some comments in here are really not it smh. Guess that's the issue with us Singaporeans, we judge others too easily and tend to look down on others, that's why they turn out like that, cos they feel like there's already nothing to lose so they'll just continue doing whatever they want, without anyone bothering to listen to their issues

Actually cats are not even allowed to be kept in HDB in the first place....
That too this many cats in one cage... a cage that size is suitable for only 1 cat for a very SHORT amount of time such as during emergencies where cat need to be confined safely etc... maybe the family lets the cats out when they don't have guests at home.

The pressing issue and common denominator here in all of the cases are the lack of familial support. This video does not show the difficulties that the parents have to go through in terms of their difficulties doing wage work. Probation is only a temporary band aid to the issues these youths face. A long term solution will be how to increase the incomes of their parents or enable them more freedom in time vs having to commit to long hours of work which can give them the ability to guide their children better

Think most of it is their own mindset and what they want in life. Ive been to girls home and i know what kind of people are in there. Some are determined to change even when they're out but some just give no f. Some who have changed inside when they're out just goes back to square one. Ult it's all ones decisions and choices in life and whether u have the will to make it happen

I always think that probation is a way to avoid punishment.but now i realised that actually it is very hard for the offenders to avoid offending again. 放下屠刀，立地成佛。easier said that done
I was once on probation for shop theft and voluntarily causing hurt back then in 2016, was placed on probation for 18 months, 120 hours of community service which i did in old folks home, electronic tagging on the leg, looking back, i didnt really feel angry about what has happened to me because its the choices that we decide to.

Imani Sumaili yes but i finished within 1 month because it was holidays that time for me, so i finished 180 hours by 30 days 9-3 everyday

Feel bad for all the offenders. Probation officers were not so kind during my time. Was charged with 18 months probation. Breached and charged in court again 8 months thru. Probation was extended by 4 months and sent to hostel for 12 months. Quite a fun 12 months with a lot of memories tho. BBH 52/08 :)
My dad used to impose 6pm curfew on me everyday; worse than this probation curfew. If I return home after 6m, I will be locked outside the house main door and need to sleep along the corridor for the night.
That is so wrong, nothing can be learned from this.
Luckily, I've never been placed on probation or charged in court since I can't keep time. I have never been on time for anything my whole life, and I don't intend to ever be. I work better at night, so why not just leave me be for overtime, and don't expect me to report to office strictly on time? Some people are just like that. I can never comprehend the purpose of ensuring that a whole population of people keep their punctuality. It's pointless in my opinion.
You can always work night shift. Or better yet be your own boss lol. I also prefer nights

From they way some of these youth replies when being questioned sound so bad.
They sound no remorse n even make us feel that they are so proud of their crime!
Yeah they would only act like they are remorseful in front of the judges and when they finish their sentence they will just do worser things and get another sentence so it is like a rinse and repeat.

wow bring back memories when i was under probabtion for 3years ( the max i think ) when i was 16, imagine i cant go home after 8pm for 3years ..

@@boonhui4782 cant rmb , it's been a long time, but there was alot of programs i have to attend.
There was a prison visit for naughty probationers. I was selected and after the visit, i got nightmares every night until now 10 years already. Mine was I pranked call 999 and ask them where is nemo for 40 times.

There is a huge part to be blamed on the parents themselves. They seemingly been so easy and loosen up raising their children. This generation is not our generation where we knew when to play and when to get back home on time. We are way too disciplined and respectful in the early days. I think the 80's is the last generation that is controllable. I have my son who was born in 1982 that I never had encountered nor experienced troubles in all aspects of his growing up as me and his father was alternately guiding him. I don't remember us beating, hitting or yelling at him and the most important is we never showed him our heavy arguments as a couple for I know it will affected him once he saw it as much as it affected me whenever my parents fought and finally separated. Healthy childhood must come from home on how the children perceived what they are seeing inside only by then we parents been assured the life we wanted for our kids. Right balance is all you needed.
But what country are we looking at?
Teachers are the second parents of their students. We must not touch that much personal thing towards the student. They will feel more negatives than to be optimistic about their situations. I am a teacher that's why I'm telling these.

Nobody knows what you will do when you get drunk. Best advice, stay away from alcohol. Pls be grateful as they don't have such probation programme in Malaysia. Young Offenders even at 14 y/o will be direct send to Youth Institution such Tunas Bakti which equal to prison depends on Court decision. Some 10mth. Some even several yrs. Once you 18, will be transferred to real prison.

Watching this makes me remember I was in probation before . Reason being I lend my IC to my friend at that time because she (almost 18) wish to go clubbing which was around 10 years back .
