Thanks for a great story, Lamont. I'm a history teacher in Pa. and was just telling my students about the King Fish. I read an article that stated he may have been struck by one of the 61 bullets fired by his bodyguards. Also, as Long was an outspoken critic of FDR, there was a bit of relief among FDR's staff that Huey would not be around to speak against the president.

He had an aide and condidant named Seymour Weiss (no relation to Dr. Weiss) who unknown to Sen Long reported to J Edgar Hoover's office about Long's activities. Hoover despised Long and wanted to find grounds for prosecuction and possible imprisonment.

I remember reading about this. Very sad but it was said that huey long would be better dead than alive due to how he did things and many people hated him. The guy that came to talk to him tried to warn him 3 times.

I’ve always had an admiration for Huey Long, and had he lived, FDR would
Have had a serious challenger to the 1936 presidential Democratic nomination. His slogan was “Every man a king, but no one wears a crown”, and he was very critical of the New Deal, believing that it did not go far enough when it came to relieving human suffering. What set him apart from most other white southern Democrats was that he got ahead by appealing to economic needs rather than to the idea of white supremacy. He was for the poor man, and it didn’t matter what color he was. What I really like about that statue of him over his gravesite is that it’s almost as if he’s still watching over the capital he helped build. Thanks for sharing Lamont.

Good job Lamont. Huey long was for the common man as well as himself. He was responsible for getting many miles of rural roads paved, schools and free hospitals built. The book all the Kings Men written by Robert Penn Warren was allegedly based on his life. Later a movie of the same name staring Broderick Crawford. To the common man in Louisiana the was a saint. to others, not so much.

Gas was so cheap bc Trump's economy was collapsed due to Covid. Millions lost jobs in restaurants, bars, hotels, airlines. People were quarantined. No one was on the roads. If Trump had taken Covid seriously, who knows how many people might still be alive. So you want cheap gas? Tell it to the famlies of the people who lost their lives bc Trump downplayed Covid and pretty much did nothing. Except to say inject with bleach or stick ultraviolet light sticks where the sun don't shine. Now I remember why I unsubbed this guy some time ago. His videos still find their way on my home screen. BTW, for all the good Huey Long did, he was as corrupt as the day is long. Do some research on your own time if you don't believe me.
