Love these. Club got a couple in last week -- one was mine. :) Ditto on everything in the review. Logan and Robin are tops.

Do you guys practice with other weapons, like axes and spears? I'd love to hear your take on the synthetic weapons from Purpleheart Armoury. They even have a synthetic Khopesh, now.

Could you guys review the vb techiniques fader from purple heart?

I keep getting it into my head to get a new Feder, but then realizing my Albion is still perfectly fine.
Have you guys encountered Lansknecht Emporium's new Feders and Messers?

Could you make a comparison video about the polish Sparring Gloves and the Neyman Thokk Gloves? :)

Noob here, but if you had a sword with a nut on the end could you add some thread locker to keep it from loosening up? Or is that a bad idea in case you ever do need to take the sword apart?

I'd say go ahead, it will keep it together and you can always unscrew it later on it'll just be a little harder

Beautiful blades.. what are you guys' opinions on ring guards on Feders? THey look sweet and the added hand protection is nice, but I never see anyone use them..

akumabito2008 Personally, I see it as a personal preference. I practice Greatsword, so Rings are somewhat required. But on a feder, I think that's an option if you really want it.

Ian Hollier "Zwerchhaus"? Sorry, I'm not very familiar with the German names. Would you mind explaining that?

How does this compare to the SGT feders? I've recently purchase two of SGT's (which have a recently upgraded design in the guard), but I don't have them, yet. (They're being reviewed by the TH-camr, 'Medieval Review')

Chaosism SGT makes good feders, we did a review on them a while back. There have been some updates and changes to their process and design which have definitely improved them since then as well, making them even better. That being said, Black Horse is definitely higher quality, but it's also considerably more expensive. So you get what you pay for there.

How's the handling compare to the ensifer? Does the ensifer feel heavier?

I am interested in these feders, i just really wish they made a longer model (100/32cm). If they did that i coild almost justify spending that insane amount of money lol

Apologies if this is a double post, although it doesn't appear to be. I tried posting a few days ago and my PC crapped out in the middle of sending.
Blackhorse is super easy to work with. I have a custom feder on order from them that I hope will arrive in a few months. They were very patient in working with me, and that level of customer care really says a lot. Another member of the HEMA club I belong to has an extra long Blackhorse on order. It's not listed on their site and he had to ask them personally for a VERY custom job. He's a super tall guy with a long reach so he needs a very long sword. I believe, from memory, that the blade and grip will be longer, but I'm not sure - memory loss as I get older! Anyway, give them an email and ask. They might be able to accommodate you.

How are they holding up now, what is your impression since August? I am hunting for something new...I am looking for something lighter this time around, but this one is still on my list etc.

We must have very, very different ideas of what makes a beautiful sword! Yeesh, they look so boxy & crude. Not to say that compromises their performance or that you guys don't know what you're talking about or your own tastes :)
Glad to hear they're holding up! Seems the spatulated tip is gaining a lot of favour over the rolled tip for safety in the thrust.
Do you see spatulated tips becoming the standard for HEMA federschwert?

Some say this is too stiff and not suggested for sparring. What say you?

Hahaha yeah....if you can get one. My maestro has been waiting for months! His feder is taking almost double what its supposed to. Blackhorse is lucky he's a cool guy, He isnt even really saying anything about it. Over 7-8 months he will have waited. Had to do a bear pit with a Crappy old feder that broke and he was almost injured (rolled tip snapped on a thrust) because his feder wasn't done 5 MONTHS after he ordered it and paid in full. Hes still talking about "patience is a virture" etc. While these are high quality order a stock model, Because these appear to be way way less customizable than advertised. They are great swords without a doubt but I have been watching my instructor get what alot of us feel might be the runaround, and hes being a way nicer guy than I would be about it. Hes still recommending them to people and I wouldnt be regardless of how good they are. We can all tell how dissapointed he is....blackhorse should get there priorities straightened out because even if he isnt complaining the whole club sees it and the general concensus is most people would pass on them regardless of quality etc. Which is too bad because they are top quality but if you pay over 680 dollars (custom not stock) for a product you should at LEAST get regular communication and updates as to whats going on. I personally would have asked for my money back by now.

Apparently Robin left the company and the customer service has gone to trash. Months of unanswered emails. Logan only finished my blade after I clawed my money back through my credit card company (6 months after the due date). I had heard that Logan was injured and that was the cause for the delay, but then I found out that he was competing in every league event in the Midwest with his "injury". I for one will never do business with them again.

Update: The order was originally understood to be a blade that was already finished, where he just had to affix a handle....So not really a custom build. BHB has a no-refund policy on custom builds, so be aware of that. Once you put your money down, it is theirs until whenever they get around to making your sword, which could be MUCH later than originally promised. I had already bought another feder after cancelling my order for my extremely tardy BHB order and I no longer wanted the BHB feder. Logan didn't force me to take the blade after I cancelled my order for being exceedingly late. So that is at least some redeeming quality which can commend Logan's character. I would still urge caution when putting your money down for a custom build. Again, he only tried to deliver my sword after I cancelled my order and pulled my money back.
