16:45 I love how watching videos over SSH has a legitimate use. xD
Fascinating talk, it's so cool to get a behind-the-scenes of such a legendary piece of software.

Another program with a good functional UI ruining itself. A UI is an interface, not a billboard, these "modern" designs trade functionality and ease of use for aesthetics.
"No feature removal" "No usage regressions" 1) I'll believe it when I see it (in a stable release, not a nightly) 2) If a feature is there, but is much more difficult to access because you refuse to have a menu bar in "modern" design, it might as well be a removal. Complex options should be shown to the user so they can learn the software and become power users, if you hide them, only people who already know will use them, then your statistics will show not many people use a certain feature, then it goes unmaintained or gets removed in the future. You've had a good 20 year run, don't force your most loyal power users away.

The menu is still present and can be shown by default.
And no, the new design is easier to use, notably since most of the features of the player are accessible quickly. Example: changing audio language is 3 click less than it used to be. And so on...
