Worried Sir Gino fans? MAJBOROUGH lands Irish Arkle in a romp

- Majborough laid down a marker to Sir Gino when destroying the opposition in the Goffs Irish Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown.
Majborough laid down a marker to Sir Gino when destroying the opposition in the Goffs Irish Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown.
While far from foot-perfect, the five-year-old undoubtedly has a huge engine and Willie Mullins will be looking forward to taking on Nicky Henderson’s current favourite for the Arkle at Cheltenham next month.
Majborough won the Triumph Hurdle last season, when Sir Gino was an absentee, and the two now look on course to finally clash on the opening day of this year’s festival, barring accidents.
Mark Walsh was keen to ensure there would be no hiding place on the 8-11 favourite but there was the odd hairy moment on the way round, albeit without him ever looking like he would fall.
With stablemate Ile Atlantique seemingly unable to go the gallop set by his younger companion, only Gordon Elliott’s Touch Me Not was ever within touching distance.
When Walsh asked Majborough to stretch rounding the home turn, the race was over and he went on to win by nine lengths.
Betfair cut the winner to 9-4 from 3-1 for the Arkle and eased Sir Gino to 5-6 from 4-6.
“It was very good, fantastic,” said Mullins.
“I was looking at it from the stands, whereas everyone else was looking at it on the TV. The whole crowd were going ‘ooh and aah’ every time he got close to one but watching it from the side, he never looked in danger, never looked like falling. The camera does lie now and again.”
On his big jump three from home, he added: “That sort of put it to bed. Mark was happy all the time, sitting in the saddle. I never thought that Mark thought there were any problems.
“He pulled him wide coming to the last and did what he had to do.
“That was Plan B. Plan A was to settle in behind one or two but Mark said when the flag went down, he just saw the first fence and took off and he didn’t want to interfere with him.
“I was surprised to see him in the position he was jumping the second, third and fourth, but Mark was very happy that the horse wanted to be there.
“He said he gave him a squeeze coming up to the winning post and there was plenty in the tank, which is a fair thing to say after running at that pace for two-miles-and-one around here.
“He’s always been a standout for me, of his generation. We had Fact To File the year before, this fella this year and Final Demand is now the younger generation coming on.
“They are nice horses to have.”
On the potential Arkle clash with Sir Gino, Mullins commented: “Hopefully we all get there.
“Look at Anzadam during the week, he won so well in Naas and got a little injury, a little bone chip that we have to take out. These things happen, they are fragile.”

Sir Gino won’t be losing any sleep ….
Well Jonny, that's because he is a horse and doesn't even care whether he wins or loses in the Arkle.
@@jackkelsey9326awe forgive poor John he’s not that clever.
To be fair Sir Gino probably didn’t even watch the race xx
Still loyal to Sir Gino but what a mouthwatering race that will be 👌
I'm with you, this horse will be under a lot of pressure from Sir Gino, his jumping will let him down!
Ye all irish horses should be a good race
People really don’t understand how good sir Gino. Probably the best jumper I’ve seen in years. He’s 4 years old amazing. No one challenges him tbh 😂
Sir Gino is 5, same as this winner.
If he jumps like that at Cheltenham he won't get around but he has some engine.
sir gino will smoke him regardless
No not worried at all, Sir Gino is miles better than anything he faced today.
What a performance. Yes there were some novicey jumps but the faster he went the better he jumped. Hopefully he and Sir Gino make it a race to saviour in rhe Arkle even if they are playing for second behind the 30 length winner Ill Antique.
I'm here for the sarcasm and I'm not disappointed 😂.
@@musicmike1972 I'm enjoying the peace and quiet today. Now that Paul has opted for Stateman I expect a weekend of tranquil bliss!
@@frankelforever14 - Likewise and looking forward to the race tomorrow between the different coloured Mullins monsters. It's a corking weekend of sport with the rugby on as well 👍.
His jumping was erratic ,the Sir Gino camp must be full of smiles after that performance 😄
Hope our resident expert tipster didn't go too big ante post on Ile Atlantique
Mr Lewis has a very long way to go before he reaches mediocre!
Another losing tip Martin. You deleted that comment yet mate 😅😂😂😂😂😂
??
I didn’t realise today was Cheltenham? 😂😂😂😂
Where is the content on this new racing channel of his ? Expecting exclusive interviews with everyone at Willies ?
@Martin.Lewis.Racing.Channel won't be going in the arkle, so that's one bet down. If he even goes in the browns you'll get a decent price on the day. So your bets are virtually worthless now
Not another great tip
@@simonchapman5560 - There might be willies on it but none of them answering to the name of Mullins 🤔.
Won't beat Sir Gino.
No chance
We don't know the going in March, it was a good win today, I will stay with Sir Gino, this year's Cheltenham is going to be special we can have and give opinions let's see in March👍
Sir Gino has nothing to worry. The front running technique of Majborough will not work against him at Cheltenham as Ballyburn found out in Kempton. No one touches Sir Gino in Arkle.
Agreed - plus I think Majborough’s jumping is a liability for now, whereas Sir Gino jumps like a stag
Pal I'm seriously worried. im all over sir Gino bet wise and this thing rocks around at 32 mph, 35 around the last bend. Nothing to worry about? They're worried after that trust me
@@darraghsheehan9467OK - SOMETHING to worry about. Somewhat. But what did Majborough beat today? It was a training run, with little pressure from the other horses - and as Mullins said, his jumping was still dodgy. At Cheltenham Sir Gino will have him under guns from the off, and I don’t think Majborough’s jumping will cope. Don’t get me wrong - Majborough may well win a Gold Cup in 2-4 years’ time - but in 2025 your money’s safe. I believe….
@@simonjones309 it was a grade one chase. Nonsense talk. 5th run of it's life.
@@darraghsheehan9467 so tell us, oh Wise One: what did it beat? Why is its trainer wrong about its jumping? Why do you expect Sir Gino to run differently at Cheltenham? Geniuses like you always scatter insults but never offer any specifics. So go on - tell us. I’ll wait.
Nicky in March compared to Willie in March? I'll take Majborough.
Back horses not trainers . Saying Henderson isn't good in march is laughable 😅 . Your probably been watching racing less then 10 years so massive recently bias. I don't think mullins has as many top horses this year imo. Don't shoot me 😅
@TomLeach-dd8cl Go after the person not the merits of their opinion.
This Cheltenham Festival looks to be one of the best in many years. The Arkle, Champion Hurdle, Gold Cup, Triumph Hurdle, QMCC all look mouthwatering races.
Champion hurdle looks a one horse race but like the others.
Impressive.
Still going with sir gino.
Cracking Horse, looking forward to the Arkle, But Sir Gino is a generational talent and should win comfortably.
Need to jump better at Cheltenham but if he does it will be some race with sir gino
Not worried as a better jumper but will be interesting.
He will win the gold cup after Gdc
This is a big beast, reminds me a little bit of the great DENMAN not saying he will be as good but he has that old tough as nails look about him. Id still take sir Gino without a doubt over 2m but this fella could be amazing over further.
Can't wait for Cheltenham this year some monster races
Its his second time over fences he's going to make a few mistakes. I thought it was a great performance but I just think sir gino is the real deal
Both have terrific potential. Let's just enjoy them.
@RandyWatson69
True Randy.. looking forward to chelthenham 😁
More comments about Martin than sir Gino and maj
Nothing to be worried about we will see next weekend when sir gino runs but I'll still be on sir gino
Scared? Well hasn't scared the bookies . Sir gino still 8/11 .
The Henderson record in the arkle is very good so I'm not worried 😉
6 weeks ahead of English fans talking up SG and Irish fans talking down Maj. Looking forward to the showdown.
It's shaping up now and guarantees a race to savour. Whoever wins 2 gd horses
Paul townend looking busy on his mount,,biggest joke ever,,a blatant non trier out for a blow,, should be banned for life
Do you think if you try hard enough you could get Paul done for the assassination of J F Kennedy also?
Majborough has a big engine & brushed aside his small mistakes.
Sir Gino ,, will put so much pressure on him . He jumping fall apart. SIR GINO JUMPS AT SPEED
Majborough is an exceptional horse. Dont make it about a nag not even running
The Arkle is shaping up to be the race of the Cheltenham meeting and maybe Sir Gino or Majborough could (Dare I say) be another Arkle. If it turns in2 a fight with both eyeballing each other after they come off the last fence ? Then Majborough will be too strong in the run in. However I think Sir Gino will put Majborough jumping under an incredible amount of pressure. I'm in the Sir Gino camp but I'm only 60/40 on that.
Wont get around Cheltenham fences easy win for sir gino
Sir William Mullins cursing on tele is the highlight of the season sick of listening to lads asking silly questions
Impressive, but one or two many mistakes that are ok here, but perhaps not coming downhill at Cheltenham.
Time will tell.
I'm still on Sir Gino.
I'd say his engine is there abouts with Sir Gino could be worse, better or par. But can his jumping last out with Sir Gino. Probably not on evidence.
Sir Gino will murder him, dont like his head carriage and he seemed to be drifting slightly in and out all the way and then running down his fences significantly left, he looks a difficult ride, he got an absolute solo in front, and his tendancies will be exagerated on an undulating track like cheltenham.
Absolutely not worried. Sir Gino ran faster than Brighterdaysahead over fences not hurdles and more fences. Maj is overrated
Trust the stewards looking in to Townsends ride on Ill Atlantique
Absolute non-trier. Feel terrible for the knowledge is power disciples who have “lumped” on that horse today😂😂
Personally, I.juat think he was run off his feet.
@@RandyWatson69 ground not even quick though, perhaps run flat but should never be that far back seemingly on previous form. Townend never moved a muscle
Townsend was a joke. Threw the race from the start.
Ile Atlantique was a non trier
Word from the horses mouth as he's watching from his stable after his weetabix tonight, and the word is to lump on me! Sir Gino said he could beat that after a run out at the gallops 🐎
Not very impressive. Off the bridle before Touch Me Not turning in, a horse rated 147... hardly great form, Atlantique didn't turn up. Maj rating of 162 is crazy as it stands. Sir Gino will beat him doing handstands at Cheltenham. Sir Gino form is absolutely rock solid.
Sir Gino worried???😅😅😅absolutely not on this performance Nicky Henderson going to have a great Cheltenham festival 2025 watch out Mr Mullen 😊
Hardly , when you can't even spell Mullin's surname correctly , you Knob -Jockey
Makes it look like a day at the gallops.
Are you blind
Sir gino will walk it
He's a very good horse and fast but he can't jump, Sir gino can jump and he's fast so nope not worried at all
Dont worry, Sir Gino is the GOAT
Good horse but needs to improve on his jumping to trouble sir gino
He be 2nd to sir gino
Gonna be close between him and Sir Gino but Mullins is a way better trainer, totally different class to Sir Sweatalot and if Willie thinks it’s worth going to Cheltenham then bye bye Sir Gino. I think the best bet is to try and get someone to lay you that Henderson sweats more than Sir Gino after the race
Cringe title, not only that, Sir Gino has no fans. Who fan boys a horse. We appreciate them but don’t become fans of them lol, it’s a betting game not a fall in love with a horse game
So funny listening to the gullible punter’s talking about Sir Gino as if they’re going to win a fortune on an odds on shot, I reckon that’s why over 99% of punters bet at a loss.
They could have backed him before he jumped a fence. You obviously don't like people winning. Loads of jealous punters around these days
@@Whatsgoingon0798I doubt he was odds on before he jumped a fence which which makes your reply about backing him odds on as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike.
How much are these mistakes down to the jock? When he asks the horse he is very good, when he doesn't, he often isn't. I am wondering if the jock has more to learn than the horse. It's just too lazy to effectively let the horse make mistakes. Clearly the horse has plenty of ability. Sir Gino is good, but he has only had one run over fences, and beaten a horse running over the wrong trip on a sharp track.
He doesn’t ask the horse when he’s off stride. He will plough the fence and likely unseat that’s why, you have to let the horse correct itself.
Overrated 😂😂
