First of all, thanks a lot for this amazing content. Secondly, I wish we had shops that have half of your skills here in New Zealand, I swear the majority of the workshops here only know how to load the parts canon and fire without any hesitation. I've been a technician for 10 years and only 2 years ago I started learning the way cars should be approached. I went around my area to 5 different auto electricians offering to work 2 days a week for free and no one got back to me. So I decided to recruit myself at the University of TH-cam, channels like SMA, pine hollow, scanner Danner and recently you guys! I've still got a lot to learn, I might even travel overseas to get hands on experience from actual experienced technicians. I only recently started loving this industry and I think I'll enjoy it even more inthe future. Again thank you for sharing knowledge, it's something money can't buy!
If you think it's terrible in New Zealand, it's infinitely worse in developing countries (like Nigeria, where I am). I've learnt more from those channels you mentioned than I did during a partly abortive "training" I paid for; one in which I learned more from personal observation and research than by explanation(s) from someone else (due to the fact that they either don't know or won't tell; luckily, I have an engineering degree so I learnt more than they imagined I did). Next step for me is more hands-on experience. Good luck in your journey.
@@abdul-kabiralegbe5660 Ramadan Mubarak to you and hope you find the right people to guide you. As long as we have the intention to learn, we're on the right track.
thanks to you guys i was able to help a diy auto parts customer head down the right road in diagnosising his 325xi bmw with same issue even after spark plug & coil change out
What an excellent training video! Good pace, excellent in-depth diagnostic process. As your professor correctly states, "follow the data". Also, I really like the excellent wiring diagrams with ability to zoom in (& out) at will. So a great big well done
Are you new ? Today I found your video (3.27.2023 ) Very straight forward and clear.NO analyzing it to dead (like some guys on this channel) I would say as good as DIAGNOSE DAN. And that is 👍
Yeah we have been on the TikTok scene for a bit but wanted to do longer videos so here we are. Just started last week so it will take some time to get to Dan’s level of editing. Haha. But some of our guys are friends with him. Great guy! Thanks for watching!
I have watched quite a few of your videos and really like your approach with the "test don't guess". seeing this persons trunk full of parts....really sends the message. Thanks so much !!
Following the data and sticking to the fundamentals is key in diagnostics, IMO. Something that I also tend to do when I come across a vehicle such as this, I do a quick overview of what's been done already. I don't try to undermine anyone, but I will do a quick go over of any connections, splices, things of that nature. Great process and great video guys!
If mechanics had to personally pay for the parts which they put on a vehicle which did not resolve the problem, perhaps they would think twice before throwing stuff on the wall. Appreciate these kinds of videos and sharing the thought process for making a correct diagnosis.
To that mentality, if customers wanted to pay for a fair diagnosis every time, rather the standard 1 hour then a solution must be provided there would be less throwing parts at it. This is a special case where the customer or another shop damaged a pin and is not typical for most cars. Usually most cars have common failure points and a experienced technician can come up with a most likely cause. If technicians had Crystal balls they definitely be wrenching!
@@joshuagabbard2998 The typical BMW owner does not wrench on their cars so suspect the damage was caused by a well-paid BMW wrench turner. The shame of it is, that even with all the diagnostic tools available to mechanics today, few mechanics seem to be well versed in making the correct call in a timely manner. As to "wanted to pay for a fair diagnosis every time..." here are two comments. What is a "fair diagnosis"? First, a mechanic either makes a correct diagnosis or an incorrect diagnosis. It is black and white. Problem is resolved or it isn't. Second, the customer is charged regardless. Whether it took 10 minutes or X hours. Point is the vehicle owner always pays, for time and for parts even when those replaced parts were not providing the solution. The evidence for this last statement is seen in the trunk of this customer's car, at around 45 seconds into this valuable video. There may be some locations that will cut the customer a break on a very difficult outlier diagnosis and solution, but that is as rare as honest and competent repair technicians. Unfortunately, this applies to other trades as well, not just those in the automotive repair business.
You said Voltage flows and that is not the case; minor point I know. Current is the item that flows and as it does it develops a Voltage drop across any load type device it travels through. A source Voltage is the Potential Energy that pushes the current through a closed loop. You presentation is excellent. Why folks use the parts cannon beats me. TEST DON'T GUESS and it is obvious that this is what you do. Two thumbs up!
Great video! This is the second video I watched today where modules were replaced to try and fix a no start condition. In both cases pins were damaged during installation and were the cause of the issue. You have a very neat and clean shop. Love the uniforms. Very professional operation.
That was fantastic! You explained with great clarity. When I was retiring it was a ECM and body module and ABS, Traction, What a change, thank you. Loving you guys videos....Don
I’m enjoying your channel…I do Corvette diagnostics in Southwest Florida and it’s great to see a shop use a scope especially the ATS…my Pico is my best friend…I see you’re in southeast Georgia so if I can I’ll send owners your way that are a little too far from me !!
It's pretty common for a lot of auto repair shops throw the parts cannon at a car and it still doesn't work and they charge you a bunch of money to not fix the problem. It's a professional auto repair that will take the time to actually do the tests. And fix it
Great diagnosis. You folks do the job right. To bad this guy spent so much money replacing modules. He could have saved money and head aches coming to you and paying you instead.
Just found your channel a couple days ago, this is the second video I was interested in, I LOVE IT, exactly what a car repair channel should look like, will keep an eye to see what other nice options you will be offering in the future videos and something that is not normal that you might have a little extra time to offer is, are there any recalls or TSBs for the particular repair that you are doing for us, thank for the scanner, scope, schematic, maybe at times you can show some Service Info, these are what I call the 4 S's and are the most important, I have a few more S's but don't expect to see them as much. You have a new sub'r to the channel, thanks for being very good at what you do, do you have any previous channels that we can go look at, cheers. ONE suggestion, could you put the vehicle info at the beginning of the title of the video as opposed to in the description, ie: BMW 328i 2007 2.8L etc, etc please?
This was great info and logical step by step. Now that being said, how do you know what is fair to charge for something like this, not in labor hours, but actual $$, Before you asked him for approval? You and I know how difficult it can be for a customer to wrap their heads around what they are paying for. Thanks for showing the value in testing
Hey Andrew i really enjoyed this video, you broke the system down very percisely. The wiring schematic as you shown the way current should have been flowing. Nice diag. keep up the great work.
They think it's like fixing Christmas lights . But they may have introduced more issues with defective parts . And the bent pin would never be fixed with even more parts . Great diagnosis starting with the basics from the ground ( no pun intended ) up .
If this is the car I think it is then I’ll be honest I was lost when I looked at it, I was also new to bmw in general (not a good excuse) but I’m loving watching you guys because I’m learning myself even though I have experience I always want to learn more. I also did not have a diagram with me or anything other than my scan tool so I was in the dark until going to work. But I’m glad you guys fixed it . I’m gonna have to come meet y’all one day!
Not sure of everything you’re talking about but we are all always learning! It’s definitely difficult to diagnose something like this (actually probably impossible without guessing) without the resources that we have. Definitely come by and say hey some day!
BMW uses both Type A and Type B ISO relays. (The style that was used in this video) Type A has reversed 30 and 1 of the control terminals (85 or 86). I have not found another manufacture that has ever used the Type A relays. In my experience everyone else uses Type B and they are standardized. And to be clear, BMW uses both styles. A good example of this is the light green relay they used for their fuel pumps prior to the fuel pump modules. Some of the other colored relays BMW used were Type A also. When in doubt, always look up service info as Royalty Auto mentioned.
Now that is something that basic troubleshooting techniques would have found and the car owner would not have had to waste money on that boatload of modules.
WELL DONE ,,, I LIKE THE WAY YOU GUYS FOLLOW THE DATA I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THAT AND THIS CHANNEL . Really loving these more in depth videos. The tiktok channel has been great but this is even better. As a tech I never stop learning and I really like the way you guys do electrical diag, something I'm working on being better at. I think a good video idea would be what you guys think are the best starter tools are for electrical. Best starter(affordable) scope, multimeter, favorite scan tools etc. Maybe what tools are good for more advanced techs as well? Thanks guys!!
pin didn't bend it self . . customer should declare what component he missed with .. other work shop would make it worse by starting replacing unnecessary components or damaging more components .
How has no-one mentioned the 30A fuse in place of a 20A on that fuel pump circuit? At 8:35, you can see that both Early Production F40 fuse and Late Production F88 fuse are labeled as 20A in the wiring diagram. :D
Was looking for a comment on this and sadly I don't even see RAS reaction to it. I can't argue with results and fuses did look factory to me so there's that BUT I would expect informational video to have no stone unturned.
I'm trying to get into using my scope more often, but with repairs like this i just can't see the benefit. What am I missing? A simple test light would have lead you straight there, and been much quicker, would it not? Somebody tell me what I'm missing.
Piercing wires under hood, and inside cab though not preferred is acceptable....but under vehicle,or under carpet is bad news and should be avoided even if u seal it imo.......
Did you watch the whole video? We discussed how some of the tests could have been performed with other tools, but the scope is easy for us to use and always ready at our shop. Maybe you didn’t get to that part of the video.
Yeah TH-cam takes their time uploading HD video some times. I thought something was wrong with the videos I uploaded at first. They are streaming in HD now.
