My dad bought a tv in 1953 and Mr. Peepers was one of the first shows I ever watched.. I was 5 years old. I became a tv addict after that!

There's a local, low power digital sub-station station where I live that actually plays this show. I was shocked when I saw a VERY young Tony Randall playing Mr. Peepers friend and fellow teacher.

I must have been watching from the womb. Somehow have a recollection of this. Likely reruns years later. Mr. Cox was in a great episode of I Spy worthy of looking up.

What is shocking to see with this and other shows of the era is the time of program content , here 25.54 of a 30 minute tv show ! Half hour sitcoms today must have about 18:00 minutes or less of content the rest filled with ads ! Mr. Peepers was great in it's time !

This show should be on Netflix for sure...or Amazon or Hulu or some other outlet. Very interesting TV program.

The reason it isn't on Netflix is probably because it was originally televised live, and the only recordings of it are on kinescope, a very inferior process before video tape. To make it watchable, a lot of computerized video enhancement has to be done, such as was done on the old Jackie Gleason Show kinescopes to create "The Honeymooners: the Lost Episodes." Some distribution company was willing to contract with the Gleason estate and spend the money required for technical enhancement because "The Honeymooners" was a classic series, well-remembered for its 39 filmed episodes. But who knew from "Mr. Peepers"?
For the record, Wally Cox's principal co-star on the series was Tony Randall. The theme tune was by Bernie Green and His Orchestra. Green wrote a lot of music for radio and television, and released two or three LPs, one of which was a PR tie-in with MAD Magazine called "Musically MAD." (The only CD I know of this was released by BMG Music of Spain!) Green's novelty instrumentals are at least on a par with Raymond Scott's, and I think he deserves a revival similar to what Scott is enjoying.

Originally telecast on July 3, 1952, as a summer replacement on NBC's Thursday night schedule at 9:30pm(et). When Ford began sponsoring "FORD THEATER" in that time period in October, "MISTER PEEPERS" appeared to be cancelled for good. But after the abrupt cancellation of "DOC CORKLE" on Sunday nights after only three weeks, sponsor Reynolds Metals needed another program to fill the time. "MISTER PEEPERS" was quickly resurrected, and it stayed on the air through 1955....

Wally passed away in 1973. At that time, a lot of programs we get to view today were believed lost, destroyed or non-existent. From what I've read, the kinescopes of "Mr. Peepers" were a wreck when they were discovered. The folks at UCLA's Film and Television Archives did an outstanding job of restoring them. They deserve all the credit.

Since there are revivals of old TV shows at times (mostly game shows), this would be a good-enough show for a revival. Of course, it would have to be modernized but it could make it. Since most of the cast has passed, Pixar may be able to work with it by voice content with as close to the original cast as possible.
