Action fleet was amazing. Everything cost effective. Could get a bunch of ships and characters for low cost. I played with them all the time. Basically the ships were the action figure size and the figures were accessories for the ships. Playset could be large compared to the humans as they should be. It worked really really well. Most of the action fleet figures were statis pilots but some had guns and weapons and those were the figures that got more play value. Those were usually in sets with other more action oriented mini figures.
I personally preferred smaller figures like army men and lego minifigures, but I think that comes down to fundamentally different styles of play. My play style focused far more on building and composing scenes that represented locations I was imagining, rather than dynamically moving figures around as part of a specific scenario. The smaller figures allowed me to depict larger-scale scenes in the same amount of space (for example, a full city rather than just one building). With the larger, standard-sized figures, there was always an upper limit to the scale of what I could depict.
I had ignored these until they had nearly gone, I just picked up all the OT ships I wanted for about 70% off.. absolutely agree the display stand would make this much better.
Collectors with a little bit of building skills could in fact make their own display stands for these vehicles. Honestly it is something I'm thinking about doing.
Really love this line. Definitely wish there was a display stand for them though. I Also wish that they would make a star destroyer but I don’t know how big it would be and how much it would cost.

I don’t know Michael, I think the inclusion of figures is really awesome. Although I agree with the frustrations about seating them correctly or the constant rattling, the inclusion of figures is a nice option to have when playing with these. You can look inside the cockpits and see a little Luke Skywalker or Han Solo flying, which is pretty cool in my opinion. Otherwise, you could just buy smaller scale models if you really don’t care about the figures; but i really think that’s the whole point about Jazwares Micro Squadrons. The figures are the pièce of résistance.
I concur. I do not recall toys being that accurate or allowing for contoured sitting even as a child. Sure that could do more, but at this price range I think it is a solid. Sounds like just Nick picks.
I agree too. I always felt the 3.75" vehicles were compromised around the figures themselves (for example the Kenner X-Wing is too short to scale). With these, its the figures that are compromised around, with the vehicles receiving more top billing. I am more into ships than figures though. @@saturncrush
The Falcon, LAAT gunship and AAT tanks are probably my favorites of this line so far but I can’t wait to pick up an AT-AT when they become readily available.
I bought a bunch of Galoob Action Fleet way back when to use with the West End Games' Star Wars Miniatures Battles game. At a convention I used the Action Fleet Imperial Shuttle as a terrain centerpiece. Old school!
I actually played with Micro Machine and Action Fleet stuff when I was a kid in the late 90's, early 00's. It was great because it allowed stuff like Godzilla, Gundam, Zoids, Pokemon and Digimon to get involved in play. There was even Micro scaled Digimon playsets at that time, and I really regret having never got one of those as it was one of the only way to get figures of the actual human characters from the television series. There were also Action Fleet Starship Trooper toys, and Micro Machines Aliens and Predator toys. You could literally have Gundams and Digimon fighting hoards of the Bugs in tatooine for example, as absurd as that may seem. We 90's kids didn't get much for the 1/18 scale outside of Star Wars, and a GI Joe revival that no other millennial seemed to care about and some other odd lines such as Trend Masters Godzilla line for a movie that was hated by most for decades to come. The micro scale offered a huge opportunity for some wild as hell times, and it was great. Nothing was really properly scaled to each other, so it was more about just using what you had and getting things close enough, it didn't require too much imagination. The Yavin IV base and Death Star play-sets were a center focus of the conflicts between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon on the living room and bedroom floors of my house back in 2001-2002. Micro Galaxy Squadron is kind of neat in a nostalgic way, but Jazwares is procucing both it's pseudo Action Fleet and Micro Machine toys in a time when there's not a lot else for them to interact with. It feels like it's just Star Wars and normal Earth cars, maybe some non-transforming Transformers Micro Machines (which seems oxymoronic to me) and I doubt this is as good of an opportunity for play for the current generation of children like it was in the 80's all the way up to the mid '00s and I wonder if that's something they'd even be interested in. It pains me to think that the kind of fun I had as a kid is inaccessible and possibly considered undesirable for all other generations.
Great review and you’re spot-on with the praises and the criticisms. Don’t forget the blind pack offerings as well, because that random crap irks me. And the figures fall off the bikes and vehicles. My advice, get some Blu-tac poster putty and those figures can be seated better.
I started collecting these also, but you hit all the points I started thinking about and I just started collecting he Hot Wheels Select Starship line instead. They are mostly diecast with great display stands for your desk and I dont need tiny figures to have to go inside them. Thanks for the video Michael.
Honestly some do have flight stands. As a ship collector, I’m just happy for some variety and stuff to buy. To me the figures are display accessories, as I’m too buy swooshing the ships. I think that if they added a Bandai display plug/hole, I’d be happy. I suspect there is a farm Luke speeder in our future, to make the proper falcon crew.
The Luke landspeeder is coming, but I heard that’ll be a blind box rare figure. Oddly enough there does exist a falcon toy with the farm luke figure instead of obi wan, it’s called the Death Star escape I think and also comes with 2 tie fighters
for me personally. the micro's are for the shelves I keep little collectibles on. I have one xwing diecast mini. one falcon mini. one snowspeeder ornament. my 3 favorites from the movies
I still have all my Action fleet. I bought Jazwares Falcon as I never bought the AF version. I don't mind the scale issue, The TIE's look great together Vaders, Interceptor and bomber. The rebels ships all look ok together too. It's the walkers and Sandcrawler that let Action Fleet down. I see Jazwares has a large AT-AT coming soon. I'm up for that!
I absolutely LOVED the Micro Collection as a kid!! I think that's where Michael and I are different; where he was an action figure kid, I was a vehicle kid. Jaswares selection looks great! Not perfect, but really good!! I'd be proud to display them (if they had decent stands!!)
I like them for hanging display. I made a mobile that includes Luke's X-Wing, Darth Vader's TIE Interceptor, and two TIE fighers, in the formation of the chase scene from the Death Star attack. They look cool displayed in this way. I have a Millenium Falcon that I need to hang coming in from the side and behind the Empire's formation.
I got some of these for Christmas. Falcon, Slave One, Jedi Starfighter. I decided there and then to keep them boxed, despite itching to fire up the Falcon's engines. They look good in my Star Wars cabinet, but just wouldn't work freestanding. I also bought myself Bo Katan's ship, because frankly, it's the best looking ship since the Falcon and I have that as a desk ornament and Bo can stay where she is, with the canopy closed.
I started collecting these last year and i learned something very quickly. If you want a farm boy luke you have to buy a special set that is a wal mart exclusive.
Thank you for taking a look at these, I’ve been very careful around them, they look tempting, and the trio of the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and Falcon is what almost sold me, but I needed to see them out of the box like this.
Yes...I debated... Seeing that I've cut back on Collecting anyway period period and I don't Or never did collect much Star Wars Anyway, since the new movies.... But the trio sold me on this.
Great points made here. Imo I think Jazwares was trying to strike a happy medium with satisfying both the younger crowd who want to play with these and the older collectors who just want to display them. It's pretty clear this line is vehicle focused, which is why only vehicles have play features, why only vehicles are scaled up/down but figures are unchanged, and why they haven't released any accessories for the figures themselves. If you look at the new Imperial Shuttle, the doors are too short that the figures can't stand under them, even with how tiny the figures are already. They scaled down the Shuttle so that it's small enough to collect (more room for you to buy more), but big enough that it doesn't look out of place with the rest of the line. Despite the figures being more of an accessory to the vehicles rather than actual playable figures, I think the line serves it's purpose. We already have 2 different scales for figures (Black Series/The Vintage Collection) and MGS fills in the vehicle void. It's small enough to prevent space concerns, lends itself to being more affordable, but is still full of great sculpt and detail. I do agree that Jazwares totally should have included display stands. That's a glaring flaw for sure.
jazzwares say they are working on some of these issues. I believe that they said they would be including stands with more ships in the future. In some interviews it seemed like they where rushing to put out the first wave. you can tell they have worked on quality of the newer waves of ships. for example Poes X-wing now properly locks the wings in position. Id definetly say let them put out another few waves to see how they have progressed since wave one. so far I Really enjoy this Line but I do agree there are some questionable choices in these designs.
The Star Wars X-Wing tabletop miniature strategy game has spaceships that are nice looking, to scale, and come with stands. I have the Falcon, the Ghost, the Phantom, and the RazorCrest. They are pricier than the cheap toys like the HotWheels ships, but the level of detail matches the price. They also have a separate line for capital ships.
I really like this line. There is a great variety of vehicles and I'm excited to see what else is coming. However, what bothers me the most about this line is the blind box micro vehicles. It's one thing to get more than one Scout Trooper with Speeder Bike, but what am I going to do with two Ahsoka Tanos?
I already had plenty of Transformers, He-Man and GI Joe so my parents refused to buy me any 3 3/4 Star Wars stuff, but they did get me the Micro stuff though. The little playsets were pretty damn cool, but play with the figures was limited obviously. I did get a ton of mileage out of the TIE Fighter and X-Wing that "blew up". I especially loved the battle damage stickers.
I think another disappointing aspect of this line is the concept of "chase" vehicles. I was mostly okay with these being niche repaints of normally available vehicles, but some vehicles like Moff Gideon's Tie and General Grievous' Starfighter (along with store exclusives like the Bad Batch Marauder Shuttle and upcoming AT-AT Walker) are harder to get and can only really be found online at outrageous premiums
The X-wing sorely needed the display stand. Just resting the X-wing in its landing gear does not allow for the S-foils to be extended and showing us the attack configuration. My favorite so far is the Slave I, it displays really nice. What I am eagerly waiting for are: (in order of favorites) - B-Wing - Y-Wing - Tie Interceptor - Imperial Shuttle Hopefully the B-wing will be a monster of a ship as it is supposed to be.
Michael, excellent video as always. Though, I hope you take a look at the Slave 1 as you missed that there is indeed a rear door that opens straight in front of the ramp. So you can access the cargo hold from both the side and the rear via the sliding ramp. Greetings from Puerto Rico!
Bro I loved them in the 90s. Having full ass play sets were far superior then massive ones that cost way too much. More bang for your buck. Especially living in a trailer. I had so many pieces I wish I still had.
I get the lure for the "micro" sets and vehicles. As a kid you didn't always get the protagonist and antagonist figs and vehicles, so it made collecting them 100 times easier. Also if you wanted a small fleet of X-Wings or Ties it was easily better to convince mom and pop to pick them up in mirco form. . . But yeah if you're gonna go in, go in hard and come back with a winner. The micro figures NEED 5POA at least, snug yet accessible cockpits and compartments to play in/with. All the builds need to be secure and durable across the board. And anything that has the capacity to be displayed on desks or stored on shelves/cabinets, NEEDS to have a display stand of some sort. . . THAT goes without saying!!! Great video!!!
The fact that the models don't have a display stand is a bit annoying, but would it be advisable to leave them packed up? Come on... I don't think it's all that bad. There are plenty of cheap acrylic stands out there that you can use for display.
I appreciate showing the comparison between these and the Galoob figures and these. I feel like, if yod been into that collection, they could go right along with these. But, that being said, I never really got into the micros. I did get the MicroMachine ships, but that was because I was playing the RPG and used them for combat minis. But now that the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game is out, well, I don't need a substitute. I'm just rambling. Great video as always.
I very much agree on the limitations of the scale, but I think the need for this line is more from TVC’s unwillingness to produce mainline vehicles and sets that are cost effective- in this line, the biggest ticket items are all under $100! It’s really cool to own vehicles that are pretty close to in scale with their figures when I know the TVC and LEGO offerings will often be out of budget (especially for things like the Falcon) and TBS is lucky to get one speeder bike in the line every 3 years
I think in the end it really depends on your experience..I actually preferred the action fleet scale and have pretty much the entire line including the star ship troopers and aliens ... Though what me and my friends did to have sprawling battle is make a dice game using the action fleet vehicle and figures. I am also collecting the jazwares line and will say that as each series is being released they are making large improvements. The Micro Galaxy AT-AT walker is probably the best toy version I have owned.
No joke, my kid let me know you had a New video up before I even saw a notification. He’s all over the micro SW line since it came out. Must be genetic because I was all about the 90’s Action Fleet. Side note: I checked the kiddo’s X Wing and the R2 is secure when we turn it upside down, and there is a slight wiggle from with the fuselage and wings. I’ll take a guess that there random QC issues that will probably be a hit/miss situation. Still, stinks to get a vehicle that’s janky right out of the package. But yeah, the stands for the vehicles would be a huge addition for the line. I definitely employed the Action Fleet stands with my setup back in the day. Younger folks did use them!
All great points. I am limiting myself to OT ships (so far). To solve the display issue, I'm going to hang them from the ceiling. Not sure what I'll do with the recently announced AT-AT... I mean I won't hang it from the ceiling lol but it will be my first non ship purchase. Overall I like them.
Farmboy Luke comes with the Walmart Online "Escape the Death Star Battle Pack" which packages the Millennium Falcon and two TIE Fighters and includes Han, Leia, Luke, Chewie and two TIE Pilots.
I’ve decided to display the Micro Galaxy Falcon with the vehicles from hallmarks light up and movie sound ornaments from keepsake storytellers. -Good match. -the Disneyland neighbor
Great video RetroBlasting I saw these at Target and Walmart and passed them up. I agree that they should of came with stands. Damn they really missed the mark, as for the mini figures could use some improvement. You guys rock!!!
I've been an avid collector of these for a bit, as well as many other miniature lines in my time of collecting, and while I do love and understand the benefits of the larger, more articulate lines like 3 3/4 inch, I've always got a soft spot for these kinds of ships. I do quite agree with the points of the landing gear and display stands, but while I understand the unappealing state of the mini pilots for the various starships, I felt they were really only meant to be bonus parts to simply put in the ship (if I wanted both a feature-filled starship and a posable figure, I'd just go with 3 3/4 inch). On top of that, the mini size was something that not only saved me and, as child, my mum some money, but I oddly preferred the mini scale rather than the mainstay 3 3/4, even with their limitations. There's something about the smaller size and the larger play area that I really like about these things. All in all, I don't regret getting them for my collection and swooshing habits. Hell, they fit in with those Snap Ships I've gotten a while back and, albeit awkwardly, the Lightyear hyperspeed miniatures.
Your analysis is very well thought out and detailed. You are 100% correct - the Falcon should have had farmboy Luke not Leia. I bought the Falcon & Vader Tie fighter bc they look like the 2 best to me. I took them out of the box but left the figures in packaging in storage. I didn’t buy the entire line - I just wanted a taste. Obviously I use them as display pieces not toys.
Slave 1's scale is a bit over the map but I am inclined to think its scaled correctly here. The original toy and the matte painting in Empire are under scaled, call it a retcon maybe but the larger size in the Mandalorean and bobf seems to fit with this scale with the falcon.
I own the X-Wing, and it's possibly one of the better Star Wars toys out there. Plus, It's by Jazwares so I feel no guilt about buying it. Bizarrely, I have none of the issues you're having on my copy of the Micro Galaxy X-Wing and I have no Idea why.
I agree that display stands would have taken this line up a notch. I still love having a bunch of iconic Star Wars ships in scale with each other. Plus at this smaller size, there’s room for a bunch on my shelf
that x-wing looks fucking awesome , the only thing preventing me from buying it was that i had the galoob one , however cleaning it all the canons broke , snapped cleanly at the mid section ( i guess 25 Year old plastic its too brittle) so if they release an interceptor on scale with the x-wing , i know where are going like 38 of my hard earned moneys...
Despite its limitations, Action Fleet was the most fun i'd had with Star Wars since Kenner. It's primarily what got me back into toy collecting as an adult. The Jazwares stuff is ok, but somehow lacks the charm and the plastic feels weird, like a Hallmark Christmas tree ornament.
I'll hang on to my galoob ships I bought years ago. The look cool in the window box, and it was the affordable way for me to get a lot of the SW vehicles I didn't have otherwise. The Jazwares ships did catch my eye, but I've passed on them.
As a kid, I was always looking for higher quality figures or toys just because I was detail oriented. Plus what kid doesn’t want to feel like an adult collector? The display stand argument is totally valid bro I hate that kids toys get shafted on quality so much
I still have a lot of my Galoob Action Fleet line because I really liked it. I wonder if some of the larger Jazwares vehicles might blend with my Galoob versions of the fighters? Might be worth picking one up to see. . .
The flight stand thing is even more baffling because the blindboxed speeder bikes all have them, even designed with just enough area to hold and swoosh them with. Also for some reason Asajj Ventress has a figure with two lightsabers and nobody else has anything. The only real thing from this line I have besides the blindboxes is the AT-ST which is fun to take pictures of.... but only comes with one driver and isnt really designed to have 2 side by side even if it did have another one. Hope the line lasts long enough to get better and put out some real obscure stuff.
Long before Kenner’s micro collection there was another line of die-cast metal and plastic toy vehicles that were popular when the first two movies came out (‘78-‘81?). I cannot recall who made them. I do know the line was pretty extensive. I had the Falcon, an X-Wing, a Tie Fighter, and a Star Destroyer. The scale was all over the place, but I didn’t care. They were fun to play with and had some nice detail for the time. Later I had the micro collection X-Wing, and Tie Fighter, and loved them for their detail a playability. The full size vehicles were nice, but I simply didn’t have room for them. These new toys have caught my eye, and I have thought of getting a few… But I’m glad you beat me to it! I think we are on the same page on their pros and cons!
I believe you’re talking about the kenner diecast ship line; I have a falcon, Slave I, y-wing, star destroyer, all from that lineup. Some, like Slave I, were itty bitty, while others were about action fleet-sized.
There is a hidden feature for the Falcon. If you repeatedly hit the lights peed button a few times, it will make the hyperdrive malfunction noise.
I really like those nice attention to details!

The Falcon, LAAT gunship and AAT tanks are probably my favorites of this line so far but I can’t wait to pick up an AT-AT when they become readily available.
Did you forget the Kenner/Palitoy die cast vehicles from the late 70s?
Those were more like Matchbox/Corgi/Hot Wheels.
@3:53
I love looking at that display of the three Milennium Falcons
As a builder of 1/72 Bandai Star Wars Model Kits, I welcome this series. Really goes well with what I own already.
Great review and you’re spot-on with the praises and the criticisms. Don’t forget the blind pack offerings as well, because that random crap irks me. And the figures fall off the bikes and vehicles. My advice, get some Blu-tac poster putty and those figures can be seated better.
I love the blue-tac idea!
@@RandomStuffGarage619 3M sells it as white poster putty too. It won’t harm the figures and you don’t even see it when they’re sitting on it.
Great review my friend! I have seen these available to buy but have yet to pick one up!
for me personally. the micro's are for the shelves I keep little collectibles on.
The AT-AT one of this series is really good. It’s not only properly scaled, but has a ton of inner detailing and multiple levels.
Thank you for your honet opinion. Micro was my thing in the '80's cus of scale. Nice to know they still havn;t figured it out.
That's a glaring flaw for sure.
i brought these because they scaled with diaclone figures lmao
jazzwares say they are working on some of these issues.
These are definitely cool but pricey. I will just stick with the Galoob Action Fleets
I had no idea these micro vehicles came back.
The slave one ramp door does open, pull the ramp out, open the side door, and push on the ramp door from the interior, it'll open.
That’s a fair assessment.
The X-wing sorely needed the display stand. Just resting the X-wing in its landing gear does not allow for the S-foils to be extended and showing us the attack configuration.
My favorite so far is the Slave I, it displays really nice.
What I am eagerly waiting for are: (in order of favorites)
- B-Wing
- Y-Wing
- Tie Interceptor
- Imperial Shuttle
Hopefully the B-wing will be a monster of a ship as it is supposed to be.
Loved the micromachines and the action fleet when they hit the shelves in 1995
Michael, excellent video as always.
Great informative video
Thank you
This is like the The Vintage Collection except vehicles with their own repaints and variants. I love it.
Wow, I really thought they came with stands. That's, as you said, a missed opportunity. Oh well.
Really fun to watch this, I loved micro machines, these remind me of them. Great video! Always excited to see what's up next!
But now that the
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game is out, well, I don't need a substitute.
I'm just rambling. Great video as always.
Great video as always. I completely agree on the display stands. Should have been included. I picked up the Falcon.
I very much agree on the limitations of the scale, but I think the need for this line is more from TVC’s unwillingness to produce mainline vehicles and sets that are cost effective- in this line, the biggest ticket items are all under $100! It’s really cool to own vehicles that are pretty close to in scale with their figures when I know the TVC and LEGO offerings will often be out of budget (especially for things like the Falcon) and TBS is lucky to get one speeder bike in the line every 3 years
I like the MISSION FLEET. The figures are pretty good for that scale.
i only have a couple of the kenner vintage but they have grown on me... now that i don't "play" with them. they do display nicely now!
I remember the action fleet ships... you could get those at toys stores in the mall.
that Milennium Falcons is a nice upgrade from Action Fleet Milennium Falcons
Great video.
No joke, my kid let me know you had a
New video up before I even saw a notification.
The Action Fleet display stands even had a slot in the front for storing/displaying the figures.
I really like the new micro vehicles, easy to display on a shelf with good detail. I’m not really looking to do more then well just admire them.
My university housemate had the old galoob ones.i was so jealous
"Or just leave them in the box! Radical!" -SNL Star Wars toys skit
sounds like an opportunity for someone to do a kickstarter for display stands for these.
I'd like to see Playmobile Star Wars but not sure if it can ever happen as Lego has them in their corner.
I'm a big fan of the line. I'm by no means a completionisy but I'm happy to pick up my favorite Star Wars ships for a decent price.
Might be worth picking one up to see. . .
long time fan of your channel keep up the good work friend.
I understand your pain. The best way to display out of box is to hang on a mobile with a space or death Star print background
Do you work for Hasbro? If you like display stands so much get Bandai models. I put double-sided tapes on their ass to keep them in the seats.
Dude, I cant wait to see a video where a modern toy line has you pumped! One Day!
I can't wait to see the day when you don't hide behind a sock puppet user name of gobbledygook.
