This exhibition displays 233 pieces (sets) of artworks made of precious metals and gems, covering architectural decorations, ritual instruments, eating utensils, stationery, and other categories, telling the history and culture of the Himalayas from the 17th to the 20th century. Folk customs and spiritual beliefs of local people.
The metal craft in the Himalayas has a long history. It began to develop as early as 2000 years ago. It was very mature in the 17th and 20th centuries. The variety of utensils is rich and the overall style is famous for its exquisite and complex style. During this period, there also appeared an official workshop-"Xueduibai", which means "Ruyi Jixiang Industrial Institute", representing the highest level of metal processing in Tibet.
In the past, when people migrated as nomads, they usually exchanged the wealth accumulated by the whole family, or even several generations, into jewelry and daily necessities for carrying with them. These artifacts carry the memories and emotions of their lives, as well as their pious and beautiful wishes.
