Before we proceed: this lip shade is giving Morticia Adams and I mean this as a top compliment. Also, I'm always here for declaring fall early.
Tell us what lipstick brand and color please 😊
Definitely giving a fall vibe with the makeup and dark top. Manifest that fall weather! So done with summer!
It’s been the worst summer here. Heatwaves or lots of rain. No in between I’m so over it 😭
i love the idea of picking the red ones from the jar for september and octuber
The dark red lipstick REALLY works for you! Your black hair and pale skin make it pop and don't worry, you don't look as pale as you think. Definite fall vibes tho with the lip color and the lighting, love it!
The make up and the top are GIVING fall 🎃🍂
The cover of “Spell Shop” is so beautiful. So many little hidden things. The cat on the stairs has wings! 😊
I loved Far from the Madding Crowd. I read it in my late teens and am 62 now and still remember the effect it had on me. Hope you enjoy xx
ONE OF MY FAVORITE CLASSICS EVER!!! ❤❤❤
I love Gone Girl! My favorite thriller of all time. This book is such an icon
Yes Gone Girl was soo good 👍 I loved it. I liked the movie too, suspenseful
Same! My all-time fave thriller too❤
Noooo not another Freida McFadden book don't do yourself the disservice lmao
It’s on my shelf so I have to! I’ll DNF if it’s too bad lol
@@BookswithEmilyFoxI’m sure you will DNF it 😂
It is a bit of a page turner. But one of the main characters suffers from the trope of having a super high IQ but makes ENDLESS stupid mistakes and also there are too many twists to take the ending seriously. Just very stupid. You will be so angry that you wasted your time on this 😆@@BookswithEmilyFox
@@BookswithEmilyFoxplease finish it cause the end is ridiculous. Would love to hear you complain about it 😂
Never Lie was good! I understand not liking McFadden books because honestly, the only McFadden book I’ve liked from the four I’ve read so far is Never Lie. It’s not all that much but this book was a decent one.
Elizabeth George’s books are just awesome.
You're giving witchy vibes with this colour lipstick and top plus the black hair 💄👍
I was surprised by how much I liked Gone Girl. The thematic elements resonated with me, and the ending made me cackle-snort.
YES! I've been waiting for fall all summer. Thank you for a fall video. ❤❤ Great idea to start picking out that fall tbr right now. Maybe I'll even throw a fall scented candle on while I do it to trick myself. 😁 Also - you look stunning!!
Best of luck with your September TBR Emily- I've also got First Lie Wins on my September TBR.
Loving the Morticia vibe. PERFECT for the season :D
Thank you!
You and your bookshelves are both so beautiful!
I will again recommend Camilla Lackberg for detective novels. I'm listening to the Fjallbacka series. There is some misogyny from a secondary character but it's clear no one takes him seriously and the main characters are good and likeable. The characters also learn and grow (and it's clear it's the author's intent to show this). There is some heavy material in the crimes but the character arcs and interactions are lighter and provide balance. They aren't the shortest or fastest moving books but they are kind of a comfort listen to me where a bit of length can be nice.
Also Ann Cleeves and the Vera Stanhope books. Vera sometimes gets underestimated as a female detective (that isn't conventionally attractive either) but she uses that to delightful advantage. There's also the Falkland series which I liked at first but a later book made me very angry.
i’m on my vacation in Turkey enjoying summer and i see Emily’s fall video??? WHAT 😂
It got cold, I got a little excited 😅
@@BookswithEmilyFox its okay, autumn is my favorite season i will forgive you just this once hahaha
Curious about the nonfiction on nurses and midwives... And agree that I never stop being angry about how women are "treated" (or not) in healthcare, especially as a nurse myself. I feel the vibe for fall too (although it is now september! 😂)!
Obsessedddd with this makeup look
I am reading gone girl right now! I wanna see what all the hype is about too!😂 I am very behind.
Hey! Another 1000 subscribers! Congrats! Let's boost the algorithm! 😁
Starter Villian had me cackling! Hope you enjoy it.
🤞🤞
T Kingfisher is my favorite author and her books are generally dark/horror spins on fairy tale retellings or adult fantasy with horror elements. Highly recommend The Saint of Steel series in particular!
Saint of Steel is EVERYTHING ❤ for some reason it’s overlooked but it so good
Absolutely Loved the first Saint of Steel book, but the following ones for me all had some things I didn't like. But I am fully invested in the story and can't wait for the rest of the books! btw, the Clockwork duology is also good and it is sort of a prequel.
I really enjoyed Far From the Madding Crowd! It’s my favourite Hardy. This year I am determined to actually read Dracula in October. 🧛♂️
I’ve never tried it, I need to know if it’s worth it!
Loved what moves the dead
BEAUTIFUL SEPTEMBER TBR! Love it wish you good luck with all ur readings 🍃📚📚📖📖🍃🍂🍁🍂📚📖🎃🎃🎃🎃📖📚🍂🍁🍁🍂👻👻👻🍂🍁🍂🍃📖📖📚📖📖📖🍃📖🎃🎃🎃📖🍂🍁👻👻👻👻📙🎃🎃📖📚🍃🍂🍂🍂
I’m just starting to get into booktube and your video popped up! I love the books you have planned for fall and look forward to hearing what you think.
I read all the colors of the dark this month (the audiobook) and it was phenomenal. I don’t think I’ll stop thinking about it any time soon.
Ohhh Starter Villain is so good. I hope you read it.
I actually love Freida McFadden books!!! The houseMaid series is top notch!! ❤ 😅
The dark top and lipstick is definitely giving fall vibes aka Morticia Addams.
The Ex Hex is a fun read for witches and hexes.
it’s currently 104F/40C degrees here and I’m so READY for autumn!! I absolutely loved Thomas Hardy when I read some of his books (especially Tess of the d’Ubervilles)! I’m currently reading My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante and I’m absolutely in love with it so I know I’ll devour the quartet during the rest of august and september, up until autumn starts here!
Ready for fall reading!!📚📚📚
We have a MASSIVE heat wave and I'm just not ready for fall..
But I also love your TBR and maybe I'll add some of those books to my fall TBR.
We had a week of waking up with 12C so I’m feeling the fall… we’re getting another heatwave soon though :/
It's been forever since I visited your makeup channel. I love dark lipsticks, want to know the shade👀
I really loved What Moves the Dead so interested in what you think about it
Starter Villain is great!
Ooo loving the “Fall vibes” of this video. You lip color is great
I’m over summer so as soon as we had a few cool days I fully switched to fall mood 🍁
Elizabeth George is fantastic! It's a long series at this point, and the books are character driven but with intricate plots as well. They are so well done and you will come to love the characters so much. Far From the Madding Crowd is my first Hardy and still one of my favorites -- Hardy is my favorite classic author, so I'm a bit biased. 💚 I really enjoyed Gone Girl -- approach it with neutral expectations, if you can. 💚
The Spellshop is amazing! I highly recommend, it was so cozy 🥰
Love the lipstick ❤❤
I really like Elizabeth George. You've got the first book in her Thomas Lynley/Barbara Havers series. They're classic British detective novels and the character arcs over the series are well done. If you enjoy the first one, you've got a whole lot more you can look forward to when you're in the mood for a cozy read. They're not cutesy, some of the things that happen over the course of the series are quite dark, but for me, a British detective/police procedural novel is always a comfortable place to go when I'm not feeling inspired by anything else.
OMG so excited to see you read gone girl!!
You should check out Regrettably, I’m About To Cause Trouble which is a mix of historical, cozy, romance witchy book, written by a historian feminist 👌
Ok...Far from the Madding Crowd...the only character who had even a lock of sense was Oak, the farmer.
Yes, I agree completely, and I still love that book. :)
Love Gabriel Oak! 💚💚💚
I’m so jealous that you’re getting cool weather 😭😫 maybe I need to move to Canada haha
I also have never read Gone Girl but it’s been on my tbr forever! I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without seeing spoilers haha
Never Llie is the only Freida Mcfadden book that ive read, and it sounds SO interesting, i think if you read the premise you would agree 😄 but yeah, her writing style...leaves a lot to be desired. the book couldve been so much more, but hopefully its not as bad as the Housemaid lol.
excited to hear your opinions on How to Solve Your Own Murder, its been on my radar since it came out and im hoping to finally get to it in september too.
hope you're able to find a good mystery thriller this fall! looking forward to more videos!
I would like to recommend you a book by Darcy Coates named The Haunting of Ashburn House as a palette cleanser. Is it gonna be the best thing you have ever read? No, but hopefully you will have some fun with it. It’s considered cozy horror, but still captures the angst and unsettling feel. Hope you give it a try. X
Her thrillers are good too!
@@VulpineTea like Hunted? I’ll be sure to check them out!
Can't wait to see what you think of Starter Villain, I just finished reading it last week!
I agree, it's fall! :D I don't think you'll like Spells for Forgetting (I loved it haha), but Im very curious to see what you think. the atmosphere is impeccable!
Elizabeth George Inspector Lynly tv series on BBC is a DELIGHT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ❤❤❤❤❤ Edit: YOU WILL HATE STARTER VILLAIN. Watch TH-camr Daniel Green's review it is on point perfectly what all is wrong with Starter Villain. The only good thing about it was the talking cats.
My three top witchy books of the year
The Weaver and the Witch Queen by Genevieve Gornichec 5☆
A Restless Truth by Freya Marske 4.5☆
The Midnight Girls by Alicia Jasinska 4.5☆
The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec 5☆ was also great but didn't want two books by the same author in the top 3.
Next I have Her Spell that Binds Me by Luna Oblonski (hoping for 5☆)
Taken by the Witch Queen by Luna Fury is my other 5☆ but it's smut, the writing and story are very good tho!
Ho boy, Never Lie was my first ever dnf, I’m the kind of person who will stick a book out until the end but it was just so horrible I couldn’t do it. Good luck 😂
Damn… doesn’t look like this year is going to be the year I find good mystery/thriller books 😭
Lovely lipstick
you've got to read spells for forgetting this fall, the cozy fall atmosphere is sooooo good
Waiting to start reading Empire of the Vampire and The Stormlight Archive for the Fall. Also, hoping to finally finish Hyperion. And nonfiction: Our Moon: How Earth's Celestial Companion Transformed the Planet, Guided Evolution, and Made Us Who We Are.
I’m going to read Empire of the Vampire this fall too. I’m scared haha. So many mixed reviews.
The spellshop is so so cute ❤❤
Far from the madding crowd is good but I think the movie with Carey Mulligan was even better - I loved it sooo much!
I have been meaning to add suggestions and haven’t so here we go.
For more literary “thrillers”/mysteries I really enjoyed The Quiet Tenet and Strange Sally Diamond.
For horror there is Slewfoot which is about a vengeful witch and then My Darling Dreadful Thing which is a gothic horror that features a sapphic romance
Also, oh hey I read Witches, Doctors and Nurses! It was very good but very short and I'd honestly would have loved more information about that time period. I gave it 4 ⭐.
Good luck with your reading!!!
I read my first Gillian Flynn novel last week Sharp Objects gave it a 3
Have you tried the show? I thought it was really well done!
After you finish reading Gone Girl, I suggest watching (at least) Rosamund Pike's Amy "Cool Girl" monologue scene; it's the best part of the movie. That clip is here on youtube .
Yay for Witches, Midwives & Nurses! I swear I think I've commented before, but I think you would find Caliban and the Witch by Sylvia Federici life-changing if you haven't read it already. I like to think of it as an extended version of Witches, Midwives & Nurses. Your fall vibes are immaculate 🐈⬛
I’ve been looking for it when I used book shop but haven’t been lucky so far! I’ll have to crack and order it once I’ve read a few more of the books I own of that topic!
@@BookswithEmilyFox ok, I'm bout to figure out a way to get one of my copies to you :]
The temps have been cool down here in Ohio too but they’re on the way back up. The trees think it’s Fall. They’re starting to change colors and drop their leaves. I’m ready to call it Fall. I’ve already pulled out my horror and Victorian novels for September and October.
I read Gone Girl last year. It was good! Somehow I had escaped spoilers which is surprising considering how popular the book and movie were.
Far from the Madding Crowd is the Thomas Hardy I chose for Victober. I have heard it’s good from people who like Victorian literature. I read The Return of the Native in high school and remember it being terrible but that’s how I felt about everything we were required to read.
Our weather is doing the exact same! It’s going back up soon but it’s been full on fall the last week. The apples are starting to fall for the trees which is early!
Can’t believe you never had spoilers! I’ve seen the movie so I already know but I’ve heard the husband is worse in the book lol
I don't know if you feel the same way about book titles, but when a book title tells what the story is about, its a spoiler-Never Lie and the First Lie Wins would never appeal to me because its telling me that it involves lying. Please read Gone Girl and Far From the Madding Crowd this year or next year. They're surprisingly good.
Omg Gone Girl was so good! We support women’s rights, we also support women’s wrongs. Alsoooo, will you be doing a costume for the Halloween video?
Can I recycle my Wednesday Addams costume?
I love the movie so I’m sure I’ll be on Amy’a side even more with the book
Ooh gone girl was my favorite
Have you seen the movie? That would be good to do back to back haha
I did! That's why I know I'll love it lol
I tried reading First Lie Wins and DFNed it at around 75% because I found it too convoluted and I was completely lost and confused, but I think that it was a me problem because I was in a weird headspace. I think you could either love it of loathe it!
So glad I’ve found your channel again, is Artificial Wisdom on your TBR? Loving your autumnal vibes 🍂
fwiw I'm in middle of a sort of nonfiction book arc called "The book of forgotten witches" which is a really unique look at myths and folklore, usually coming back to female figures with witch or witch adjacent labels, and history of those accused of it while also mixing in origins and how things like tarot are connected. What makes it interesting is that it's written from the perspective of this ancient narrator and is a combination of more encyclopedic type facts/over view and ends each section with a short story to bring one of the figures to the center.
First half of Gone Girl is captivating and it reads fast.
Ive read What Moves the Dead and the sequel. It’s eerie and slightly creepy without being horrific. Recommend reading over the audiobooks.
Starter Villain is fun!!!
My three fav mystery thriller authors
Yrsa Sigurdardottir
Camilla Sten
Sara Blædel
Upcoming I have "The Night Guest" by Hildur Knutsdottir which comes out in about a week
In October, I am going to try The Once and Future Witches - I will have to let you know how it goes!
PS: Your long hair is beautiful, but if you ever want a drastic change, I think shoulder length hair would really suit you. (At the beginning of the video, your hair was behind your shoulders, so I hope you don't mind me sharing what I thought ❤)
Daughter of Mine was actually excellent. I have been super disappointed with Megan Miranda’s last couple of books but her newest was great. Interesting spooky mystery/thriller that I sped through.
The Perfect Marriage isn’t essentially a bad book, what I felt as an avid thriller and mystery-thriller reader is that if you have read a couple of those, you’ll see what’s coming from miles away. It was really predictable.
I'm looking forward to what you think about What Moves The Dead. I liked it overall but felt like the creepy vibes were kinda short-changed by what I've come to know as Kingfisher's generally light-hearted style.
You gotta try Legacy Witches by Cass Kay! It's such a good cozy, witchy series.
So awesome im reading what moves the dead 🎉
For a good witch-based series, try "The Line" by J.D. Horn. I read it several years ago and loved it. It's a trilogy (Witching Savannah) with one prequel.
Is it sad I just clicked bc I love the lipstick color! 😂 (and everything else obv- but love it!!! ) 🍁❤️
I’ll take it 😂
I don't know if you've read it yet, but if you want a crime novel that's a little different I'd recommended The Colors of Death by Patricia Marques. It's a very grounded scifi novel about a world where certain people have very minor telepathic/telekinetic abilities and have to deal with societies reaction to that. The main character is a telepath and how the author weaves that ability into police work and the issues she faces is very interesting.
I have friends who gave The Housemaid 5*. I now need to rethink our friendship 😅
You HAVE TO read Gone Girl!!! I love that book lol
I loved the movie and I’m absolutely on the “good for her” train so I need to read it!
What will be on your TBR for the fall? Are you more into vampire, witches, horror?
I've had a few Anne Rice books (witches series) on my TBR for... waaay too long. I love witches.
Me too! The witching hour is soooo long though
@@BookswithEmilyFox I read it years ago. I stopped in the middle of Lasher (second one) because, well, life happens, and haven't picked it up again. Now, I have to reread Lasher. 🤷♀️
I already started fall vibes with The Black Bird Oracle; halfway in, so far so good!
All of the above 😅
I’ve heard only bad reviews of The Ex Hex so beware 😬
The problem with Gone Girl is that after it was published, a lot of authors kind of stole the same (or similar) concept. So, it might not be as mind-blowing now as it was when it originally came out. It’s still good, though!
I am still so happy about Housemaid making it to your worst this year bc it was mine last year and i felt so alone with that one. 😅
Definitely not alone! It’s very readable but… so bad lol
😬 Of the 4 Simone st James books I’ve read, murder road was by far the worst. I really liked the other 3, including sundown motel. Murder road was such a letdown, I can’t think of a single thing I liked about it.
Venco by Cherie Dimaline is a great book about witches!
Well i know i'm in the minority but i don't want the summer to end =\ I can't help you decide in most of those books. I don't read mistery/thrillers. Like them as movies, not much into them as books, but still like to see your reviews about them.
I thought I was the only one that didn’t read Gone Girl lol. I might wait for you to review it before I take the plunge.
The movie was great so the book should be too right?
@@BookswithEmilyFox haven’t seen the movie either 😂
I wanted to know what the whole Freida McFadden fuss was about and read The Teacher (didn't read The Housemaid because I'd already seen video essays tearing it apart), and had I finished it, it would've made it to my worst reads of the years.
It was so boring, uninteresting, messy and annoying.
She's the Colleen Hoover of thriller
Hi! Very interested in your review of What moves the dead. I DNFed it ~1/3 through. I really don’t see the hype with her, I think it’s just really bad writing. (Basing this also on The hollow places by her which I finished smh)
Waiting for the video that comes after reading The Ex-Hex👀👀
Hahah well I at least thought that “The Housemaid” was somewhat entertaining especially in the beginning. But my god “Never Lie” was sooo much worse, it’s in fact so bad that I kind of want you to read it just so I can see your reaction hahah 😂
It looks like that will be the case 😂 oh well it might be a “read it until it pisses me off” again!
Never Lie was ok
Housemaid for me 9/10 the 2nd book the Housemaid's Secret 10/10 best in the trilogy. The 3rd book 4/10
In october i will try to finish one book series a week :)
Im defenetly doing
temeraire series
Bridgerton
An amber in the ashes
Dont know about the last week though haha
