As someone born with Cerebral Palsy, I was main streamed into normal schools in the late 70s/80s, from K to 12, grew up with normal kids, was challenged by normal standards, and knew nothing of compromise. Family and Friends, all established high expectations, and little time was spent discussing anything but achievement. It was hard, but not mean, its was not always fun, but it was done with patience and love. Kids with challenges need goals, need to be challenged, and once they develop a since of achievement, it becomes their reality. I learned to walk 3 separate times, after 2 significant surgeries. Even made the senior soccer varsity team. Now approaching 60 years of age, I can only imagine what my life would have been like, if I was not challenged, and encouraged and held to a higher standard than even so called normal kids. Who has the greater journey or distance? Someone that can walk, then learns to run? Or someone that learns to walk multiple times, learns to run multiple times. The point being, that some of us have a longer road to travel from day one than others, but if you never take that first step on the road, you have already failed.
As an 18-year old, I find your comment very interesting. This is because I have always thought, and indeed in my country the common consensus is, that those with special needs need special standards - in essentially all regards generally lower ones. But, the point you raise about having them treated as normal, just with patience and love, is a quite reasonable one, and it challenges those previous beliefs I have held. Hence, I am still thinking about it. I will remember this comment. Thank you, and have a good rest of your day.
Teachers saved my destiny, made me believe I was smart enough to go to university and I did against all odds.Bless and encourage each child or young one that crosses your path💕
I'm sorry, i will be blunt, The black community has given me so much more than just music, and whatever anyone else says "they got" I got a universe of knowledge from these folks, and some will never truly grasp the impact and inspiration they have been to me, and in humanity! They taught me so much about what it means to be a human, and ill forever be grateful to them. 🙏 They did that for me, and even more for humanity, so i wanted to give yall the flowers you always deserve!!! 💐 Keep shining please! I genuinely mean that 🙏
These young ladies are to be celebrated! The perception that a particular ethnicity is better or worse at academia is ludicrous! God bless this school and the students.
They (and their school) remind me of the atmosphere in the book "Hidden Figures". I keep rereading it because it calms me. Excellence without blustering.
so it was a... "try to team up somehow" and "solve these problems in some genuinely constructive fashion" because i believe in you 60 minutes ! to meet those challenges
Excellent inspirational upload 👍 👏 . Good luck to the smart students in their future career journey. Jacob being blind and pushing himself is true testament to belief and perseverance. Highly inspirational.
