I would have cried as well. This literally broke the barrier between fashion and art. It is THE #1 iconic moment in fashion history from one of its greatest designers with one of the greatest models of all time. Shalom really was destined for this McQueen moment. MIND YOU -- this entire thing was UNREHEARSED. She impov'd everything.

Mmm. The unveiling of Dior’s New Look in 1947 is probably more “iconic” (how I hate the modern overuse of that word) though this is up there. The New Look shaped the course of fashion over the next decade. This is brilliant but no one was walking around with spray painted trapeze dresses for the next decade...

I love how she initially seems to be afraid and trying to shield herself. Then when, that which she feared happens she gives herself over to it. When it is accomplished, she seems to "own" it, get off the turntable (hamster wheel?) and accept applause for the wonderful piece of art.

And he actually just copied Manel Torres. In 2010 he created this material and made videos/Ted talks about it.
"A Spanish fashion designer has developed the world's first spray-on clothing that can be worn, washed and worn again.
Manel Torres joined forces with scientists at Imperial College London to invent the spray, which forms a seamless fabric on contact with the body.
Torres took 15 minutes to spray a T-shirt onto a male model in a demonstration today, ahead of his spring/summer collection at the Science in Style fashion show in London next week."

    • @Byrnezy

Pure creative genius and fashion as art and performance ……the robots were balletic, graceful, menacing and rapacious. The dress was utter simplicity and perfection in its scale. The graffiti the ultimate symbol of modernity and the explosion of applause by the audience, rapturous. And of course the model was an actress, not just a model. Perfection.

    • @tomorrocat

Not even really trained as either though I don't think (only actually trained in ballet) that's what's so amazing it's just her instinctively knowing exactly how to play the part every move every look unrehearsed even!

Artistically one of the best if not up there with Yves Saint Laurent,Coco Chanel and Schiaparelli. He is missed and I'am totally playing the stories Lee would have made all these years. I believe that Lee thought he was done with fashion and had basically shown all he could. It was time for him to go.

impresionante. dijo la modelo Shalom Harlow en una entrevista: "I mean, there was barely even a fitting,” she says, voice hushed. “I got off a flight, and we made sure the belt around the top of the dress fit. I was told that I was going to be on a podium that spun, with robot arms that were going to spray-paint me. And that was it. I did not know how long I was going to be spinning. I didn’t know the velocity of the spin. I didn’t know the music piece. I didn’t know anything. I just walked out there, and responded to the elements.”...."Se sintió como si acabara de caer un rayo. Era eléctrico. La gente se volvió loca y la gente todavía está respondiendo a ese momento, 20 años después”.
