I find it very funny that some of the higher notes of the song are red on the sheet music, since the software that put it there for the video is basically saying that "No tuba should play that high". Clearly they should.
This is some incredibly high playing for a tuba and it’s quite impressive, but does anybody want to acknowledge how beautiful these melodies are? I mean hats off to the composer for writing an incredibly beautiful piece that couldn’t have been played better on any instrument. I’m just the percussionist anyways so who gives a crap.
Everyone is thrilled by superfast runs, double tonguing and such things that Øystein makes on tuba, and I am also. But I'm just mesmerized and deeply moved by those lyrical pieces, where his instrument sounds like some big soothing and calming being, a huge purring cat with kind magical green eyes protecting you from every evil in this world. Shivers down the spine.
i have the same range, just not as good with it as he is. but im decent in that range. This piece is gonna be my Solo and Ensemble Festival piece this year
The range he uses in this song is achievable by most people, he uses an Eb tuba, so him playing the highest note, an F, is the equivalent of a high C on a BBb tuba
Still you got to admit it got to be hard to play that range as comfortably with a full sound like Øystein. I know tubas have a larger range than euph but still.
Matthew Lynn nice, I'm doing concerto in one movement, with the highest note on being a high E, still a bit of struggle, but on most days my highest note is an F with the highest I've ever gone being a Bb at 4 lines above the staff
Matthew, no one cares. Getting to all-state is easy. Also, learn the meaning of irrelevant. Ex: "Matthew Lynn's comment was irrelevant and added nothing to the original comment's idea."

I always just focused on how high or low they could play a few years ago, but tone is the most important part. If you were to hear øystein play without seeing him, you would know it's øystein. Range isn't a problem for me when it comes to this piece, it's tone. Playing pedal tones with good tone is easy, but playing high notes with a tone that makes it as if you almost couldn't tell if it was a euphonium or a tuba playing is hard. Øystein makes it sound easy.
Remi H thanks I've been looking all over the internet, couldn't find much, I had just guessed it was an F tuba. This song is even more difficult on a Bb Tuba
@@SinkularJame If you pay close attention to the fingerings he's using you can see it's an Eb.
