1:59 I feel like it is probably because of a circuit shortening out in the control board, that's all I could guess. These are nice fans, I can't wait to see them run!
@@JordanU Yes, Lachlans Lights and Fans, Or Lachlan Potts, Has a video on the problem, I am always surprised on how many of them haven't caught fire years after they recalled. Mind you fans were built better back in the 80's so a lot stronger and better in quality and preformance
I had a Mistral Gyro-Aire for a while. they are great performers, it is too bad they are fire hazards. The issues (that I know of) are as follows: The main issue is the control board, there is a resistor that gets very hot (likely other issues with the control as well), the circuit board they are mounted to is made of plastic, and it is non flame retardant. The whole casing of the fan is made of a polystyrene type plastic, which is highly flammable and non flame retardant. The motor is not thermally protected in any way. The motor windings are held together with cotton string, which is flammable. The line cord is undersized and is rated for the exact current the fan draws with no room for error. I think that is it. The one I had worked pretty well, but had noisy bearings. servicing the motor was a huge pain, and I was never able to get it back together right, the rotating grille never was quite right again, I broke some little plastic clip. It was a great fan, but I am paranoid about things anyway, and I could never trust it to run when I wasn't in the same room.
What a disaster. If this fits well in my windows, then I'll probably bypass the switch, replace the cord, and add a thermal fuse to the motor to make it at least somewhat reasonable to use when home. I typically only run fans with enclosed motors unattended, or ceiling fans.
@@JordanU I had a gyro site I mean site I mean aire aire gyro I had one before but it broke but they I think are fire hazards so please Jordan be careful but trust me still is better than shitty lasko 3733 3734 lasko is junk compared to sheer alone performance just of not even as good as quality of a vintage fan you know they are better I don’t understand people scared of Clint age vintage is good just don’t be dumb and stick fingers in the fan and keep it piled. Ploy oiled every month or so for a vintage one and it will last centuries but new one is non serviceable permanently lubricated because there is no such thibg it just means non serviceable aire
I am so sick of brainwashed people. Vintage is so much better and everyone is so very wrong because new stuff is crap and this old stuff does yes lasts a long time okay and they work better than new ones too Jordan I am so sorry about this I am sorry to whoever I just am replied to I am being disruptive and I am so sooo sorry.
The Gyro-Aire is dangerous on account of not only the design flaw on the switch, but the plastic was NOT flame retardant. I think Harley Badger had one, and bypassed the original switch in addition to making the plastic safer.
Hey Jordan, Congrats on getting the Mistral Gyro-Aire Box fan, I live in NZ and yes they were re-called, Australia has a lot more Mistral fans, GA-1670 is the model you've got. They made a lot of other fans too, Desk, Pedestal, Ceiling, Exhaust and the list goes on. I am shocked on how you got one of those. I know the AFCA Museum has one too. The fault was in fact in the control panel, The circuit would shorten and cause a fire. I am glad you've got your first mistral fan. I do like Mistral fans, You know how you are about the Galaxy fans, That's how I am about Mistral fans and to be honest I wouldn't have thought you'd ever have a Mistral fan, I saw the video and when I read one dangerous I then knew you had got one of those The blades are but I believe the blades may be plastic. I have seen some get destroyed and I recall the blades being plastic. They are good fans, Quiet but at max speed, They are one powerful fan, Very quality too, To make the grill pull out and louvre the circular piece at the front you pull out towards you, It's not that hard to do, If you search up Lachlans lights and fans, He has recorded a few videos on them, TysiamFox29 He has done some videos on them too. They have recorded videos on other Mistral fans too, I recommend checking those out too. If you lived in Australia I think you would find Mistral your top brand. I think the way you are with the Galaxy and Lasko fans is the way you'd be with Mistral fans in Australia and NZ. I have never been so excited about a collector owning a Mistral fan before lol
I've always found it interesting to see what things are like in different parts of the world. This is definitely one of the more rare pieces in my collection.
@@JordanU Yes, It's embarrassing to say that an collector in America has got one of these before I have as I live in NZ where there a lot more common. 😆
Those metal tabs on the top of that Duracraft are for the window to slide in between them and the handle to keep it from falling in or out the window. I agree with you on Duracraft in the 90s and early 2000s. To be honest I think Duracraft is probably my favorite for window fans. They perform well and had some cool looking designs.
Makes perfect sense, I can't believe I didn't figure that out. It's too bad these larger form factor window fans disappeared from the market, I like them much better than the smaller twin ones.

yes it was
That is one of the failures of these units. Unfortunately they have multiple safety flaws.

You hit the nails on the heads of all the issues. Perhaps the most dangerous fan ever made.

Last week, I got a vornado cs fan with variable speed from the owner by pickup and I have videos coming up of me working on it.
Thanks for letting me know.
Those both should work but can’t wait to see you serviced the other one I enjoyed the video
Glad you enjoyed it bro.

Yeah I saw harley video, replaced the speed controller and everything, much safer with those modifications.

Pyro ?

this duracraft air circulator is very interesting because some of its design reminds me of the old Brazilian "MALLORY" brand circulator from the 2000s

Plenty more to come.
