    if you could get ahold of some industrial strength heat shrink wrap we used it on the yachts we built to totally seal out any moisture or dust you could wrap it heat it and just cut out your seat area just a thought

      A tip: you can watch series at instaflixxer. I've been using it for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.

    Hello, I would like to know what kind of tarpaulin you use in the video for the kayak you are building?I also built a kayak, but from PVC pipe. The only thing missing is the tarpaulin, but I don't know what to buy.

      @@Gerő_Viktor it was cheap poly tarp from the hardware store. It would be better to use canvas and then paint it with house paint.

    A coming could stiffen it up considerably. What does the big-hipped mermaid weigh? Sorry if I missed that detail, but it looks flexy and heavy. (and slow) Reminds me of a Red Green project---all that gray.

    • @alanmcdonald3208
      @alanmcdonald3208  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, if I was going to paddle it I would add some diagonals to stiffen it. It is very flexy and weighs around 32lbs I think. So, about the same as a glass boat. It's really more of an arts and craft project than a real useable boat. People are taking it way more seriously than I did.

    Boa tarde, eu nunca construi um, mas ficaria mais hidrodinâmico se as conecxões dos canos, fossem por dentro, com um cano de menor espessura! Lindo projeto! Parabéns.

    Do you have any suggestions on how to make something like this but foldable? What would be the best way to connect pvc pipe together? I'd like to make a 12 footer, but I don't have the space to store one, so Ideally, I'd love to make one that splits in 2 and have the skin be able to roll up when not in use.

    shrink wrap several layers makes a strong skin.

    • @punchdrunkatheist

      I was thinking wrapping in a fabric and painting it with resin, but shrink wrap seems like a great idea and even cheaper. I'm glad I came here, haha.

    Imagine if you kept the tarp as is,but cut the kayak frame in half. You now have a portable kayak. Unroll the skin, shove both pieces into their perspective ends, and join them with a recessed inner piece of pipe. Then a simple zip tie would hold them together. Now refine this and you are on to something. For instance, make the frame collapsible. Easy to do, when you realize you don't need to glue the pipes, the skin will hold them in place. This kayak could take up less room then a tent, and fit into a similar sized bag .

    If you are concerned with the safety if your pvc tarp canoe, maybe you should put a lifepreserver.

    Why not ballistic fabric? It costs $12.79 for 9 ft, Using tarp comes in out about the same price, But if i have went to all the trouble making that i would up rate the fabric at least for the sake of penny's that it would cost. ;)

    Really, I watched this whole video for this, ?I seriously thought it was a really cool build, and then you go and put it in a tar0 , wow I so thought you were going to skin it, somehow , and or fiber glass it, very disappointed in the final out come, but I guess if your happy, that's all that matters

      Hi Carl. This was a cheap project to keep me busy at my mother-in-law's house. If you want to see 18 videos showing the complete design and build of a real sof kayak that went through weeks of training runs and 80 miles down the Sacramento River; see that on my site waterlightkayaks.com. Or you can check out Cape Falcon Kayaks to buy how-to videos from a real pro. With any skin, this pvc kayak would not be suitable for any more difficult water than what is in the video. It would be too flexible and brittle to take what a real could.
