I love little quirks of regional english like how folks like Kevin say "Leave" when folks here in USA wud say "Let" (eg "Leave go of me" instd of "Let go of me"). I mention this at Anna sayin "How do we name the cat?" to mean what i am used to hearin as "What do we name the cat?"
To me "How do we name the cat?" sounds like Anna is askin how to actually input letters to name the cat. I kno its not, but like with leave and let as Kevin does; itll take me hearin this usage a lot for it to not register as weird.
Ive watched enuf Kevin to be used to most of his regional language quirks tho i cant recall whether he says how or what in this context cuz i cant think of once where he asked someone for input on a name...
So!! Technically, Kevin and Anna actually have those little quirks in their English for the *same reason* even though it may not seem like it at first glance.
Anna is not a native English speaker so, like many ESL speakers, when she speaks English she frequently recreates the grammatical structures of the language(s) she's more used to but in English (for example if a native Spanish speaker said "how are you called" because they are used to saying "como te llamas" and that's the literal word-by-word translation).
Kevin is a native English speaker, BUT Irish English is structured to reflect many of the conventions of Irish grammar. So when Kevin says things like "I'm just after building that" it's because that's how you would say "I have just built that" in Irish, that's just how the verbs work in that language so when the Irish had to learn English they just directly translated and it became regional dialect.

Glad you're feeling better Anna! I had covid a month ago and it felt like I was trying to breathe with a heavy weight on my chest. Thankfully, that went away within a week or so. Covid sucks!
