I have used Surf Shark for the last three years, not a bad service. Ended up canceling it though, they don't offer port forwarding, but if you just need a standard VPN with no limits (no one is going to hit 100 devices unless you are a business) it's a solid vpn.

    •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      Indeed.
Hosting data on servers uses energy and ressources (videos are the heaviest of all, having visual and audio included), it is even worse for AI, as we also actively feed them information to make them better, and each learning task/query to create something uses additionnal energy.
AI is not a free ressource, to the point where microsoft is investing in nuclear energy in the prospect of having to produce an enormous amount of energy just to fuel their data centers.

This is a particularly bad AI channel, I've seen some damn convincing ones and that isn't even close. I have seen channels about motorsports which would definitely make you think twice if they were real or not. This one hasn't even followed the basic advice for any TH-camr, human or not, which is to pick a niche and stick in it. Just incredible scenes honestly, truly awful slop.
I suspect that's because they're not attempting to monetise the channel itself through the partner programme, but rather, entirely make money off of the Amazon links. Social Blade can't tell you that, it thinks I make £201 - £3.2K a month, but I make nothing, because I'm not in the partner programme because the partner programme has standards, and that channel would never meet them.
As for if this is hurting anyone? Yeah.
I am most of the way to having a masters in content creation, so these aren't the only issues but they are the ones I understand best. If an AI channel _is_ in the partner programme, it's hurting legitimate creators, firstly by taking a portion of TH-cam Premium money, which is pooled, which means the more of it that goes to these channels, the less goes to people that actually put in effort; and secondly it hurts the value of ads on the platform, companies are less likely to run ads if those are going to appear alongside this kind of slop. However even when they're not, any impression they get is one that a human created video doesn't, and that makes starting out just that little bit harder, and damn man, it's hard enough as it is to find any kind of traction here. Competing with this just means more people won't keep going long enough to make it, and that hurts TH-cam, it hurts TH-cam viewers, and it hurts the ecosystem of TH-cam creators.

@@dpv007 I find it hard to be that pessimistic. WOTC has already said multiple times they wont (intentionally) use AI art for their products, and while I wont give the multi-billion dollar corporation too much credit, I do kinda buy that. Games like Magic are at the end of the day a luxury product like most forms of art, where its literal function isn't the thing that derives its actual value. Luxury products get their value by selling you on the amount of work that went into making them, which Magic is really leaning into with all of the various art treatments and foilings and such of their cards. They go out of their way to try and avoid seeming cheap, and the various posts their artists make showing their process for the pieces that go into the game are functionally more advertising. They've also cut ties with the individual artists that snuck AI art past them already, and makes sense purely from a financial standpoint. The artists are paid on commission, likely for a full original piece, so I doubt the company is happy to hear the artist is taking shortcuts and delivering a product that, thanks to how laws about AI art work right now, they might not actually have the copyright to.
Dont get me wrong, Hasbro is stupid and I wouldn't put it past them to make a very dumb decision, but I'm skeptical when the art IS THE PRODUCT. Of all the corners that can be cut, its one of the least feasible ones to. It would be like a jewlery store deciding to sell only brass bands because they're technically rings. Yeah, they're far cheaper, and I could propose to someone with one, but its not what anyone is in the market for.

People who will consume the sloppiest content they can create for free. I've also seen some mtg artwork on cards that is obviously AI generated although it could just be individual artists secretly using AI and WotC may not know.
But my suspicion is the complete opposite. I believe that WotC have developed a model like Midjourney trained on their vast catalogue of artwork and they are generating backgrounds for the artists to use. The background art in nearly every set since Murders at Karlov Manor has been very suspicious. If WotC thought artists might use AI, they would want it to be trained on their own artwork to achieve the best results so why not get ahead of the trend and build a model.

Hey there. I have been using an AI speech to text program to make video shorts content for my pokemon tcg channel, using my own written scripts, about my favorite tcg sub format, GLC which is very similar to EDH. I started using it when I lost my voice to a cold, but I've kept using it because it's much better voice quality then my crappy microphone and voice and makes it easier for me to make the content I want to make, though I still record my own voice for my longer gameplay videos. I also spend a lot of time, up to 3 hours per short, not just editing the videos, but rewriting, regenning, and editing the voice so that it has a more natural sounding cadence to it.
I don't do it to farm views, I'm barely able to make 2 shorts a week between my IRL dad/employee responsibilities, but it allows me to make the content I want to make with my restrictions. I will often watch and rewatch the shorts I make because I enjoy them.

I'd say AI voice is the least offensive use of AI in content creation, hell there are so many useful how-to videos out there that are just hard to watch because people speak through their nose or hardly know english, that would be better with an AI voice. Also, whenever I or most people see a short with an AI voice, we just scroll past it. It always gives the impression of low effort. No one wants to waste their time with it. So if you want to grow, you have to use a real voice

If I hear AI voices I just click off. Your videos could be well-scripted and informative but the vast, vast majority of videos that use AI voices are just completely horrible. I don't want to waste time so I just don't watch videos that use AI voices. For every one that is actually interesting there are a thousand that are unwatchable.
But I don't want that to be discouraging because I think there is actually an unfilled niche with GLC content on TH-cam. Outside of Andrew at Tricky Gym who created the format and his friend Morse who helps him collect data, I can think of maybe 2 GLC creators. 1 of them doesn't upload consistently and the other only makes GLC videos every now and then and is more dedicated to collecting. There just isn't a dedicated GLC channel on TH-cam from what I have seen, which sucks because I think it's a super fun format. If you got an entry-level recording setup, I think you are probably close to having a really cool TH-cam channel. You've already practiced video editing and script writiting, so it really is just the audio you need to learn.
I don't make TH-cam videos but I am a music producer. I'd recommend looking at Shure microphones (the SM7B is the industry standard but the SM57 or SM58 with a pop filter would be perfectly fine) and Focusrite Scarlet interfaces (You can get whatever you want but you don't need more than the 4i4 to start, just make sure it has at least 1 mic preamp and and XLR input) and you can get a setup that's 95% as good as a professional setup for $300-500. Audacity is a free program to edit audio, but I'm sure whatever you use to edit videos also has something to work with audio. Recording audio can be intimidating and listening to yourself talk is awkward, but it is totally worth it for how much it can improve your videos.
Again, don't get discouraged by us hating AI. You have a really good idea for a TH-cam channel and in my opinion you should keep working on it, just using your voice.

As just one yutz who watches a lot of TH-cam, but rarely buys anything through it, I think the biggest problem I have with this is the dialog. I can accept that some people don't want to record their own voices; maybe they believe their own voice wouldn't sell well, or mesh with their market. Why do 40k content with your girly voice, when you can make it sound like David Attenborough, doing an historical review, but the thing that annoys me most is how choppy, and inaccurate, the voicing is? Now, I KNOW that there are a couple of words i might say wrong. I can think of one, from D&D, that i actively say wrong, and intend to keep saying differently than the majority of other people who might mention it, but i sit through a lot of LotR content, 40k content, and the like, and while I know some of those words are weird, and id love for the IP holder to publicly proclaim how we are to pronounce it; Roboute Guilliman, for instance, I just hate listening to some of those programs stilt through the content, saying words erong, or three different ways throughout the same video, leaving me wondering if the creator ever even listened to the end result video, before posting it, and decided that they were "okay" with the audio quality they had uploaded? There are several that I listen to, and have to weigh the options, because they might also just prattle out a script written by software that covbled together content from uother sources, or if it sounds like someone who actually cares, compiles their own words; maybe even tells me dpmething I HADN'T heard in four other videos, on the topic, but jyst in a synth voice, or if the entire content is synth? I like these less and less as i consume more of it.

That’s part of the problem. It’s false advertisement. Artificial neurons are neurons in the same sense a crude drawing of a human is human. It has roughly the same shape, but is infinitely simpler. It is also confined not only by laws of mathematics, but also by our understanding of those laws.
It can be useful, but selling it as intelligent system is far from the truth. It requires huge amount of human input to train - that’s where the actual intelligence can be found in those systems.
Corporations sell it as AI, so that we will gasp from awe at, at its core, crappy generated content (CGC). The best way to counter that is to refuse to call it this way.
