I've been waiting for some quality woodworking/runescape crossover content. Only need lvl 40 to cut down maple trees vs the lvl 60 crafting for black dragonhide. Love it!

When I use to make Billiard Cues.
I never did it with resin. but I did vacuum seal wood with stain. So as I turned it on the lathe the color would be all the way through. No more spending weeks or months on a cue to have stain penetrate through and ruin the rings or joint collar.
Curly Maple dyed blue or green sold the most.

Incredible work! You mentioned the maple was almost like cork, actual cork would be Interesting as well, 3 wine corks in a row make a knive handle 😅

Nice progress. I make knives and started to stabilize my own wood for about 8 years now. Most of my progress I made through trial and error and a bit through TH-cam.
The two most important steps that you mentioned too.
    1. Dry the heck out of the wood. This will decrease the vacuum phase and increases the intake of resin.
    2. Yes give time for the resin to be sucked into the wood. I support that with pressure. I have one of those airspray pots that I pressurise with air to a couple of bar. Also this increases the resin intake
How do I know? I weigh all my woods, wet , dries and after the resing is cured.
Unlike you I had never any success with dies in the resin. Also this was to expensive for me to experiment with. I die my wood with alcohol stain (those litte powder bags you disolve in denatured alcohol) The advantage in my eyes, cheap, a lot of colores available, alcohol penetrates better than resin. I either let it sit in the stain or use vacuum. Of course it needs to be fully dried before you put it into the resin, alcohol dries off quick too.
Btw one litte tip, put a trap between your container and your vacuum pump. The oil in the pump doesn’t like resin. I had to take my pump apart twice, clean it and chnage the oil. Not difficult but messy and I like to spend my time more usefull.

Really fun projects here. Nice one lad. Word of warning about using click seal bags to keep moisture out - they don't do a very good job (learnt the hard way). I bought some weathertight Iris boxes with hotmelt seals and keep a tub of silica gel in there for stuff I need to keep moisture well away from. Works a treat. Just refresh the gel in the oven every month or two.

Hi Matt! I must ask several questions. What do you do with all that colorfull waste?
With all that rasin, do you still consider this as a 'wood'working? 😅
How are your tools being worn off from this material - do you need to sharp your chisels more often?
    Thanks

Not even past 2 minutes in and you are doing it wrong... pull vacuum until ALL bubbles stop you don't get diminishing returns you are pulling air from the core of the wood thats how you get complete penetration ... ignore the people saying to put it in a pressure pot give it the proper amount of soak time after releasing vacuum which is a minimum 2x the length of vacuum i.e. vac 20hrs soak for 40 hrs... there is a reason for this you are giving the cellulose time to get encapsulated by the resin on a microscopic level putting pressure to it is just forcing it into the air voids it only gives the illusion of full penetration... im creeping up on 31 years smithing and 10 years of stabilizing ive tried most of the methods out there and most of the resins cactus juice is still the best and all relevant info is on the turntex website

I'm a knifemaker, and I'm not a big fan of them personally, but they definitely sell! I think people that work with timbers have a deeper appreciation of the natural beauty in uncoloured woods. The average person sees a brightly coloured timber handle and just thinks "cool"...
