The tips you gave about it being expensive and the long walks were great. The Atlantis is still one of the best places that we have ever visited. I’ve been going since ‘99 and going in July. I think Bahamians are very nice but I did notice that they were low on staff because of the pandemic. It makes customer service suffer when you reopen at full capacity but don’t have enough staff. Going off property to eat at the Fish Fry or to the poop deck restaurant over the bridge saves money. It’s like Disney of the Caribbean. Once in a lifetime splurge with some kinks. Oh yeah and at check in your credit card is charged $150 per night for incidentals. Whatever you don’t spend is released back to your account at check out. My room in the Royal was a newly renovated one and so was my sister’s in the Coral in July 2021. It’s a Marriott property now. It used to be privately owned by a business man.

I just came back from Atlantis and I had a totally different experience. Everyone was extremely nice, they even warmed up my leftovers every day I was there. Seafire was 🔥the steak was the best my wife and I ever tasted. Olives fired whole fish 🔥🔥, we went back again and ordered the same exact thing! We stayed in The Cove which is much nicer than the other hotels. I agree it is expensive but just go prepared financially and your good! No need to buy water if you stay at the Cove, they give you free water containers (which becomes a souvenir) for their filtered water stations and turn down service brings you bottled water every night. The staff lays the customer service extra thick when you tip.

Some folks were nice, don’t get me wrong but it seemed like the Life Guards were uptight at the pool sections.. Seafire wasn’t bad but it’s all about how they cook that steak and my wife’s steak was damn near raw when she asked for well done… next time we gonna try out another resort but this was like once in a lifetime trip to take the family cause it was expensive with the kids but they loved it so that’s all that matters! Appreciate the feedback my brother! Bless up!

Yeah when we went which was years ago. EVERYTHING at the hotel was expensive. But there were restaurants across the street from the hotel and also shops to buy souvenirs. Which was way less expensive. Idk if it's still the same now as it was when we went. One morning I bought just donuts from the hotel and it came out to about $40!

I couldn’t find your original comment, so I’m sorry for that. The room in which we had, did not have a microwave… I know in the east towers they have done some renovations, so they may have microwaves now. All we really had was a mini fridge. If anything, you may just have to walk downstairs to use the microwave. My advice would be to stop at a grocery store and just stock up on snacks and anything that would help since everything cost money!

Yikes, now I am a bit panicked after watching this because of not getting the room you reserved, the toilet clogs and water pressure, and unfriendly staff. I am not so concerned about cost, because we are paying for a great experience. I feel duped. Did you book through a discount place, travel agent or direct through their site? Wondering if this had anything to do with bed type.

    • @CatchingUpWithTheCaviness
      @CatchingUpWithTheCaviness  ปีที่แล้ว

We booked this all through Expedia since we’re Gold members so this did give us a discount. Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much. This was a great experience for our kids nonetheless. I have to say, this was right around COViD time so people were a little on edge. They were also doing renovations in one of the towers. If money isn’t the issue, I highly recommend going! Going out of the country is always a different experience, but you would loveeeee this trip!

And some of the cab drivers are very rude. But the hotel itself is amazing and huge. The beach is open to were you have ppl walking up and down the beach trying to sell you everything from braiding your hair to selling drinks! And they're NOT affiliated with the hotel..so be very, very careful. And they charge you automatically for tips whether you want to or not. And last but not least if you're flying from the US to the Bahamas call your cell phone company and let them know you're out of the US to make sure what your rates are going to be once you're out there. I had a damn $300 cell phone bill. I got even charged for texting, phone calls going and coming even if I didn't answer. Hope this helps

@@CatchingUpWithTheCaviness nah you were right, unfortunately, lol. Like I said been to the Atlantis a lot, different times of the year, going over a decade. I think I’ve complained once and don’t even remember what for, what I remember is they gave me a free dolphin scuba approx $500. Not the case now. Going to be a little long. We expected a little bit of a downturn, pandemic, supply issues, etc. Some rooms are being renovated etc. Not sure where to start, I’ll go day to day. There was so much wrong. Not sure I’d recommend going soon. Maybe in the future. Still had a nice trip but standards have dropped considerably. Almost everyone there was complaining about something. Everyone was pretty pissed off.
Baha Mar is nice, service was terrible there too tho. Casino was dead vs the Atlantis.
Got there Friday, free stay in Royal tower thanks to Caesar’s for 5 day, then wife is comped 4 in the coral, they wouldn’t keep us in the same room idk why. Flight, transportation all fine, check in fine. Room outdated. Worst room I’ve stayed in by far. Pool/beach all fine besides the towels that are probably original, raggedy and stained, not enough towels to go around so people had to wait. Ate at the round place outside, meal was good. No wait. Made a reservation at 10 for Nobu, 6am flight from JFK so we were pretty tired, overslept before dinner and was late by 10-15 mins. Wouldn’t seat us. Never happened before. Been there at 11:30 trying to get a walk in, no problem. Now everything closes by 10. That’s new. We have no choice but to go to olives after 11:30. Ok whatever I guess. Night was fun.
Saturday, woke up a little late still a little tired, go to get lunch, we realize some places have closed down, beach tower is closed, with its restaurants, (supposedly bought by Pharrell Williams) go to olives and that’s when we realize the price for lunch is over $100. Guess prices have tripled here. get back to the room & we started noticing condensation from the AC and a little wetness on the carpet. Again, ok no big deal, they’ll fix it. Nobody showed up. Again, whatever, minor stuff. Went to baha mar for Cafe Boulud, absolutely amazing!! Hung out there the most of the night, fun party place on weekends, locals come there, some celebs were there, tables were empty.
Wake up Sunday to a now big puddle in my hallway, call, no one comes, ask to switch rooms we’ll see what we can do. They do nothing lol. 9:45 reservation at fish by Jose Andres, get there early, they make us wait. As they seat us the hostess tells us the place closes at 10 so we have to order our food immediately. We asked why give us a 9:45 res then? She just shrugged. By the way it’s freezing and most of the common places including the casino were pretty cold. 100* outside 60* inside. Every restaurant was freezing. I’m glad I brought a couple of hoodie’s and light sweaters. We order a bunch of app’s, they come out in 5 mins and all at the same time. We were hungry and the food was amazing so we scarfed it down. We ask the waiter to wait 5-10 mins to bring our entrees to digest, food comes out in a couple of minutes, steak raw as can be, wife’s entree was fine. They took some money off but miserable experience.
Playing blackjack that night a Karen tries to tell me I can’t gamble, tell her in my nicest way to fuck off, she asks for security and the pit boss, she wants me removed lol. Pit boss starts yelling at her cause she’s out of control and you know, trying to tell people they can’t gamble. Fun times lol.
Monday still nothing from the front desk, now have a little river flowing through our hallway. Now we’re getting attitudes from the front desk. Pool/beach/$100 lunch. 8:30 res at Nobu, food was great, service was ok. Prices were ok. We ate there the next 2 nights also, scared to go somewhere else and have a bad experience.
Woke up around 5:55 that morning, was having a smoke off the balcony. Took pics at 5:58, looked pretty. At exactly 6 the power goes out starting from the beach to the towers. Awesome to watch then then reality kicked in, had no idea what to do lol. Decided to get a pic and before I know it the power is back on. Ok wtf was that lol. Wake up a few hours later everything is fine. Not sure anyone noticed but me lol.
      Moving day, Tuesday.
Checking out at Royal. We go down early to complain about the river in the room the poor service etc. Although we’re complaining we’re really nice, after all we are in the Bahamas for free and besides the not so little stuff we’re actually having a great time. Up money, mostly good food, good people besides a couple of Karen’s. We’re Immediately hit with an attitude. Not use to this. The Atlantis has always been kind and accommodating. The workers are usually pretty great. We’re like wtf. They tell us they called us at 8:30 to move our room. But we were already on the way to dinner plus we’re moving rooms tomorrow. That really didn’t help us. Well sorry we called… yea at dinner time, like huh? We say we should be compensated for our troubles and the lady goes on you can have $75. We’re like per day and she’s like nope just $75. Not acceptable. Manager comes over, whispers something and she says the manage upped it to $100. Lol. Again we ask per day cause that doesn’t cover a lunch and nope just $100. We were blown away. Went to casino services and they apologized and gave us $300. They were blown away by the staff too.
So we move to the coral, pretty easy process. Staff at the coral were a breathe of fresh air, extremely nice, at first. Room was much much nicer.
Wanted to scuba diving with Stuart cove dives. Apparently their prices went up too. If not certified it’s $250 for cert then $250 to dive. That a grand for the 2 of us. Felt like a rip so we scrapped it.
      Pool/beach/$100 lunch/Nobu.
Wake up Wednesday and around 9 ish the power goes out, we find out it’s the whole island. It proceeds to go on and off for the next 8 hours or so. People are getting stuck in elevators. I’m getting a Starbucks but since they want to be cashless nobody can pay. Then they decide to start accepting cash lol. Don’t have cash too bad. Can’t make this up.
All the guests are really really pissed off now, most had some issues with their room and now this. The staff just turned. I get it’s not their fault but it’s a huge place that’s cashless, so people can’t do anything. They can eat/drink cause they can’t pay for anything, elevators, ruining vacations, etc etc. Complete disaster.
Thursday was probably the least stressful day, went to Carna at Baha Mar. Bought a bottle of Dom in duty free, wanted to go big our last night and the Baha seemed like a better place to do it. We had enough of the Atlantis’ BS. $60 round trip by taxi btw. 8:30 reservation at Carna. 15 mins early, the hostess tells us to come back at 8:30, wtf. Watch 3 more groups and the same thing happened. Then they tell me if my bottle is on their list I can’t bring it into the restaurant. It is of course & I can’t bring it because they think I’ll pop it under the table of something. Terrible service. Food was pretty good but not $500 good. Our cheapest dinner was $250, probably averaged around $300-350 a night tho. Spoke to a friend who went in April and they said the food wasn’t priced like this so maybe they just bumped it up within that time period. Food is crazy expensive in both hotels. Baha Mar def more expensive. $4 for a coke, no refills, alcoholic drinks range from $20-$30 unless you can find a happy hour spot. You can always go to the fish fry but it’s hit or miss on food.
In spite of the Atlantis, extortion prices, lack of caring by staff and the power going out, still had a great time somehow. But I completely see what you’re saying. Sorry for doubting you. Just had too much faith in one of my favorite places.
Heard they were still recovering from hurricane Dorian (I think) then the pandemic etc.
I did find out that during the pandemic EVERYTHING was shut down & was shut down for 19 months. They didn’t even have takeout from restaurants. Only a couple of gas stations were open and then people would start to hang around them so they shut them down too. So I can’t imagine the hotels were getting much love during that time because the people weren’t allowed anywhere. I get the issues the Atlantis can’t control but I don’t get the issues they can control mixed with lack of empathy or compensation.
Maybe the workers are tired of dealing with it too.
Also have to say if I had paid, like one women I met, her and her husband paid 4-5k for their trip plus the idk 1-3k per 2 people needed for food for a week, plus gambling, plus things like snacks, scuba, taxis or whatever else, I would’ve been absolutely furious. My trip was comped by Caesar’s. Can’t get that much back off of free I think was the issue I had with compensation.
Sorry for the LONG response lol but there was a lot.
