My sugar glider makes a similar noise when she's annoyed! (It's not quite 'crabbing' - it's a bit slower and lower-pitched.) It does tend to be when I'm trying to rearrange and clean her blankets or when I'm attempting a mini-bath. Haha Very very cute hedgie! You handled him VERY well and lovingly - always good to see a proper pet parent :) x

Hedgehogs do not like to be handled in such manner, reduce water level, let them stand on a flat surface (comfort) then gently pour water on it's back then scrub, and finally rinse. Doing this stresses out the little guy. I should know, I have a rabbit on my head.
