Man, that's a stunning engine! Great video RJ and the engine looks at home on your layout. Can't get enough of seeing engines pop out of the tunnel! Keep up the good work!
RF&P passenger cars are tough to find Ryan, trust me, I live in RF&P territory! I'm on the lookout for some good used passenger cars at a decent price so I can make my own. I've got a home made RF&P Pacific and for the moment when I run it I use Pullman cars, Pullmans go with anything. And like RJ says virtually all RF&P Pacifics were dual-service anyway so it's no sin to pull freight with one.
MTH made some Railking Heavyweight cars once, not really my thing. MTH made some premier streamlined cars but they are too late to match the F19. Basically, as Wayne said, not many options other than custom painting some.
@@rj.trains You know, I saw the RailKing RF&P hevyweights only once. They were at Tiny Tim's up in Ashland, actually it wasn't Tiny Tim's at the time, it was Train Town. Anyway I was in Ashland on a service call and stopped at Train Town on the way home and saw the cars. I didn't have enough money on me (the price was reasonable though) and when I came back the next day they were gone! I wasn't really surprised though. I've never seen any RailKing RF&P cars since!
Thanks, RJ, for this great review of the Lionel new F19. It is a stunning engine with its Russian Blue paint scheme (although on my laptop, the colour is more gray). I can hear why you prefer the N&W 611 whistle...very deep and commanding! Nice of you to demonstrate recommended curve radius...makes a difference. All the best to you and your family in 2025!
Looks great rj and thank you for the information and photos in the boiler color! Looking forward to having mine in the coming weeks and this only made me more impatient!
The color is gorgeous, I agree, it's a wonderful train by Lionel. Nice shots of the Locomotive on your video! I do wish you would have quickly cycled through all 5 whistles, always nice to hear all of them. Love that you showed it trying to do 036. I have 048 with 4" straight pieces between each curved piece, was really hoping it would be successful on your 036 so I could be sure it would work on my layout.
I think it should work on your layout. Sorry I didn't cycle through the whistles, I was trying to keep the video shot and others have played all five in their videos
Congratulations on your engine, I am glad you enjoy it. I received my F19 Pacific #490 C&O Tender Sportsman on Christmas Eve and I completely agree that this is a really great looking engine. The price point on this engine for what you get in performance and detail is also very attractive as well. Happy New Year and enjoy your trains, thank you for the great videos!
What a knockout release! The detail... it's like a mini Visionline. I agree on the color, but wonder if that headlamp placement could be fixed to be high like in the photo without too much work? Still looks great even overlooking that fact.
Wow this one has me rethinking about the George Washington I ordered. This one is out of this world beautiful! Congrats and great review. I received my Halloween f19 on Saturday and it has been fun to run.
What a great pick-up RJ! Wow! You know, the rivet-counters and nit-pickers may amuse themselves over this model but in my opinion it's drop-dead gorgeous! This is a case of "Close enough!" is MORE than enough! It's a stunner! And you're right, those RF&P Pacifics aren't going to last long on dealer's shelves! Oh, and the minimum curve requirements? In my experience sometimes you can get away with a tighter diameter than specified, sometimes you can't, so it's best to play it safe and take the manufacturer's word for it. Congratulations! And a Happy New Year to you and yours!
Great vid RJ I got the Halloween one and I gotta agree with ya these F-19’s didn’t disappoint in the slightest great models and it’s become one of my favs behind my PE Berk and Polar K4
I love the blue grey on this engine it's a sharp looking variation. There are too many engines to get out there, I might have to let this one pass even though I may come to regret it. Trainworld has 21 of the C&O sportsman left so maybe I'll have some time to decide! Awesome choice RJ!
@@rj.trains I was able to get the Halloween version as well. Had to hunt for it after the store I preorder it from skunked me. didn't get it from your store....I guess you know why...unfortunate..but folks can charge what they may.
I looked long and hard at that one in the catalog, but liked that darker blue and didn't think they'd match the catalog, glad I passed. That lighter blue doesn't hit me well at all. But, I did just pick up the RF&P Legacy Berk for half the price of the new Berks, so I'm happy!
Beautiful locomotive! I can't find anywhere online that has your blue fantasy paint scheme. Maybe the artwork is wrong on Train World and Mr. Muffins? Where did you buy this fantasy road name?
Artwork is wrong, it is a real paint scheme but pictures are really hard to find, I was only able to find two colored photos of the locomotive tucked away deep in an online data base. They are included in the video which goes live at 12pm ET on 12/30. The roadname is RF&P. It is technically a fantasy since the RF&P never owned an F19 but had a very similar locomotive called their 305 and 405 class
@@rj.trains The only color shots of RF&P steam I've been able to find are from very late in the steam era unfortunately. The locomotives were kind of dirty in the shots so the photos told me nothing.
Unfortunately, based on those rare colored photos you provided, Lionel got the colors wrong yet again only for this particular version. I bought two of the C&O versions, and those came out perfectly fine. The new Legacy MILW Hiawatha's they did did come out correct. Lionel is very bizarre. Some things they get the colors right and for others it's wrong. I tend to stay away from Lionel and only buy MTH. The F19s and H7s were an exception.
I agree to disagree. I think Lionel got the colors as good as they possibly can. Those color photos are over 70 years old and on undeveloped film slides. Only people who actually knew the color are long dead. I’m right there with you. I try to stay away from Lionel as much as possible because they get the colors wrong so frequently, but I have to give my hats off to Lionel here
Just so everyone knows, the basic specifications for RF&P steam locomotives post-World War One were: Graphited smokeboxes. Grey boiler jackets. (Shade and tone of grey not specified anywhere I can find. I'd say it's safe to assume it varied by paint lot.) Black on the cab, the running boards, and below the running board levels. Black on the tender. Gold trim. So if Lionel had to take a SWAG at the proper color for the boiler jacket I'd say their SWAG was as good as the one I took when I home-made my own RF&P engine. The color photos I was able to find from the late RF&P steam era were of no use to me, the engines were very dirty so the shots told me nothing useful. Doing my own custom jobs made me sympathetic to the model makers like Lionel, MTH, and others. Sometimes there just isn't enough information and you just have to go with your gut and a guess.
@@rj.trains Yeah like VISIONLINE (mind you)_ Rio Grande challenger, I went with the Russian Black green boiler. oh my word its GREEN. I should have gotten black 2018 catalog
I never said they matched if you watched the video, all I said was the color of the model looks closer to the real picture than the render, and I was satisfied with my purchase. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That is definitely one good looking engine.
Great review RJ!! Of all the F19 Pacific's, I think the RF&P is by far the nicest one. Now you need some RF&P passenger cars! - Ryan
