2024 Silverado 2500, Crew Cab, Gas V8, Long Bed, with 4WD, Work Truck Trim. It’s a Curb Weight of 6,922 lbs before they drain the Oil, Coolant, and Transmission Fluid. Probably about 6,850 I’d estimate.
Diesel to complicated now, i can tune my "gasser" or repair it for pennies on the dollar it cost to maintain a diesel. You are not cool because you own a diesel. Now my Maxxforce powered SC62 Manitex makes me money I dont own it because im part of the in crowd. You probaly have the flat brim hat and machoman sunglasses in your non "gasser"
@Aaron-dp5kb all the issues with lifters and everything else in these newer gassers 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Less trouble with a diesel. Has nothing to do with the "in" crowd, unless you feel "subpar" with your gasser.
Also a wonderful example of money jumping out of you wallet when you have to buy another 70 to 100k truck because the frame was built shitty. If you think they do it for our safety then ask yourself why they allow companies to put all the harmful shit in our food that they do. Or the crap in our water that they do. It's all an evil money grab.
Looking at this, all this flex at 35 MPH with little to no weight. What is this vehicle going to do at 60 MPH, towing or hauling at or close to maximum weight. I don't have a lot of faith in survivability. How about freeway speeds above 70 MPH?
Yes, with a vehicle that flexes like this one yes. But, our modern engineering should be able to build a light durable structure that could be survivable at those stresses. The Russians in the '70 were landing probes that survived the stresses of landing on Venus. And this shit is what they come up with for 100-130K? Come on!
@@shawnhoem487 Weird to compare a Russian space mission to your already overpriced grocery-getter. What do you want, a chassis made of titanium? I'm sure that will remain affordable for the common working man.
My dad hauls tankers. A chevy rear-ended him and looks just like this. Tanker speed was 65mph so the truck had to be close to 100mph to do that kind of damage. 😮
I don't know if it was intentionally built into the truck or not but the way the lower control arms snapped to give more room for crumple is actually genius
He may look at this video and say well that truck took that collision really well. But that's at 35 mph sudden stop no breaks. The average speed on a Michigan expressway is over 83 miles an hour. Something to think about huh.
My 1989 gmc 2500 extended cab 8ft bed 5.7 4x4 took a head on impact at 50 mph and with no air bags and I got out with no scratch on me and I still was able to fix it back to how it was
I have seen wrecks that cars hit the back end from the side and flips the truck and totaled them. And even if they have minor damage it takes over a month to get parts if not longer to fix them.
@@effend446 that doesn’t make the test any less dangerous. However, it may be that the tank is full of an inert liquid, such as water or heavy oil to remove the fire risk.
For all of you answering my question, thanks for your responses. I researched the matter and found that IIHS is aware that 17 gallons of premium unleaded is more than enough to burn down their state-of-the-art testing facility and injure their workers (and test dummies). So the Institute removes and flushes the gasoline (or diesel) from every test car. In its place, IIHS puts a liquid similar to paint thinner called Stoddard Solvent mixed with purple dye. This industrial solvent has a similar density to gasoline but is less flammable. Russ Rader of IIHS told BestRide, “We start out knowing how much the fluid in the tank weighs so if there is a leak, we can determine how much of the fluid leaked.” How much leaked is a good indication of whether a fire might have occurred in the real world. IIHS tells us that they have “…seen fuel leaks, although it hasn’t happened in a long time.” blog.bestride.com/news/safety-and-recalls/why-dont-gasoline-powered-cars-ever-blow-up-or-catch-fire-when-crash-tested/
I witnessed a head on accident between a 2008 chevy silverado 2500 with the 6.0 gass engine and a 2018 ford flex. Both vehicles were going around 60 miles per hour. The driver of the ford flex fell asleep and crossed the centerline into the path of the chevy 2500. The colision tore the front off of the flex and shoved the engine and transmission down and under the firewall. Both the driver and passenger doors of the flex still opened and closed as if the wreck had never happened. From the firewall back everything was still in place. Thr cab of the 2500 chevy was soved so far back that the drver had to be cut from the cab and life flighted to a local trama center for immediate open heart surgery for heart and chest trama from the dash and steering wheel being shoved into him and trapping him in the truck. That truck folded up like a pop can.
It could have had a full tank of water or something else just to test the tank with a a full load of "fuel" to make sure it doesn't detach itself from the vehicle and create a fire risk. It's probably a part of the testing to make sure the fuel tank is full weight.
Also, liquid keeps moving forward with sudden stop of vehicle. That force of liquid puts extra stress on tank, bracing etc. Like other comments, if the tank ruptures with fuel in it, there's extra problems @@ttank1994
