01:49 The Sash my Father Wore
02:25 The Wearing of the Green
These two marches are quite controversial as they represent respectively the Protestant and the Roman Catholic traditions present in the whole geographical island of Ireland.
It represents that both traditions serve in the Irish Guards and fight shoulder to shoulder.
If one march is played then the other must be played directly after it.
I suspect the Sash is being played this week as on the 12th of July Protestants celebrate the defeat of the deposed the Catholic King James II by
Protestant King William III at the Battle of the Boyne river on the 12/07/1690.
This kept the English throne Protestant which kept Britain free and Independent and away from indirect French Rule which would have happened if James had been able to regain his throne.
France, not having to worry about England, would then have been in a much stronger position to take over and rule all of Europe, including the Italian states.
The Pope had actually given William soldiers and had blessed the standards carried by the European soldiers that came to support William.
Such as the Pope was scared of France becoming powerful.

The two pipe tunes you refer to are part of a standard set routinely performed by the P&D of the Irish Guards: Enniskillen Dragoons, Kelly The Boy from Killane, Minstrel Boy, The Sash my Father Wore, the Wearing of the Green, then back to Enniskillen Dragoons and Kelly the Boy from Killane. That sequence was followed by another standard set of theirs, the company marches of 1st Battalion, Irish Guards: Star of the County Down, the Holy Ground, the Boys of Wexford, the Green Glens of Antrim, and South Down Militia.

@@e.chambers2973 Thanks for the info. That’ll be of use to many.
I served 26 years in two of the Irish Regiments and did many Parades, BoR’s etc.
I’m presuming from your knowledge that you were in?
I knew a couple of Chambers but they were Royal Irish Rangers Bandsmen.

@@bugler75 Sorry to disappoint. Very fond of the Irish Guards and their wonderful bands - p&d, corps of drums and wind band - and I'm delighted to know there has been a Chambers or two who played with the Royal Irish Rangers. But, I have never been a member of an Irish regiment or indeed any regiment. My previous comment was based solely on auditory observation. The Irish regiments have sensibilities all their own - another observation - so I trust your 26 years with two of them brought you enduring friendships and experiences of the best possible kind. Up the Micks and their regimental compatriots!

@@e.chambers2973 I must say that your knowledge is superbe Sir!
The Irish Regiments certainly are unique in the British Army, that’s for sure.
If the bosses only knew the origins and words of some of the music!
I do miss my time in the Army, particularly making music.
Anyway, we’ll both continue to enjoy all types of military music thanks to channels like this!
      All the best to you,
      Ian
