I will NEVER forget the night that Susan Lucci won. To this day when I watch this most magical night I still cry. Susan is defiantly the greatest of all time.
My mom has been a fan of AMC since it began and we watched it all the time with her. So we were huge fans of Susan Lucci. She and I were watching and we started screaming and cheering so loudly we scared my poor dad and my husband nearly to death. 😂
I recall that my twin brother and father went to the SF Giants baseball game the night of this Emmys broadcast. Midway through the game, they provided a bulletin on the stadium screen about Lucci winning. Even at a sports game, the crowd went WILD at her winning! That's how much support Lucci had and still has to this day.
You know I'm not a Susan Lucci fan but look how long it took her to get an Emmy when so many other AMC characters have moved on and got Emmy's AKA Marcy Walker.
That was so rude of them to tell Susan Lucci to wrap it up! This was such a wonderful and DESERVED win, as evident by the amazing standing ovation she received. If she wanted to give an hour long acceptance speech, let her do it. She earned her right to be up on that stage after all those nominations and the likely humongous amounts of profit the networks made, given the "will she or won't she win?" mystery was a ratings score. I'm glad Lucci mentioned that so the audience could provide the well deserved heckling to the producers. Way to go Lucci! You earned that Emmy! Thanks so much for all your contributions to daytime and to All My Children as the amazingly multi-layered Erica Kane!
@@ErickGainesSanders thanks for the correction. I honestly don't care at this point and he nonetheless was producing the show and ought to have told his staff beforehand, "If she wins, don't cut her off. Let her talk for as long as she wants".
Lucci's win is legendary! And I'm glad they let her all the time she needed for her speech (normally those things are tightly timed, but not for her, and that was good!)
I loved that Susan Lucci won, but what was even better was that everybody in that place was on their feet cheering! They really *_WANTED_* her to win and it shows!
It is unfortunate Susan Lucci's win kind of rushed the top award but I don't think anyone would complain really. I mean this was big. Bigger than big. the music playing I suppose was necessary but I think everyone wanted to hear her speech and it must h ave been kind of daunting to have such along and genuine standing ovation. And Susan delivered an amazing speech with grace and humbleness. I also loved how she was so genuine about her love and thankfulness for her children and husband and even the man who helped her up the stairs. I read somewhere that people didn't like her hair or dress but really she didn't need any more glamour. That speech and that Emmy was all anyone needed.
This was an amazing night for ABC soaps. They cleaned up! And anybody else notice that Susan Lucci was the only ABC soap actress nominated jn her category!
@@brklyn345Huh?? I follow soaps and daytime pretty closely and have never heard anything about this [Erika Slezak being nominated for a 1999 Daytime Emmy then withdrawing it because she felt Susan Lucci had the better storyline]…… Did you mean that she didn’t submit her name for contention at the 99 Daytime Emmys? Also, ABC likely wouldn’t have allowed and/or been happy with this if for no other reason than Robert S. Woods was the lone nomination received by OLTL in any of the nine major categories (Series, Writing, Directing, Acting).
So glad they let Susan have this moment and didn't rush her... you can also tell by the auidence's reaction how beloved she is within the community and amongst her peers.
Tears for Stuart Damon. Loved him so much. I caught it when Wendy Richie said “ blessings to Another World”; did it go off the air then? Is that what she was talking about?…
there is a teeny, tiny, very, very small chance I MAYBE have something from '98. Maybe. Like...very small so don't get your hopes up! If I remember over the weekend, I'll check the tapes I still have and if there's anything from that year (or any other year) I'll try to post it in the next couple weeks. But again - I really don't think I have any other Daytime Emmy stuff....so don't be too hopeful!
I was actually surprised that Susan won for the storyline featuring Bianca's anorexia. I thought she would submit the scenes where she was sporting that Phantom of the Opera mask after the car crash with David Hayward, being that it was based on something that happened to her in real life.
She wouldn't have been able to for 1999 since those tapes were broadcast in 1999. The elibigility period for the 1999 Daytime Emmys was January 1, 1998 to December 31, 1998. But I agree that she did great acting in that Phantom of the Opera/car crash consequences storyline!
@@cajayson8301 Which is interesting given that FYI did not believe me when I said Cady did not submit anything from 2004 for her 2004 win. Those clips do not all represent submitted reels.

What a beautiful woman Inside and Out. So gracious and loving and a wonderful wonderful actress.

Oprah Kelly tips and all were adamant Lucci speak
Jacob Young was always so under rated. He nailed the Rick Forrester rol.
That true 👍 I think they sometimes set to a particular star ..like Jonathan Jackson GH
Even Michael George from Sunset Beach and Jensen Buchanan and Days and Joshua Marrow

huh? Her hair and dress were great.
She looked gorgeous. She always does. There are always going to be haters. They’re just jealous.
Wow, what devotion to Susan Lucci!! About time!!!
I remember watching this with mom and with my sister's we were all so happy
My mom watched All My Children every day. When Susan Lucci FINALLY won that Emmy, she was bawling like a baby.
Susan Lucia is STILL the queen of daytime although we lost All My Children

OMG Dean Winchester was nominated for an Emmy that year for Days of our Lives. 😮🙏🏻. J/K Jensen was super hot even back then!!!!
I miss all the great shows!
This was so epic on this Daytime Emmy Award.
Watching this shows how good soaps used to be. GH was pure gold then. It sure isn't the same anymore
And guess who was headwriting? People need to blame Frons and Jill for that mess.
WAIT! ARETHA WAS A SURPRISE!!! OH HELL YES!!! 😍
Tears for Stuart Damon. Loved him so much. I caught it when Wendy Richie said “ blessings to Another World”; did it go off the air then? Is that what she was talking about?…
Yes, this was AW’s last year.
I could have done without her idiotic, political gun control rant. It had nothing to do with winning the award. She has always disgusted me.
Another World was awesome
Lily & Holden! Loved them on ATWT!
Josh & Reva! Loved them on GL!
I was hoping Rebecca herbst would have won for her rape storyline. She was fantastic.
Completely agree
100 percent agree!! Excellent acting by a young actress!!
13:22 GH montage was pretty good!
Good Lord JJ was so cocky and full of himself! 🙄
Shemar Moore was in absolute fan mode presenting that award to Susan Lucci! What a moment!
Rebecca was robbed on this one. But of course they couldn't have General Hospital win them all
She was excellent portraying a young rape victim.
Loved Aretha as host ♥️!
As an Italian, I didn't know Jensen Ackles was a famous soap-opera actor at the beginning of his career: such a surprise!
Why no supporting actress clip? Sharon Case of Y&R. Brava LaLucci!
