I got my Pumi as a rescue in Progreso Mexico! I thought he was a poodle terrier mix until a friend told me he was a Pumi! He hates the pool but loves to bark and run in the waves!

How cool & thanks for watching! Yes, with all the poodle mixes these days, we can see how easy it would be to classify these dogs as one. That's so funny that he hates the pool but loves the waves! Is he super high energy?

I have a 3 y.o. Pumi ... great dog ... he rules the house ... very alert ... very vocal and very aggressive when herding other dogs who don't want to be herded ... no shedding, no odor ... I would not recommend the breed for just anybody ... probably not a good choice for a first dog owner ... or an apartment dweller ... he is very smart and thinking all the time.

Thanks for watching and your very helpful feedback! They definitely sound like a breed that needs a job and some space. With that intelligence level, would you say that they are easy to train?

@@DogNerdShow Yes ... he's easy to train ... he wants constant human interaction ... he makes constant direct eye contact with me ... that factor is very important to evaluate a dog's ability to communicate ... wary of strangers ... but a very loving personal pet

We have a Pumi who is 7 yrs and full of pizazz and energy! We’ve learned how to groom her ourselves and because she is a “rugged” breed and curly, we do our best and she pretty much looks the same. She is very very vocal and active, a very good sentry!

We love that adjective to describe her, "full of pizazz!" That's awesome that you learned how to groom her yourself. Thanks so much for watching and sharing with us!

Thanks for doing an episode on the pumi! Since you ask…I’d have liked to learn a bit more about trainability and grooming needs. My first knowledge of the breed came from a freestyle (dog dance) routine-I’m pretty sure at Crufts-years ago. It was to the tune of “Home (is wherever I’m with you).” The suitcase trick in particular stuck in my mind-such an adorable pup popping in and back out like a jack-in-the-box! So I read up on the breed. What I retain is that the breed is very trainable, and I took this to mean biddable. Also that the grooming needs are pretty intense. This referred to show grooming, as the ears need to present “just so” and the coat kept a certain way. Without grooming some of that adorability from the way the ears are done, like semi-erect pom-poms, tends to disappear. I have tried and tried to relocate the recording of that dance routine at Crufts, with no success. I’m commenting from memory, and would do more up-to-date research if considering the breed. Cool podcast! Just discovered you! I enjoy the owner interviews as well as your dog-knowledgeable insights and fun, “co-hosts-in-front-of-microphones” format. Hats off!

I’d like to add that there is (and I just found it) a TH-cam video titled “Sweden - amazing dancing dog […]” that features a phenomenal trainer working on an incredible dance routine with a pumi.

Oh how sweet 🥰 I've never heard of the Pumi, but she is adorable! The no shedding is definitely a good thing...I have a little Terrier mix ( rescue), and she barks when ANYONE touches the front door 😅 We also have a golden ( she was my dad's companion dog before he passed last summer), and a black lab ( my husband's hunting dog). We recently lost our yellow lab ( another rescue who gave us 8 yrs of unconditional love and was the most gentle giant ♥️🐾)

Isn't she cute?! Definitely an active dog, but such a great size. We're so sorry to hear about your dad, how wonderful that you are caring for his dog now. I'm sure that would make him so happy. With a terrier mix, golden, and lab, you know about shedding! ;) Thanks so much for watching and your comment!

@@DogNerdShow ty Megan ❤️! Oh the shedding...I can fill a vacuum canister in 10 minutes, and I vacuum at least 3x a week! I just shave the Golden twice a year, and it fills a 13 gallon trash bag!

The Pumi is so cuuuuute. Never heard of this breed before. I will not get a Pumi however as I'm looking for a couch potato dog. Can you do a video on these types of dogs?
