He literally said he had to dub over the original because Americans had trouble understanding him. What you’re hearing in the movie is not the accent he believes he had perfectly. It’s the altered version for American audiences.

I agree. The movie was awful. Anyone who liked it was either on drugs or has really bad taste in movies.
The accent was horrible. It added nothing to the character. An accent for an accent’s sake is simply a bad accident.
