You're mate charlie is right England haven't got enough quality players at test match level and if France click at Twickenham could be embarrassing for England 🏉🌹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🧐

I'm Italian. Regarding Italy my point of view is that players are there, what we lacked is conceding too much easy tries at the start, our defensive coach changed not too much months ago, there's things to be addressed in defence but Quesada do not have much time with the guys tontrain them properly (now most of our players are playing in Top 14 and is difficult for the National Team having all them at disposal during training session..that by the way aren't already a lot). Also the attacking phases seemed not cohesive to me.
The phisical performance is there, but the guys lack time togheter to try, try and try again defensive and offensive schemes. That's the main issue we have now.

attack seemed more fluid last year. Quesada obviously trying for more consistency. Hope he doesn't dampen Italian flair too much.

Watched your Rugby Paper appearance last week - well done - reason why Guscott threw the question back at you, Rich, is cos JG only has eyes for the Premiership (& hence why he'd no clue about URC) he was busy lauding England's players as per (despite 3 Autumn defeats) while ignoring Leinster's unbeaten start. . .

It wasn't a good sign that Ireland went to sleep for last 10 minutes after they secured the bonus point.

Maybe part of the reason why Finn was a bit off his game was because he played the weekend before for Bath against Sale. I don't see why rugby can't do the one thing that football does well and have an international window for all players. Oh wait, I do - the power of the Premiership and the Top 14 versus the Unions. It might not be the whole reason, but until that gets sorted out, the system will never be entirely fair, and we won't see the best of all the best players.

Yeah. I was surprised to see Kinghorn playing in the Toulouse team earlier in the week ?? I understand now. You scotts have to sort this out. In a recent era when France rugby was at the bottom (being demolished by the ABs in a WC (2015 or something) ) this issue was seriously discussed and negotiated between the FFR and the clubs. That was the start of a great recovery for the performance of the national team.

In the media there has been too much criticism of the England performance, particularly of Borthwick. Discipline was a big issue and we were on the wrong side of the ref. It caused a consistent loss of momentum. It was a 5 point game, the better team won.
On the issue of Englands attack, perhaps the coaching is the underlying problem. Our attack coach is unproven at any level and needs changing in my view. Loved Lawrence, his best for England, Slade did ok, but we miss huge opportunities and rarely finish accurately.

I think a lot of people see the Italian game very differently. Italy were good and resilient, but realistically all of their points were completely against the run of play, and down to Scotland errors.
In actual open play they couldn’t even get up to the 22. Scotland were inconsistent, and tbh that was mainly only Russell being sloppy for large portions of the game. Could’ve easily been a 40 point game, the scoreline was just very flattering for Italy in my opinion.
And if Russell has a good game like he tends to do deeper into the tournament, then the game is completely different. I still think it’s difficult to separate France Ireland and Scotland at this time based on first week performances, all 3 looked sloppy and made mistakes, and I think it’s difficult to count England out of beating either France or Scotland and effectively deciding the winner of the 6N.
Sadly, I think wales will be truly beaten every game. Their system looks great, nice shape and they follow the system well. But the players just aren’t there to match it. I think they have the worst squad and squad depth player for player in the tournament by a decent margin

Like this format. Dupont wondering around freely behind the second row . England need to assign somebody the PSDT role and tackle him. If the second row block. Easy penalty.

You didn't do predictions for Scotland v Ireland guys 😱, is that because it's hard to call 😛. I'm going to be biased here and say we'll scrape the win as we're due one over Ireland and we're at home 😁😁.

An interesting statement almost condemning a rusty team that “isn’t particularly bad, but not particularly good” that wins 5=1 on tries and 31-19 overall.

I though Wales played incredibly well! Irishman here. They hadn't enough guile going forward or in defence for two tries. Also the ref was a France and Dupoint fanboy and let them away with far too much. France would have won but by 15 ish

Statistically Ireland had more turnovers than England, how with 3 sevens? I also see in comments some referee complaints. I understand the Lowe one as I was thinking he was going for 10. The lineout pen was after a specific warning to them for the same offence which England fans seem to ignore. They also ignore the trip on Lowe, a yellow all day. The stamp on Hansen, a yellow at least. The shoulder charge on Conan a yellow and a penalty try. If the ref was spot on in the game it would have been worse for England! I realise you’re all happy with the first half but tactically that was how Ireland played it. If the ball had gone to hand more Ireland would have been in front by half time and on my count left 5 tries out there. The England players aren’t fit enough to play this style of defence. They left so many gaps which we didn’t exploit coz of bad handling. Then the last 2 tries were when the game was over and included a knock on also ignored by the ref

Yes also Marcus Smith shouldered Lowe to the head whilst Lowe was on the ground - Lowe tried to get back at Smith (who ran away after his cheap shot) and Steward got in the way, initiating their horizontal brawl (there's a video about it on the rugbyunion subreddit). England basically had a policy of upsetting Ireland with off-the-ball stuff, hoping to disrupt Ireland's rhythm and maybe trigger some players (which they succeeded in doing with Lowe.) The reaction to Keenan being tackled in the air by CCS has to be seen in that context.

I was impressed with England's Defence That was much improved from the Autumn The starting 15 does however need tweaking in the backrow i would have started with T.Hill at 6 B.Curry at 7 and T.Willis at 8 and coming off the bench T.Curry / or C.C.South [ depending on opposition ] and B.Earl H.Randell was very disappointing when he came on and so i would change him for J.V.POORLIET In the backline T.Freeman has to start at 13 and T.Roebuck comes onto the wing along with O.Slightholm While F.Steward gets another opportunity at 15 with E.Daly covering on the bench

Italy could have won that game ? Yes I suppose, but they lost 5-1 on tries. Every single point that they got was given to them by a rusty Scotland. It could have been and should have been 50/60 for Scotland. One thing for sure though if Scotland’s discipline in the break down is as poor against Ireland as it was against Italy , then Scotland will have no chance….

If the Netflix series is an accurate reflection of the England camp, it’s a toxic, juvenile, negative work environment (Scotland to some extent as well, by the way). I can guarantee you the Irish camp is not remotely like that.
England are not going to develop and get the best out of players with an environment like that.
“Ireland ground out the win”. I suggest you rewatch that match. After 20 minutes it was all Ireland, and in the second half Ireland annihilated England.
Ireland will smash Scotland next week.

I really don't know about the environments in the various camps, all I know is what I see on the pitch and the public statements of the players and coaches. From those, I do get the impression that the Ireland camp is a positive, constructive place. The others, I don't know, but if they are dysfunctional, more fool them.

I think it’s dangerous to infer too much from performances game to game in the 6N as the weekend’s fixtures tend to be self contained contextually and events in of themselves. For example, there’s no way Wales will be this bad against us (England) and the Ire v Scotland game will be very fiercely contested as well. I think England have flattered and if our attack stutters this badly later in the tournament, we may end battling it out in the last game for 4th/5th place. I hope I’m wrong.

Individual skills let England down, and with rose tinted glasses a few questionable ref decisions. The main one that rankled was giving out a warning then not following through with it; kind of just undermines you as a referee straight of the bat. Is Marcus better as a second playmaker at 15? We seem to score more when he is in this position and defensively can't be worse than Steward as he just gets stepped every time its a one on one; seems to be at least once a game and almost always a try because of his position.
Or is Marcus your better 23rd man? Covers two positions to a high standard and that high pace off the bench could make a great impact, start with the in experienced (at test level) Finn then Marcus comes on to finish, similar to how Crowley just saw the game out.
But I really think we need to try someone else at 12, Slade does some beautiful kicks but I think I've seen him drop the ball 2 - 3 times every game in attack recently and it just takes all the momentum out and often means we are 20-30m back from where we just were. I don't think one or two decent grubbers a game is enough to warrant a place in the starting line maybe even the 23. We talk about partnerships mattering, put Dingwall back in for Mitchell, Will Butt or Ojomoh for Lawrence, if he wasn't going to France it could be Anyanwu for the Quins connection with Marcus. Any of those combinations gives a club link, instead we are sticking with the same partnership that's one of our longest ever in midfield but is being absolutely carried by one player; Lawrence.
Does Sleigthome come straight back in if his thigh injury is sorted or would that destroy Murleys confidence; or is it a tactical change and you go Roebuck for a better under the highball option.
For the future does Pollock offer a lineout option as well? I know he jackals but if he can do both does this mean you could have him and a Curry whilst not sacrificing the lineout.
Would be interested in your thoughts in the above, I'm no expert but almost more disappointed that it felt like we should of got more out of that game; Ireland needed individual brilliance, all their tries came from distance as our last stand defence was amazing.

Fair assessment there. Your point about Slade is particularly accurate, too slow, no physical presence or threat whatsoever. Every top international side has at least one powerful ball carrier in the centres, and as a result, it allows direct attack and a focal point to hold defence and play out the back. This has been a problem for a long time for England

As an Ireland fan I have some thoughts on England. It's only a hunch but I think England clawing back that bonus point against us will be a big boost and I can just see England having more belief against the French.....and it's at Twickenham. I see a very narrow English victory, and assuming Ntmack will face a ban and won't be available might help. I'll also go against the grain and predict Wales to beat Italy in a close battle, as a reaction to their big loss. As for Scotland Ireland, I think it will be similar to previous games between the two , Scotland will play their exciting rugby and score tries, but there will be that 20 minute slack period in their game and Ireland will take advantage , I think a bonus point win for Ireland, but not an easy win by any means. 4 tries to 3 would not surprise me. Ireland's difficult opposition with England vs Scotland's relatively easy win against Italy could be a factor going in to the game.

IF Scotland manage a win over Ireland the competition is over as regards winner. France will walk it. England do have a chance but France need a bad day at the office. I think England did better than people think and therefor Ireland are equally better than we think. Come on England! (and Ireland!!!)
