  • Here is my soft whole wheat flour tortilla recipe you guys asked for. I used King Arthur's Whole Wheat flour which has a coarse texture. You can use any wheat flour of your choice. These tortillas are higher in fiber and have an earthier taste. I like to think its a healthy recipe. They are great for a healthier taco Tuesday or a delicious wrap. Hope you like it! :)
    INGREDIENTS
    3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
    1/3 cup coconut oil
    2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp to 1 tsp salt
    1 1/2 cups hot water
1 tbls extra oil or coconut oil (for hands and work surface)

Hmmm - the idea regarding to keeping the moisture in is interesting. I've been making pizza dough and other things using whole wheat flour - and during the first few tries I did get a great tasting dough, but lately they've been firm and dry - and I couldn't figure out why the dough I made a long time ago tasted so much better. I suspect it's because I kept more moisture in. Recently I've gotten much better at working with whole wheat flour, but only because I kept it dry throughout the process- so it didn't stick to fingers, but if moisture is the key, it would explain why while working with the dough has been so much easier as of late, but the taste was so much more inferior to what I made during my first two tries.
    Anyways, great video - cheers.

What could cause them not to puff? I am used fresh milled hard wheat so guessing that could be the problem. This is by far the best recipe. Other recipes i tried were too dry. I’m just now trying to figure out thickness and why they aren’t puffing like yours. Flavor is outstanding. By far best video with details I’ve seen this far.

Thank you so much for this recipe, growing up Mexican it's hard to get away from white flour tortillas . So when my doctor told me I could no longer have white flour, my world was crushed. So I went to the store to buy whole wheat tortillas and They have no flaver, they were cardboard texture too. So after seeing this recipe I tried it and I'm in love with it. Thanks again.

I watched this video last night and since I had a bag of KAF white wheat flour sitting in the back of my pantry (for ages) I decided to make these this morning. I used light tasting EVOO and wow, these tortillas came out amazing! They even puffed up while cooking (my suegra must love me, lol) and were soft and supple! Thank you for a wonderful recipe, now I have an excuse to use up the rest of that bag!

We love filling tortillas with hummus, lots if veggies and falafel, or making Enchilladas, but have always failed to create soft tortillas. Also, the storebought ones have so much stuff in them that we don't want to put into our bodies, so I am really looking forward to try out your recipe!!! 🤩
PS: I noticed when working with coconut oil that it tends to be very moist in the dough (which is awesome for gooey cakes etc.), so maybe the dough may not be as sticky using other oils. 🤷‍♀️

Just tried making these :) I used canola oil instead (1/3 cup), and the dough came out VERY wet and sticky :S But I still managed to get it into a ball (I cheated and used just a tiny bit of extra flour). I also added a bit of garlic powder to the flour mix. I've made flour tortillas before, but this dough was SUPER soft and the tortillas turned out really good :) Thanks for sharing!

Would like to know how long can you keep n do you need to keep inside the fridge if not use?

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Tortillas do not last long in my house. I did have four left over and kept them in a Ziploc bag on the kitchen counter overnight. I reheated them and used them for breakfast tacos and a quesadilla. To be honest, they are best eaten the same day. Anything kept after 24 hours will get dry and hard. A commenter was nice enough to give a helpful tip about freezing the dough and thawing for later use. 😊

You're the queen of the tortillas. I already tried your soft flour recipe and they came out delicious. This whole wheat version just popped up today on TH-cam. Can't wait to give it a try. You give all the details necessary to have the perfect tortillas. I stored them in the fridge with a damp towel, put the damp paper towel in between in a plastic bag sealed in order to retain the softness, then next day warm them up in an air fryer, a skillet or microwave for 2 - 3 minutes, and voila you'll have fresh tortillas for a week. Wish you much more success with your channel 🙏😀
