I'm not sure how much knowledge you've accumulated since you got your locs but my tips are: 1. Low manipulation while you're waiting for them to bud. Too much could ruin the chemistry of your locs 2. Be patient 3. Never tighten all of your new growth. It will give you a headache and you'll have to wait for it to grow to get some relief 4. A simple $2 rochet needle will work. Better grip & No need to break the bank on the tiny tools
Alicia Arnold how do you keep your ends together, is my question. I keep thinking I am going to immediately start interlocking.... But if I was it like every week it will unravel if I don't interlock. Help.. Haven't combed out the regular locs yet but they are to big for my lifestyle. I have Psioriatic Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and psoriasis in my scalp so I need to wash frequently. So regular locs are not the move.
I started microlocs by 2 strand twist the same time you did. I feel your pain. I took me 5 days. I did it myself. Glad I found someone doing it too!!! Looks good!!
The texture/final result of these starter microlocs is somethin different (said as a compliment). These are a different kind of gorgeous. I'm literally in love with the look it creates!
I started with mid back length hair and started the day after Thanksgiving and finished on Dec 1st. Did it mostly on my own. ( hubbie would tell me if my part wasnt straight and fix it if i couldnt) All i had was a metal rat tailed comb, spraybottle of water, and two hand held mirrors. Trust me......i know your struggle!!!! I have 460 locs and am absolutely loving the new found freedom! You guys did an excellent job! Thx for the video!!!🤩
No store bought products. Oils are great like peppermint, eucalyptus, coconut, grapeseed, moringa, fenugreek seeds. These my tips i have locks. Just like you I started my own. 12 yrs. Growing. Great job mom
Linda Jones, thank you for Sharing this tip. I learned how to do it on my daughter's hair, after finding out it would cost me $500 to do this on a 10 year old. It took me two days to learn, wnen ppl see my daughter's hair they say I should to it professionally. Do you loc professionally or just your own hair? I'm thinking about doing it, but $1500 for the class??? What do you think, is it worth it? Great Job, Tykara and mom!
U know what?! I'm learning that natural vs. store-bought is better for natural hair period. I'm not locked, but I'm about to start making my own leave-in. I saw TastePink's video on how she makes hers, n it looks easy n healthier for ur hair.
Those look amazing and I'm happy I seen someone do this method because I want to start my own I just don't know how to interlock . So thank you so much those are super cute
They look gorgeous. I did my own and it took me 5 days. I did braidlocs. Mine are 18 months old now and I couldn't love my hair more. Good luck with your journey.
LMBO mate...I felt your pain. Your mum did an awesome job. You have thick and long hair. ( big upps to mum). I hate sitting in the chair for so long but it was worth it. I am looking forward to your updates.
Please keep updating us on your hair. I was planning on interlocking my hair to start my micro loc journey. It would be the same size as yours. Your video has inspired me because I was feeling a little iffy about interlocking it, twisting it to start off never came to mind but I’m afraid of the slippage with the twist .. lmao keep us update please !!! Good luck on your new journey !! ❤️
OMG......I didn’t think to two strand instead of braiding. Seeing your video just save me some time. About to start my journey as well and not about to pay nothing for something I can do myself. Thanks ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Y'all did an awesome job. I've been wanting to see someone's journey with micro mini twists, so I'll keep my eye on ya. I personally hate sisterlocks, bc they are way too overpriced, and tribes have been doing microlocs for generations, but that's just me. Four days wasn't bad at all. You're gonna hate the monthly retightening, but you'll get used to it. Way better than trying to detangle, and style your loose natural hair lol.
I understand your frustration, but think about the investment please. Microlocks have been done by tribes however not interlocking. This was invented by a BLACK WOMAN. The years of research she had to go through to invent and prefect her process. It takes 8-14 hrs to put in braids and people happily pay the upward of $500 for that style the have to take out in 3 months.😒 Sisterlocs take any where from 18-28 hrs and can last a lifetime🤷 if they only got done in 10hrs and you had to pay $1,000 she only made $100 an hr for standing on her feet making those tedious small locks with perfect parting which was invited by the same woman. But seriously most installations take 28 hrs and they ONLY get $1,000 thats literally $35 a hour. Bruh if you think thats over priced your being unreasonable. It took 23 hrs and i paid $550 happily. We aint got no problem supporting white mans establishment when they charge $500 for a purse $200 for some shoes and not one nigga complain they being ripped off, but a black woman invented something and asks a decent price they complain, steal her idea allnd do it themselves. Smh🤦
@Sunday’s Honey i dont think i explained correctly. I have a friend spent $500 for a wig that was sew in, in about 2 hours, for a style that would last 1 month. But i told her i paid$550 for my sisterlocs that should last a lifetime and she thought i was nuts. Her hair dresser made $250 an hour. This is what i mean by ungrateful. No one is putting it in context. They see the price and say uppity black ppl, but dont see no problem paying the same price to our oppressors. This is what i mean. People lack understanding, regardless of the price. Sorry English is not my 1st language so maybe another word can be used instead of ungrateful, i just don't know it😪
Such a beautiful young lady. Your hair already looks amazing, your mom did an awesome job. looking forward to seeing how your hair transforms into beautiful locks. Enjoy the journey! 👌🏿😍👑
Just so you know, I watch this video when I feel the urge to cut off my hair, or relax it, or something crazy like that... It’s definitely inspirational... Thanks so much for sharing your journey!!!
Hi. Congrats on starting your locs. I started my locs myself with two strand twists and interlocking for retightening. I've been locd for three years now. You can do it! It's the best decision I ever made for my hair. Your hair looks beautiful
4:26 😩 I felt that. New subbie💫 I’ve been wanting to loc my hair since I was 30 I am now 40 and I’m now researching methods. I love your page and I see you having a very successful TH-cam page young queen 😌✨💕
love this video...mini twists (I haven't done micro locs) are an awesome way to start your journey because it allows you to figure out how small to make them, if you like seeing yourself with loc'd hair, and if you can handle the transition....and if you cant...you can take them out without damaging your hair as long as you aren't budding. I haven't made the transition to permanent locs but I do mini twists regularly and leave them in for 4-6 weeks and I LOVE THEM. I have done starter microlocs for other people and I recommend twists then interlocking rather than sisterlocs. yours are beautiful! one day I will join you!
They look good! I remember when I attempted this. It took me like a good two weeks to do mine. I honestly think more. Lol I so feel your pain, I think my hair was the length of yours. When it was time to retie is when I scratched the idea. I could not fathom having to retie all of those locs. I wish you luck!
Wow. Love this. Want to start mine like this but I don't think my mom or sisters would have the patience to help me or would part it as carefully as I would like. I really love how yours came out. Like your accent as well.
You, your hair and your personality are all beautiful! I’m still debating on if I should loc my hair. Don’t know if I’ll have time and patience to deal with it during nursing school, which I start in the Fall. Looking forward to following your journey!
Make sure to keep them moisturized and don’t stress as much. Stress affects your hair. I’ve had my braidlocs going on 4 years now. When u do certain styles like ponytails don’t make them tight. Embrace your loc journey queen 👑
I am going to color the front of my hair and start my own microlocs myself today. I have been reaching out to people for consultations and having people cancel on me. I appreciate your video your hair looks great!!! You have a great mom
Your locs are gorgeous! Your mom did a beautiful job! I was soo excited to see the end results I couldn’t wait lol! New Subscriber and I clicked the bell so I get all notifications! 🥰🥰😊
You have beautiful hair. Your locs look awesome! I was laughing at your frustration at the time it took to finish them because your hair is so thick. I'm surprised you finished in a week. Your mom did an excellent job.
New follower here! 👋🏾👋🏾 I too have 4b/c hair; some days lmnop hair 🧐😛. I am just now starting to educate myself on microlocks. I do know this is what I want. Now to watching TH-cam videos. Thank You!!
Hi dear , I’ve just finished mine after 3 days of doing it myself ! 🤛🏾 Yours looks amazing !!😍 Can you kindly share how long it toke before your second appointment. Thank you .
Im on this journey with you lil homie. Just finished mine Wednesday, haven't counted yet, still exhausted. but they are almost micro im thinking 300 locs, Ill let you know
Wow! How r you going to maintain them? And I have 612 sisterlocs But I only use shampoo I had to braid n band for like 9months or so. Get rose water It helped w my itchy scalp
@tykara. Ann thank you very much for this video. However I am still confused. Did you twist or really loc your hair. And if you ever decide to unbraid it. Would it be possible or do you have to shave it all off?
Maybe I missed this part, but I’m wondering did you use any type of gel or locking gel or locking cream on your 2-strand twists? If not, how did you prevent them from unraveling? Thank you!
I absolutely adore your hair I WILL be micro locing my hair inspired by YOU!! Your mom is amazing and patient. Did you use any product to twist with? I’m so crushing your hair GORGEOUS
Braids would be less voluminous because it's more compact than twists. I heard that braids take a lot longer to lose the pattern once the locking process starts.
I think the braids would shrink less because they are heavier than the twists. You wouldn't want to use any gels because you don't want to cause build up, the shrinkage is just apart of the process🙂
Would you recommend doing this on moisturized hair or product free hair? I have 4 tester locs in my hair but my hair isn’t product free yet. I have dry hair and I’m scared to start these on dry hair! Especially since it’s going to take me about 1-2 weeks to do them. I don’t want my hair to be that dry for that long! Help!
We used a little bit (and I mean the tiniest amount) of my moms homemade shea butter mix we on my hair. It was all natural made of pure whipped shea butter and oils. We also sprayed water on the sections before twisting. If you're afraid of your hair becoming very dry, I would recommend using a small amount of a moisturizing agent (preferably natural) so you won't begin your journey with possible build up. I hope that made sense 😂
💓
What type of hair products did you use while two stranding your hair? Or is it best to not use anything?
I think we’re separated sisters 🤔🤔🤔 our names are so similar we look similar.. can mom do mines ?
My name is Ty’kiara btw
honeyboo098765 😂
Donnetta Atkinson I didn’t use any products, just water.
Doing mine now..i should be done by this time next year 🤦🏾
Japara Butler lol😂🤣
😂😂😂 i do my own hair to and i don't have the patience like i use to but im gone try them and take about 50 breaks lol
Do u use anything in you hair when you do the twists?
Lol
😂😂😂😂😂 I can come over and help just have a lot of food 🤣.
You’re lucky having a mom that’s patient like that. My mom don’t even want to help me with cornrows 😭
LMAO
Staci Smith lol
🤣
Same lmao. Those days have been gone since I was 9 and I'm 25 now.
You're mom is the bomb! She did a really good job! She should be a sisterlock consultant
Shea Hinton 💓she says thanks💓
Cause I'll be damned if I have to pay 1000 on some damn locs lol I'll do it myself
That’s A WORD💅🏾
Khaliyah Taylor about to start mine tomorrow I’m not gonna pay that much
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks these prices are ridiculously high! Doing it myself
86Kera but these locs are also ridiculously tedious to complete. I’d probably charge that much too tbh
It took days?! Yall gotta be realistic
I'm not sure how much knowledge you've accumulated since you got your locs but my tips are:
1. Low manipulation while you're waiting for them to bud. Too much could ruin the chemistry of your locs
2. Be patient
3. Never tighten all of your new growth. It will give you a headache and you'll have to wait for it to grow to get some relief

@Kia you still have to pay $70 to $140 for reties every month. So it's not just $2000 for installation then bam you're done.
Such a beautiful young lady. Your hair already looks amazing, your mom did an awesome job. looking forward to seeing how your hair transforms into beautiful locks. Enjoy the journey! 👌🏿😍👑

Millah Does My Hair thanks! You should definitely try it✨
Same.
Wow. Love this. Want to start mine like this but I don't think my mom or sisters would have the patience to help me or would part it as carefully as I would like. I really love how yours came out. Like your accent as well.
sateenma1 thank you✨✨✨
I would be so scared of the breakage , my hair is really fine but I would soooooo love these, they almost look like sister locs 😩😭🙌🏾

You, your hair and your personality are all beautiful! I’m still debating on if I should loc my hair. Don’t know if I’ll have time and patience to deal with it during nursing school, which I start in the Fall. Looking forward to following your journey!
Neo Shante thank you!
I love how your locs came out! You are my favorite TH-cam Micro lock person
😊 thanks
When you shampoo your hair, braid and band. It looks great!
Cassandra Russell thanks you!
Love them! I was thinking about doing the same but I was worried that the 2 strand twist would unravel on their own.
Bridgett Tagoe thank you! I have not experienced any unraveling so far.
Make sure to keep them moisturized and don’t stress as much. Stress affects your hair. I’ve had my braidlocs going on 4 years now. When u do certain styles like ponytails don’t make them tight. Embrace your loc journey queen 👑
Thank you so much💖
Ur mom definitely loves you
Alexandria Wilson 😂
Each of your strands looks like some of my curls...in the nice part of my head. Lol
These are beautiful. Well done.

JustFe thank you! We didn’t really measure the parts but most of them are roughly between 1/8 of an inch and 1/4 of an inch.
Hello, your mother did a wonderful job on your hair . Absolutely outstanding 😍TFS.

I really like how these turned out. Did you use a certain grid pattern?
You did an amazing job. I also started with two strand twists and interlocked the roots.
marsimone1 thank you so much 😊
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! 🦃🍁
Kassey Vloggin’ happy thanksgiving to you too!!!
I want to start mine but Idk how i can make the parts straight/crab in the back 😩
Such an inspo! How did you twist your hair though? Was it just a normal two-strand twist, interlocking type of twist, or some type of mix?
Two strand twists
I just had to come back and watch again!😍🤩
your mom loves you SO much 😂😭
Wow!
How r you going to maintain them?
And I have 612 sisterlocs
But I only use shampoo I had to braid n band for like 9months or so.
Get rose water It helped w my itchy scalp
I interlock
My birthday is November 20th I love the timing of this
I always seem to make life changing decisions in november😁
Thank you!
I didn't use anything but water+oil mixture
Tiny twists don’t unravel easily.
I absolutely adore your hair I WILL be micro locing my hair inspired by YOU!! Your mom is amazing and patient. Did you use any product to twist with? I’m so crushing your hair GORGEOUS
Thank you! We didn’t use any product, good luck with your journey🤗
Thank you did you blow dry your hair after the clarifying wash? Like how did you stretch your hair before you sectioned it off
What type of hair products did you use while two stranding your hair?
Donnetta Atkinson just water mixed with oil(I believe it was jajoba)
I love your hair! ✨💖💖😍
ChloexHalleFan THANK YOU 😊🥰
I wantttttt ..im so jealous they are so nice but whhyyy does it have to take so longg. Sad face lol..love them
Wt do you think would b differences if you started them with braids in terms of shrinkage and volume
Braids would be less voluminous because it's more compact than twists. I heard that braids take a lot longer to lose the pattern once the locking process starts.
TyKara Ann do you think the braids would shrink less, and if yes do you think using a jel or something that causes holding would stop the shrinkage
I think the braids would shrink less because they are heavier than the twists. You wouldn't want to use any gels because you don't want to cause build up, the shrinkage is just apart of the process🙂
thank you :)
Jt Tj no problem✨
TyKara Ann thank you so much. I’m going to get some natural Shea butter and whip it up today!!!
