    I like your school of chromis. I wish more reefers would do that. Easy fish and very nice in schools. Long live the Queen

    Hi nathan, love the tank. Quick thing that may help with the questions your were answering at the start. Low magnesium is often down to not properly mixing the salt, if salt is mixed too quickly the magnesium doesn't have time to dissolve. Also elevated alk,cal can give slightly increase growth levels however the trade offs are massively reduced strength within the coral skeleton. Too high calcium can also make it more difficult for the corals to absorb the calcium this weakens the skeleton further as the ratio of carbonates increases without the added strength of the calcium. Polyp extension is much great at at a dKH of 8.
    Red sea coral colours are a great source of elements that are often forgotten, primarily potassium (K), i found that the recommended dose of that equal to ml of calcium used keeps then relatively correct however monthly checking with a potassium test is still needed as i had to bump them up every so often. Alternatively a triton icp-oes test is extremely useful for trace elements that are hard or impossible to test for with hobby grade test kits.
    One last thing i noticed with your doser, its not an issue at the moment but if you have to increase your alkalinity dose it may become one. As you have alkalinity and calcium dosing at the same time. This can cause precipitation of calcium carbonate as soon as they enter the water before equilibrium is established.

    Your a wild man. Great vid. You seem to be dosing a lot for just a few corals but what do I know I am on the other side of the pond. I love your lighting in your sump box

    A few things…
    Careful over sizing your heaters for the tank volume. Ideally have two and keep one ~2 degrees Celsius lower than the other. If you have too high of wattage, low local flow, or two heaters set to the same temperature their built-in thermostats will be triggering on and off too often causing unnecessary wear and possibly eventual failure - fish soup.
    Lastly, over-skimming is a very real issue and I would look to slowing your skimmer down rather than removing carbon filtration - if indeed your system was running too clean. Reason being, carbon removes more than just organics. People who don't run carbon will find during water changes that their water coming out is discolored compared to freshly mixed saltwater. Among all other issues, this discoloration or turbidity can easily reduce light intensity by 30% and lead to bleaching if resolved too quickly.

    Hi Nathan. Love watching your updates. Had a Red Sea E260 up and running for 3 weeks now. Taken your idea for using the marine pure, mine due this week. Had a problem with green algae over my live rock, no stock in it at moment as still getting my levels right but just bought a phos reactor with rowa phos to use which I hope will get rid of it. Sorry to hear about your tang. Any ideas would be greatful. A video on how you mix your salt and do your change I would love to see. Keep up the good work mate. Martin. Warwickshire .

    Wow!! beautiful, is automation too expensive?
    I want to buy some 250 reefs, but every video I see the whole mechanism www !! I can do that?. I have freshwater. But I always wanted a saltwater tank.
    I would have it, but with the COVID-19 everything has stopped sales and shops.
    Thanks Nathan.
    Great Job and beautiful tank. congratulation.

    Hi Nathan, appreciate the update. I have found it very useful. Like you i have the reefer 250 and I'm pretty much all set up with equipment however I'm planning to purchase a doseing unit. Therefore i found this video particularly useful.
    I have a couple of questions for you. Are your containers 1.5litre for each line?
    Do you mix the same amount of powder ever time with quality quality 1. 5litres. If so how much do you mix for alk/can & mag

    How happy are you with the size or dimensions of your tank? I'm moving up from a jbj 30 and the reefer 250 was the one I wanted, but would you recommend a different size or any other reasons, like filling up the tank too fast or is it a nice size to be able to stock fish and coral for awhile?

    Hi again Nathan.. Hope everything is running sweet. Quick question. Your set up is very similar to mine wanted to know about how to feed. Bought a couple of algae eating blennies and some food flakes recommended by my local supplier. When I place the flakes in it just floats out towards the skimmer vents at the back. Should I be turning all the pumps off when feeding this, how do you feed yours. Many thanks.

    Been looking on a website that sell the Red Sea reefer, they say 250L but they say that’s with the sump volume, it looks like your tank hold 250L without the sump, what is the volume of your tank and then with the sump

    • @nathanqwerty1
      @nathanqwerty1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The total system is 244 L, 190L in display, all volumes are on Red Sea website bud

    Really good videos, I'm a newbie planning my first tank - simple question would you recommend the
    Reefer 250 as a first tank ?

    • @nathanqwerty1
      @nathanqwerty1  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi tony, cheers, yes buddy the bigger the better as water parameters are more stable and gives you scope for error. small tanks under 170 litres and nano tanks are very challenging and for experienced aquarist only really
