    The story of a friendship that all started as Montserrat Caballé stood up for Marilyn Horne in Lucrezia Borgia (Donizetti) in New-York in 1965.
    Interviews 1983, 1987 and short excerpts of « Semiramide » (Rossini) in Aix-en-Provence in 1980.

    It is a real pleasure for me to see and hear Miss Cabelle talk about her friendship with Miss Horne. You can just feel the affection and respect they have for each other as they sing together every time I've seen them. The Barcarolle where they are holding balloons was a delight. I think "Jackie" helps her friend as they sing together holding hands...so very sweet a friendship not often seen among many who might be trying to outshine the other. Not so here...just perfect harmony! BRAVA!

    She was so adorable! That 1:20 for example when she says that she "didn't understand a thing" (freely translated) and rolled her eyes - so funny! Also, she was not such a diva at all - like people tend to assume. But she was divine.
    Rest in peace, my queen ❤

    Wonderful interview. So nice to have English subtitles for those of us who speak only English. Well done! I love Caballé so much. 🎶❤️🎶

    well said kasha. i knew nothing about them until a few weeks ago when i watched them perform "Belle Nuit" in Munich. when they walked on stage they were holding hands. i was surprised to see that, and then seeing this video it all makes sense. such a lovely friendship, and their mutual love and respect for one another not only shows in their performance, but i think enhances it as well.

    not the "paroxysm of our friendship" but the "sublimation" or maybe "climax" of our friendship and musical union "may have taken place in Aix for Semiramide." A fuzzy DVD is available of that performance and it's worth getting. The costumes are beyond weird but the duet is amazing.

      I agree. their singing is wonderful and costumes make me laugh!

      The costumes are similar to Lucia Terrani's version with Katia Racciarelli. I don't mind Semiramide an Arsace's ones. But the male costumes... lol, weird is a charitable description.

    scusate, Marilyn Horne doveva interpretare Lucrezia Borgia che è per soprano?

    • @fan2jnrc
      @fan2jnrc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Young Horne began as soprano yes. Surprisingly she was once a good soprano, there's some recordings of her as soprano on YT.

    Moral of video. . .compliment a diva lavishly and uniquely and she'll be your best friend forever :) This is so awesome!

      I read in a Swedish Newspaper (I am Swedish) long ago, that Montserrat is no real diva. She is too kind and considerate! Also my tribute Horne and her great heart. Two real role-models.
