    I’ve been using these sweeps for 20 years and he explained them very succinctly. I will tell you one thing I teach: Never let go of the sleeve. You can better control the recovery scramble and often dictate the pass-positioning by keeping their arm straightened and under pressure. Steer it over their face, or keep it pinned away from them, sometimes you can or may need to exchange you sleeve gripping hand but do not release the sleeve and keep your hooks under pressure until you set up and complete the scramble to pass. Very good sweeps and they never age out!

    Appreciate the slow motion replays as it helps to allow the movements to sink in more deeply.

    This is gold, I wish all instructors taught beginners from conceptual perspective, that way you can start to do something when rolling even when you don't know many techniques yet

    I’m only a white belt so obviously haven’t learned much but how simple this just made sweeps seem is amazing I can’t wait to get back on the mats and try all I’ve been learning from professor Tom after this lockdown... many of these I wish I was taught it my first few months honestly

    If I could only follow one BJJ channel on TH-cam, it would The Grappling Academy. Professor Tom's explanations/demonstrations of each technique are incredibly easy to follow/understand.

    This is a great one and works very well! Pro tip: Hang on to that sleeve and as they go down they will pull you right up on top of them, use their momentum. I usually end up in their half guard but it's easy to pass if you control their leg until you get your leg out and you should end up on top side control.

    Thank you for these concept videos. You nailed it when you said understanding the principles allows you to create techniques and understanding concepts is what has helped me develop more. I appreciate this as a 6'2" 270lb competitor who cant close my guard around my opponents and their typically large midsection. I've been working on my butterfly/sitting guard and I think learning how to transition when they stand will help me and my game. Thank you and I love this style video where you teach the principle and slow it down to emphasize the important parts.

  • @jaredmoglia711

    How do you explain some people being swept with just one ankle and one hip/double hip control? Do they just have bad balance?

    • @Velyren
      @Velyren 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are most likely not reinforcing against the pressure with their free leg. Example: Hips staying squared up instead of bladed.

    so many BJJ "instructors" lately making videos. just like karate in the 80´s. guys that have a belt but have never been in a fight. hard to teach what you do not know for real.
