    Great video, that looks like quite a descent little unit. THis would make drying filament a lot easier and it does act as an awesome spool holder as well. Thanks for sharing.

    I just got mine and it came with short "Teflon tubes" which fit in the outlets. Comes with plenty spares and the inner diameter perfectly fits a Bowden tube. Seems like they fixed the issue you mentioned!

    I got mine today and its given me great results already on some sunlu white silk filament.
    I'm going to use a piece of PTFE tube to protect the upper outlet hole from wear.

    I agree with your comment about the location of the LCD panel. I was hoping to see a before drying/after drying print test. I'm surprised they don't have pneumatic connections on the dryer to prevent [moist] air from coming in.

    Warm filament might cause problems. I had my printer in a workshop that got very warm (~35c), that combined with the extruder motor heat deformed PLA in the feeder gears causing jams. Cooling the extruder motor helped.

    Seems to me that this should measure humidity as well as temperature, without knowing the humidity you have no idea how dry or wet the filament is.
    Also once the z-axis gets very high it would either break the filament or rub until it starts snagging in the worn spot that will happen.

      If it switches between humidity and temp that would be nice, but really temperature is the most important factor. Air humidity is different than water absorption.
      What ever molecule in the mixture has the lowest gasification temp will leave first. So heating the filament causes the easier to agitate water molecules to leave the more durable filament composition. Same effect as warming up a carbonated drink. Carbon dioxide has a really low boiling point, so as you heat up the water the carbon dioxide leaves first. Since the water then becomes gaseous the air inside the unit will actually become more humid, but the spool will become less absorptive of the water.
      This is actually a simple solution to the real problem. We arent mad that water is getting into the plastic. We get mad that the water escapes the filament inside the extruder while its printing. This causes two issues. The rapid evaporation causes temperature fluctuations as the exiting water steals the heat. Secondly the water could extrude between your layers causing poor adhesion.
      Once we are done printing we can care less about humidity.

    Regarding your mention of the opening for the filament, my two units that I'd ordered at the same time both came with Teflon tube and each also came with 4 more in a small clear bag.
    BTW, what are you making in this video? It looks cool!

  • @AndrewAHayes

    Does it come with extra bungs so you can dry filament without printing with it and have both holes sealed?
    If not I would print some from a flexy filament and also some grommets with a hole large enough for a piece of PTFE tubing so the polycarbonate lid does not get damaged during printing

    Do you think this drys the filament roll effectively as a whole, or just the outside strands while it un-winds? I wonder if you can run it once or twice then not need it on, or isn't that how it works? I am having problems with PLA moisture recently.

  • @Null--
    @Null-- 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It seems like if there is moisture in the filament, that would need to be vented somewhere, or it would condense on the top of the clear plastic lid?

  • @ImaginationToForm

    Yes a hole in the back would be nice. I have a Polybox and I 3D Printed an adapter to hold a PTFE coupler in the Polybox holes and PTFE tubing to help guide the filament to the printer.

    You should make a video update talking about the issues with the kickstarter, this is now on the market .. amazon, aliexp, and other sites . While the backers get ignored and have not received the filadryer .. If You are part of the backers, then you can see the comments on the kickstarter + the updates on SUNLU mistakes .. and how they are not taking responsibility.

    Do you think it is safe to fill the bottom with desiccant? I have one of these and run it once a week or so, but wondering if there would be a benefit to having some desiccant inside to maintain the low humidity level between power cycles.

    • @1koenner
      @1koenner 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SG-sj6cw I didn't, but I believe that the chamber would need to be sealed considerably tighter than it is, for the desiccant to maintain a significantly lower RH value than the surrounding environment.

    I find it too expensive for the function as a conventional air dryer + heater is only 20$ more.
    I know it costs about 20-30$ to make a bigger dryer box. That fits 3-5 spools.

    makers muse made a video using a ~6 year old filament still printing like new.. not sure these are really that needed. At worst throw your material in the over on very low for a couple hours and save the money. Personally I keep mine material in a plastic container with a cup of rice to absorb any moisture.

    • @LimabeanStudios

      Different materials handle moisture differently. Nylon for example sucks up moisture.

    Here is my concern, this is going to add another point of failure for any printer, and any print. And you definitely shouldn't be using this when you're away. Another fire hazard that could potentially cause a printer, or itself to go up in flames.

    this thing is garbage, don't buy it, does not get hot enough. Display shows 55C, yet if you put a thermostat inside actual temp is about 45C, problem with this is that the it reads from under the heat element so gives a false reading.

    Bro I have been 3d printing for YEARS. ALL my Filimant sits out open to the air.. ALL of it. I never have issues.. ever. It gets VERY humid here. This whole "drying" part of 3d printing is a complete scam.
