    I wanted sub-18 this past weekend and managed 17:34! Thanks for the tips. I like to set my watch face to only show 'lap time' so I'm always aware of my mile/km pace. Also, it's so key to have the confidence to not go out too fast and know that you'll start reeling them in around the halfway point. There's no better feeling than picking people off one-by-one during the last mile and finishing strong.

    It's refreshing to find a channel that encourages the harder workouts and the faster speeds. I wouldn't say I enjoyed the speed sessions but they definitely help.

    Watched this a bit back. Goal for my season PR was 17:30, but was only at 18:57 before the season started. Just today I raced and jumped from 18:27 to 17:28!! Don’t ask me how that’s possible, but I feel absolutely amazing :D

    I have a 5k race today, and I recently ran a 19:09 5k last Saturday, so I'm aiming for sub 19 today, and then once I do that I'll be on track for sub 18. It's going to be difficult because it's hot out and there is pretty steep hills I'll have to go over, but I think I can break 19 today. I'm really excited to see how the race goes and I feel pretty good, so wish me luck! I'll let you know how the race goes.

    Im a freshman in high school and my PR is 18:20, and I ran that about 5 months ago towards the end of cross season. I havent ran that many 5ks since, because I was focused on the mile in winter season. My first mile I went out way to fast and it came out as a 5:30 first split, which I feel like killed my run, despite being a good PR for me, I feel like I can run faster. Ive been running track since and I have a 5k race next weekend, and I hope to at least be in the low 18s and maybe even break 18. Any advice on other things like diet?

    • @rundreamachieve
      @rundreamachieve  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, far too fast the first mile but this also proves you can run well below 18 minutes. You just need to relax a bit more in that first mile and close harder which you will. Carbo load the entire week leading into your 5k and get good sleep. You are going to destroy the sub 18 minute barrier

    My PR was 20:19 last November. Used to do 1 tempo, 1 speed workout. Then introduced long runs during the winter. After seeing your videos, I started doing 2 speed sessions. I don’t use the track, so I just run 8x400m repeats on the road and jog back at 5:45 pace. I just PR last week at 19:03. Winters coming, and it’s supposed to be a good winter this year. I’m not sure how it will impact my schedule. Maybe I do 4-6x800m repeats on the treadmill?

    I am a masters runner. I was a recreational runner until this year when I realized I can actually run and sprint fast for my age. What I am wondering is whether jogging those easy kms at 5:00-6:00 min/km is detrimental. When I actually run and ease into that good technique, my pace is going to cross the 4:00 min/km threshold and settle in close to 3:00 min/km if I do not mind my hr. I am unsure how long I can run at that pace, but based on the world record for my age group, it seems like I should focus on extending 4:00 min/km out to the full 5 km. Am I wasting my time jogging when I can get the mitochondrial and capillary adaptations literally just swinging a 16 kg kettlebell for 30 min, but without the fatigue hit on my legs and without teaching myself to run slowly? I guess what I am asking specifically is: could I just focus on threshold, economy, and speed phases for middle distances, add in some sprint training, and get endurance (base) via cross-training? I am in a weird place where I can suddenly run and sprint pretty fast but have no idea how to proceed from here. My max sprint speed seems to be close to 40 km/hr but I can only hold it for about 60 meters. I think I can hold 3:00 min/km for about five minutes right now but have done very little to increase anaerobic threshold via running (I think these adaptations came from kettlebell sport and Olympic weightlifting).

    • @rundreamachieve
      @rundreamachieve  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you're on the right path to reaching your goals and congrats on your running success thus far. Yes, strength work is important but nothing can take the place of fast, anaerobic training. You'll recruit more fast twitch muscle fibers which will, in turn, improve your lactate tolerance and lessen the stress that race pace would normally place on you. Of course, you can always give it a shot and try strength work for 30 minutes in the place of one of your track and/or road workouts and see what type of rests you get. Remember, threshold/economy/speed will cause a ton of inflammation and stress on your body, so make sure to JOG on those easy days. Hard days should test your physical/mental limits, thats why those rest days are to be enjoyed and should be mandatory. Hope this helps and continued success to with your training.racing.
