  • OC - Lakewood - 357 Squankam Rd.
At about 4:30 AM Lakewood Police department toned on a request for Engine 5 for a possible structure fire with heavy smoke in the area of 357 Squankam Rd. Police arrived shortly after and confirmed they saw flames from the second story. Engine 5 dumped a supply line down Squankam and started an interior attack of the fire trying to gain access to parts of the building. After seeing the main body of the fire Engine 5 called for a 2nd Alarm. The first ladder truck on the scene was ladder 5 of Lakewood. Cheif 1 then assumed command from Engine 5. The fire was then taken over the whole building and Cheif one requested more ladders and for engine 5 to get out and spray with the deck gun. They then went defensive for the remaining of the fire knockdown. After around 30 mins of fighting this fire, they seemed to finally have it under control with 3 ladders operating and multiple handlines. The fire was placed under control about an hour after that and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The Ocean County Fire Marshalls office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
    No injuries were reported.
    Lakewood Town Wide Response.
    Jackson Station 55 for RIT.
Point Boro Station 75 for the FAST.
Toms River Pleasant Plains to the scene with one engine and ladder.
Brick Town Station 22 to the scene with one engine.
Brick Town Station 24 to cover Station 68.
Point Beach Station 42 & 43 to cover Lakewood Stations.

I was thinking the same thing. No occupation has as many Monday Morning Quarterbacks, as firefighting. The perfect fire department doesn't exist. ALL departments have room for improvement. It does bother me that so many states make low demands on firefighter's required training. And although many departments require their volunteers to be Firefight I or Firefighter I and II, many states do not require volunteers to have ANY training. They (states) often leave it up to individual departments to decide what training to give their members. Dangerous at best! There are a lot of past and present firefighters on here, but for those whose experience in firefighting is only through watching videos, crawl into a fully involved, zero-visibility structure, where rescue is needed, and you'll find out REAL quick that things can go wrong in a split second!!

I appreciate my firefighters and I would hope that they might be a lot more concerned with getting water on the fire before it is totally beyond hope. Arson in lieu of making mortgage payments might have been involved here due to the accelerants that appear to have been used on the 2nd story.

@@degrom542 Yes sir, and my point wasn’t so much the distant to hydrants or sprinkler systems as much as it was to paint the bigger picture of how watching something like this unfold on a video and critiquing those involved is nothing compared to being on scene. All the unknown variables, amount of complications, obstacles, fire conditions, combustibles inside the structure etc. etc. that the camera doesn’t show. Unless it’s just sheer negligence, lack of training, not knowing your job and executing, inability to problem solve and those elements are blatantly obvious, I just try to refrain from blaming the crews on scene from the comfort of my computer chair. Well we left the fire service 20 years ago. We were asked to come back and help our fire company who was struggling with everything. Never in my life did I witness pure stupidity, lying, cheating and total disrespect. They chased all the good firemen away. First night back I said to them there is something wrong with your pumper tanker. No there's not they said. I said the trruck is not sitting in it chassis right. Oh they laughed at me. They put different size tires on the truck. 3/4 of the pump panel didn't work. So I went home and told my husband who was chief and chief engineer for years before.. We had the other township ompanies respect. These guys are known as the bozo squad. My hubby said the same thing I did there's something wrong with that truck. So we brought in a guy who specializes in repairing trucks. Hec said the original filters were on the truck. A 35 year old truck. The truck got sent to a body specialist. The guy said this truck should be junked. It was literally falling off its frame. It could have the wheels fall off to. The suspension was also bad. $30,000 later the truck was safe to use again. The pump issues were fixed at a cost of #12,000. New brakes all around to.. They didn't know how the truck stopped. The engine was just as bad but that had to wait because they were near broke. My hubby and i tried to run hall rentals to make money. Our only fund raiser. We had alot on Puerto Ricans rent the hall. They harassed them because of their race. Chief said the only good Pa is abdead one. They are racist bigots. We left after 2 years. They are purchasing a $800.000 pumper tanker. No income but what the township gives them. They said we are not doing fundraiser let the township residents taxes go up. They once sank the PT, we ent to calls drunk , were on the scene without gear on. One of them b tried to run me ov r r in b the firehall lot. If a girl wouldn't have grabbed me and pulled me out of the way he would have hit me. I was cursed at b there as tened etc. They think thry now it all but dont now squat. Thry are dangerous. They have a 500lb fireman. Um no I tried to get him to stop running calls until he got in better shape. They are all super fat and out of shzpe. Any call I was at with them they all had to go to the rehab tent. One 30 year old fireman was dating a 16 year old junior member. Um nope no way. But b daddy deares who is a scum bag let him date her. That's the reality of these pigs. We left after 2 years. I wasn't losing everything we worked for because of those guys stupidity. So yeah someone needs to wake up. Tge reality of it is some
      fire companies are untrained idiots.

@@mark7bearcat766 They can't do both? Deck gun puts out a heck of a lot more water than a hand line. Deck gun shooting over the fire and roof does no good

I've watched literally dozens and dozens of these video's and no matter where the fire or fire department fighting them, all I see in the comment section are a lot of negatives. They should've done this, why are they doing that, this is a waste etc. etc. Anyone have a TH-cam link to a video of a perfectly fought fire, I would love to see it where the Monday morning quarterbackers are silent?
P.S. - Let's face it, with that fire already ripping when they arrived, was any fire department in the world going to save that building?

Why does it tke so long to deliver water once the cannon is up?

    • @pantherzone2008
      @pantherzone2008 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Because the hose connection is long, it takes a long time to get water into the cannon. That is normal. The average time for the cannon to get the water is 5 1/2 minutes. That is why it takes so long to get it out of the cannon.
