On time I took my sister with me to a farm that I buy potatoes from she insisted she only wanted washed potatoes.
She argued that the four 50 bags of unwashed potatoes I bought actually had less potatoes than her clean ones.
The farmer tried pointing out that the dirty ones last longer and he adds a pound to the dirty bags to over compensate for the dirt, so the ones I bought were the best buy for long term storage.
Later this in the winter she complained because she had so many potatoes rotting.
SIGH, you just can't please some people
I would be the one asking for unwashed potatoes. We raise lots of potatoes in our garden and I never wash until ready to use.

your animals live the best life a farm animal can. they always have full bellies a warm bed and a protective barrier from predators, and are treated with respect, chickens are food at the end of the day,,, your animals have 1 bad day their entire lives,, that is a pretty darn good deal.
I remember feeding whole cobs into that thing with my grandpa back in 78 or so.

I never knew cattle liked potatoes. I used to rake up windfall apples and feed to the cattle. I know they loved them.

Edible acres uses older hens to help create compost for there nursery. They have a very specific process of using hens to kick compost around. The hens get lots of good nutrients and lead a happy retirement life.

Yeah, not pleasant to talk about but lots of people love those chicken sandwiches and nuggets.
On another note, I bought three russet potatoes for Christmas dinner and put them on a table in the kitchen. They were apparently too close to my plant grow light because they turned green and started to sprout!
It's a business, you do what works for you.

We sell our chickens at the 2 year mark as well. It’s just part of farming. Although I do have a few “favorite” hens that have been kept back and will live their life out in the pasture. I feel so bad for your sweet wife! Hang in there dear, just keep take it one day at a time. I was terribly sick and in pain with every pregnancy, so I sympathize with you!
Oh myyy this video took me back to the late 90s, as a side job while in secondary school I used to catch chickens in this big chicken farm (in Portugal, live in London now). We'd do it at night in near darkness as they wont move, 2 to 3 in each hand at the time, we'd fill at least 2 trucks a night...

Funny you mentioning potato soup. I was just telling my husband the other day about my Mom making potato soup. We grew up poor and it was really cheap to boil up potatoes and onions for soup. Boy it was good, too. Think I'll make some tomorrow!!

Here in Poland, if we buy them from the farmer's market - the potatoes are dirty! It's not a big deal. We have running water in our kitchens.

Loved the smell of a fresh batch of feed. We ground our own corn for the dairy. That was back in 1970's. Had four different batches we did. Chickens, young cattle, milking cows, and one for the calves still on milk. Brings back some awesome memories.

Nice to know that the two year mark is when you change the chickens out. Didn’t know that was the cycle for the most productive egg laying. Guess you get babies now. Must cost something to raise them to the egg laying stage. Less than keeping the older hens, I guess.

Andrew doesn't evidently believe in God he never mentions him and if you talk about the Lord and say God Bless you or anything about the Lord he wont answer you. I've asked him several times were he stands on the subject and all I get back is crickets lol. You can only pray that they know the Lord but from what I see none of the family does. It's a shame that if they don't give their lives unto the Lord that they will go to hell no matter how good they are.

Just as he told Joseph to take Mary and baby Jesus to Egypt so they would not be harm. When we bless someone it to be done out of Love not to get a reaction. Even a slow time on the farm still sees many activities that need done. So glad the fill and rocks in the cow are is working, looks so much safer!! 🐄🐂 I’m surprised your customers dont buy all the chickens you want to sell. I’d like to buy 10 for egg laying and 10 for bone broth. It would save the work of transport and stress on the bird. I love sinner at the farm house! Feel better….soon, Lauren, soon❤❤❤love
