I did not expect Gong Yoo the recruiter to be this scary psychopath! It was terrified that time! Just came to see what you guys thought of it, it was really intense.
In hindsight the bread and lottery game made sense. The recruiter is coping with himself and what he's done (to innocents including his father). He knows he's a dog, but he justifies to himself how the people he recruits and kills are scum. Why? Because they caused their situations themselves. Theyre all gamblers. The main character was a gambler in season 1. They all gambled themselves to rock bottom, but even at rock bottom, they continue to gamble (choosing the lottery over bread). This is his way of justifying to himself that these people are worthless and continue to ruin their lives, that they cannot be helped and that his recruitment is not just evil, but a mercy even. That is why he flips as well when trampling the bread. He hopes to be proven wrong but is frustrated by what he perceives to be proof of how they are all scum. He hates himself deep inside and when he is confronted with it his soul is exposed. It is why he was reckless and in the end, willing to die.
I would also like to believe that the recruiter was subjected to his father's abuse given their status at the time. Rather than taking accountability for his actions, the father vent his frustrations on him. The folks in charge of the Squid Game gave him a chance to work and earn.
If he broke the rules during Russian roulette, it would confirm in his mind that the game didn't kill his dad, he did. The game and the rules keep him believing these people deserve what happens to them.
Gong Yoo ( who played ddakji w ppl) honestly, i didn't expect craziness in his acting. Also, i highly recommend his other work,' Goblin' genre fantasy, etc
The music that Gong Yoo’s character plays during the “games” may be meaningful. The first piece is Nessun Dorma (“no one sleeps”), an aria from Turandot, an opera by Puccini. It is sung primarily by Prince Calaf (the male lead), on the night before a fateful decision. Princess Turandot must guess his name, by morning. If she is correct, he will be executed. The aria was made famous by various tenors, especially Pavarotti, who played the role of Calaf. The second song, Con Te Partiro, although operatic in style, is relatively modern and was first sung by Andrea Bocelli in the mid-1990’s. The version featured here, “Time to Say Goodbye” is the English translation sung by Sarah Brightman a few years later (It keeps some of the Italian lyrics, including the chorus).
Agreed. As soon as "Time to say Goodbye" starting playing at the end, I said to my partner "this song is perfect for this scene" You're right, the song selections are quite revealing and significant for the character. So much attention to detail in this series.
I really love the slight change in vibes this season. I was worried they'd try way too hard to stick to the formula of the first season and accidentally ruin it like so many shows do. Evolving like this was definitely the way to go!
I liked how subtly cruel/rude it was for the Squid Game Salesman to stand over the first homeless man on the bench, and just not block the sun for him, so he kept having to squint to see the Salesman. Most people would've noticed and instinctively moved to block the sun/accommodate them out of politeness.
26:04 well the actor is Gong-Yoo! His become even more famous. if he’s coming back for an episode they made it worth the time and money. Also making an interesting story instead of just a quick cameo.
In the English version the Recruiter said ,,I worked there since I was younger ,, in the German version he says translatet ,,i worked there since I was a little boy ,, and that makes it even more cruel and disgusting that he killed his own father
As someone who's fluent in Korean, he did not say he worked there since he was a little boy. Whoever translated that into German must've been high. lol
All of the masked people that have been revealed are young, the one that the player forced to take off his mask in season 1, the organ harvesters in season 1 and all of the revealed pink dudes we see this season are all young. It seems that the older ones become higher ups, or perhaps they are the ones in the control room, leaving the "dirty work" to the young ones
@@omgitsbamboozle7393 As a Korean, I played this game a lot when I was child. You'll know if you do it yourself, but when you're nervous, you accidentally use the same thing more than you think. 😂
Ooooff just finished binging the season and holy shit it was amazing and this episode was amazing. The Rusian roulette with the two guys is probably my favourite scene in the season.
I'm 3 episodes in and I'm in shock with many things. Episode 3 is a very surprising reveal that I did not see it coming at all. When you get there you'll definitely be shocked😂 And as for gong yoo. My god is he a great actor. People will know from train to Busan or goblin but he is a phenomenal actor. I didn't expect the recruiter to be mentally unstable either. Cause my god was he unstable.
I just finished ep1, and your my first reaction review! The recruiter was completely "mind blowing" who knew??..pun intended...lol. OK, gotta watch your reaction😅.
Gihun lives in the motel and the cop transferred to another district. They have no contact of each other even if they wanted to. Im sure Gihun tried to find the cop within the 2 years. But remember he was in a coma
If you think gong yoo is amazing here (as a psychopath ) you should watch gi hoon (lee jae jung) in Deliver us from evil . Korean actors are the best in the game nowadays. Actually, they've always been this good.
The recruiter is looking for lucky people. It's not enough that he is looking for people who take chances they have to be lucky too. Hence the bread and lottery choice plus the luck. He said Gi-Hun was lucky that he won the game. But the recruiter himself is not lucky or his father. Also that's why he loses Russian roulette. Even before that he tried to shoot Gi-Hun but still did not work. Gi-Hun is the lucky one. Also if Gi-Hun did not play by the rules he would get the key but would not get invited to it.
19:40 i think the callouses on his hand are significant. it’s indicative of blue collar labor, which contrasts his suit and white collar appearance-indicative of higher class status and power. this information comes full circle at the end of this episode when he reveals that he and his father were a part of the games earlier in his life. players are comprised of people experiencing debt a/o poverty. the game is where he got his start. a laborer for the top dogs is all he really is. the suit he wears is his reward, and all that really is is an illusion of power.
1:50 No he doesnt, he gave the money to sangwoo's mother and sae byeok's brother.. Shoutout to Greg and John for watching it in its original language! The English dub is soo bad but I understand that people don’t want to read so it’s okay 😅
It was obvious not solely because he's the main character. It's because Young-Il planned it that way. I guess that's why he saved his bud in the first place even killing a man for it. Then voting for X to not only show he's still on their side, but to also prevent suspicions to him after he killed that man. He was setting that up.
I was mainly shocked because of Gong Yoo’s character actually dying lmao. But the shock came before it actually happened, because I knew it was the only way the episode could end.

Im actually very interested to see how squid games season 2 does since season 1 has the world in a choke hold when it came out. But its been so years and people tend to move on fast so i wonder if this will still capture people's attention or if it will be like a flash in the pan oh that show was big once but people moved on
Yeah I just notice the hype is not too much
Ayo that scene reminded me of 187 all over again 😮
Pretty early i hope this season will have a very good ending
nope
올~ 한국어자막!
Finally 🔥
I just finished watching season 2. They better hurry up with the last season because what was that 💩 of ending? This season was more macabre than the previous one. I ended feeling anxious and disturbed.
