Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 29 lashed out at Congress MLAs who wore black attire to the State Assembly house. Congress MLAs protested against the disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from the Parliament and demanded to conduct JPC probe into the Adani matter. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that Congress doing street protests and not seeking any legal remedy against the court’s order is harmful to the country’s democracy. “Tomorrow, if any Court convicts me in something, will BJP MLAs wear black clothes and demonstrate? No. We will go to High Court, Supreme Court, and Sessions Court but we will never defy the judiciary. This trend is not good for Indian democracy...,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said. Earlier, on March 27, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hit out at the Centre over the Adani issue and Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as Lok Sabha MP. He also asserted that the Opposition leaders are wearing black attire to show that democracy is being destroyed in the country.
