    Macky, many of us appreciate when you walk a hill acting like you couldn't ride it. We all know you can but you like to empathize with viewers who never could ride those hills. Thank you

    Alex is super fun to ride with and is all round an awesome guy!
    If you're curious, the slick rock in Los Alamos isn't actually sandstone, it's a volcanic rock called tuff which formed from the superheated ash fallout of the massive explosive volcanic eruption that formed the Valles Caldera.

    • @sydandmacky
      @sydandmacky  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really? That's crazy!

      @@sydandmacky Yep! The geology around Los Alamos is really cool. 1.25 million years ago, the eruption that created the Caldera ejected 70 cubic miles of material out of the volcano and into the atmosphere in an eruption column that likely reached at least 50,000ft into the atmosphere if not more, and when that eruption column collapsed, it caused flows of superheated gases, ash, and rock to cascade over the landscape and then weld in place creating the bandelier tuff, the rock the mesas and canyons around Los Alamos and Abiqiu are made of.

    Funny thing of 2020 is that on March I was so fed up that i did a 9 hour 100kilometer (68-ish miles) ride that left me like a rag doll. I also changed and now like epic rides. Ive set a goal of being able to ride 100 miles, and I do a 100 + kilometer ride every month. There is something really nice about these super long rides. Now if I ride less than 50 kilometers (30 miles) I feel it is short. Interesting year, indeed. Thank you for the continuous inspiration.

    Man, I used to live in LA growing up, but wasn't into MTB as much as BMX, but now that I'm back in the SW, I want to get back up there and do some of these rides!!
    I think I actually got to build some of those trails after the big fire in 2001. My first "real" job as a teenager!

    Stupid challenges are what makes life fun. All of my local endurance races have been cancelled (like everyone else's) and I've been re-creating them solo with no aid stations or support. Your own challenges are the best challenges. Did 51 trail miles this past Sunday to re-create a 50 mile race that was cancelled, doing "as many as I can" in 6 hours next Sunday to recreate a cancelled 6 hour race put on by my local race promoter. I'm glad you're finding your own fun. This is a great opportunity for it.

    Yay, off to a good start on non-tech-perimeter. One of my favorites. It can get really busy, often there are some hikers that don't notice the MTBers until too late (I use a timberbell and sometime they miss it as well). I think it's hard to show how steep 3 bears is on camera. Talk about a lung-buster... Last time I was up there, I missed the turn for Cabra and came down pajarito. Oops. There's enough trails around that you can't get tooo lost. :)
    Psst. It's not sandstone, it's tuff ;) One of my favorite riding surfaces. It's a volcanic ash that's lithified into solid rock.

    Macky, what a great video to give a sense of LA's trail system! Regarding your comment about the sense of the name Canon de Valle, I believe (and am wiling to stand corrected) that it's the canyon used during the homesteader/sheepherder days of Los Alamos to access the Valles Caldera, and as you saw on your ride, when you top out and were to continue down the other side of that saddle, you'd end up in the caldera. Well done on the ride! At this point, I'd need an ebike to get all that done in a day. And good to see Alex; he's a great guy and a fine yet humble rider.

    so it's not because someone saw three bears while riding it once...in a similar way we once called a local trail 2 trees as it had 2 trees at the bottom ready to catch you out if you didn't break in time or couldn't absorb the slight bump that would launch you over the walkers path massively reducing the braking distance available...gotcha

    Hi Macky! Amazing ride and looks quality trails!
    What SC ride Alex?
    And about Vittoria Enduro what will be best combo? New Mazza f/r, Martellos? mazza/Agarro?
    Rear will like some good rolling
    TNT tread will be enough for enduro (i dont looking like dh casing)
    Thx

    I'd love to watch the whole video , but the POV camera angle without a gimble makes me get motion sickness after only 5 minutes of riding action . I don't feel ill when a Gimble is used so I can only assume that the gimble is key . BKXC's videos and BCpov's videos I can watch right through and they both use a gimble .

    • @arnik100
      @arnik100 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They address this a lot. Here's one of their responses from a previous video (note that the person they responded to wasn't super polite):
      "No, we don't use gimbals when riding and are never going to. Gimbals make sense if you aren't racing or riding super aggressively and if you don't mind constantly fussing with them, but we do race and ride seriously so they don't make sense for us. If you don't like the vlog-style handheld camera, this isn't a good channel for you, which is totally fine."
