As i remember a common problem for jumping out of gear could be a worn selector fork,caused by the driver resting their hand on the gear lever,i would also check the hub for wear and all associated weak springs.
yes, a few people had told me the same, but we believe the issue was a failed spiggot bearing that in turn destroyed the input bearing which the allowed the input shaft to move forcing the car to drop out of 4th gear. Hopefully the rebuild and new components will now cure it. fingers crossed. Thank you for your advice.

Can I fix any Japan car gearbox for Morris MINIOR?
I believe there you can fit a Toyota box but not sure of the model number. Its quite a modification though.
